President Jammeh Fires Prison Boss David Colley!
As we told you the other day, dictator Yahya Jammeh arrived in Banjul as an angry man. Jammeh’s first casualty is Prisons Director David Colley. Mr. Colley, said he received a letter on Friday informing him that his services with the prison system has been terminated with immediate effect, a source close to the Prison boss said.
Mr. Colley is likely to be replaced by one Major Ismaila Colley, of the Gambia armed forces, our source hinted. Five other senior prison officers are also to join Colley to look for a new job. The President is upset with Colley’s handling of the prison.
Mr. David Colley has been fired and rehired on numerous occasions. He was briefly jailed following allegations of diverting a generator that was meant for the Mile Two Prison.
Mr. Colley on Friday told his colleagues that he was leaving since the head of state has decided to terminate his services. He is also concerned about his fate, including other officers working under his command. No one here knows what will visit Colley in days to come.
There are reports of financial embezzlement at the Prison Services. Mr. Colley will go down for life by the time our angry dictator is done with him. Sources close to the Jammeh State House also talked about how Jammeh is determined to deal with Colley and co.
In another development, some state house kitchen staffers have been detained in connection with the food poisoning story involving the Jammeh family. The exact location where the state house catering staffers have been held is unknown at this hour.
