Gambia: Breaking News: CDS Massaneh Kinteh’s NDEA Agent Brother Dismissed!
CDS Massaneh Kinteh’s NDEA Agent Brother Dismissed!

There is a lot of backstabbing at the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA).  We will tell you why in a minute.  Batch Kinteh, an NDEA agent, who is also a brother to the current Chief of Defense Staff Massaneh Kinteh has been sacked with effect from this past Friday. Batch’s dismissal has do with missing mobile phones belonging to an inmate he was escorting to Banjul for further processing, we learnt.

Mr. Kinteh left his charge office in Serre-Kunda, where he was ordered to escort the drug suspect to Banjul with a case file. On arrival in Banjul, Batch said he couldn’t find the two mobile phones entrusted to him, our source said.  Although, he admitted receiving the mobile phones at the NDEA Serre-Kunda Charge office but couldn’t account for it.

When Batch’s case reached the attention of the NDEA operations Director Mbye Njie,  his reaction was that Batch must be fired with immediate effect. Mr. Njie  thought that this was an opportune moment for him to get rid of Massaneh Kinteh’s biological brother.  He concluded that Batch must be shown the exit door. And it happens.

The suspect, who was escorted by Batch was later released by Mr. Njie.  The NDEA command thinks that the best way to satisfy Kinteh’s accuser is to sacrifice their own comrade.  Batch paid a heavy price for not been able to account for the missing mobile phones.

For those of you who doesn’t know Mr. Mbye Njie, he is from Medina Serrignmass. He came from the same village with the Secretary General Njogu Bah. In fact, he is using his closeness to Njogu to intimidate, harass, and in some occasions insult his superiors and colleagues at the NDEA.  He is widely feared by his colleagues.

There was this day that Ben Jammeh, Foday Barry, Pa Habibou Mbye, and other NDEA officials convened a meeting in their offices, and in attendance  was Mbye Njie himself.  The meeting centered on: work ethics, discouraging officers from receiving bribes, and how to censor NDEA internal secrets being leaked to the US based Freedom Newspaper. The NDEA command is of the view that there are certain “elements” within their midst supplying information to the Freedom Newspaper.  And that was one of the reasons security has been beefed up around their offices.  One must get security clearance before he, or she is allowed to visit their office.

When Foday Barry, Ben and others started raising concern about official corruption at the NDEA meeting, Mbye Njie became belligerent.  Mr. Njie went wild after he was confronted about a cannabis case in which he allegedly received D15,000 dalasi before setting the accused person free.  He retorted by telling Foday, Ben and co to shut up before he will expose them to the relevant authorities.

Mr. Njie even  went on to remind Ben, and co  about the case of  two Nigerians: Ekema Fona, alias IK, and one Pastor whom he accused his colleagues of receiving D100,000 dalasi from the suspects before setting them free.  Pa Habibou Mbye,  was said to have facilitated the release of the accused Nigerian drug suspects.

The meeting was disrupted thanks to Mbye Njie’s weird conduct.  He insulted Ben and co and yet he get away with his arrogance. He thinks that he is untouchable since his friend Njogu Bah is the SG.

It would be recalled that Mr. Njie’s family in Barra were arrested sometime ago in connection with a cannabis case. His in law was caught with drugs but that case has been settled.  Do not  ask me how, and why the case was settled.  Ask our rude boy NDEA Operations boss Mbye Njie, he will tell you something about the Barra cannabis case.

A senior NDEA agent who spoke to us describes Batch Kinteh as a disciplined and hardworking officer.

“ The missing mobile phones doesn’t constitute an immediate sacking. They could have reached a payment plan with Batch to settle the case, but firing him like that is totally unfair. Here is a guy,  who is always willing to show up at work when needed for operations.  He has been  honest enough to confess that he received the mobile phones.  There have been occasions our men messed up and they were not sacked.  I think Mbye Njie has an hidden agenda against Batch.  The truth will come to light sooner or later,” said the NDEA official.

“ Mbye Njie has been bragging about his closeness to  SG Njogu Bah. He treats Ben, Foday, Pa Mbye and co with contempt. He has the audacity to insult us during one of our meetings when he was confronted about a case he received money. The President should look into the activities of the NDEA. There is no serious work taking place here.  The majority of us are working for ourselves and not the state. Corruption is at its peak at the NDEA.”
