JAMMEH WANTS SECURITY FORCES TO APPREHEND TRESPASSING RUSSIAN FISHERMEN!

By An Insider Banjul

Pa,

The story you have recently published regarding illegal fishing has caused some waves in Banjul !!!

The big man learned about the story - they are following the Freedom Newspaper closely in Banjul ! - and has taken positive steps towards making sure that everybody is in a state of alert and to stop this illegal fishing.

A source close to the corridors of power just called me and explained that Yahya has given orders to the Director of fisheries. First, he stated that the security personal will do all possible to catch the Russians and bring them before justice, the navy is under close watch of the president’s office now.

The NIA suspects that the Russians have a helping hand inside the country who inform them when the navy boats are out patrolling and this helping hand can very well be an insider at the navy - do not be surprised if heads will roll there.

Secondly, Yahya has given directive orders that The Gambia will under no circumstances issue fishing license to vessels which are larger than a certain gross tonnage. Yahya is aware of the fact that issuing license to vessels that are too big will destroy the natural habitat in the sea and that the consequences of that will be that there will be no fish for the youths in the future.

Fishing with these large trawlers of 100 meter + have spoiled the fish-stocks in many African countries like Mauritania, Senegal, Ghana, Sierra Leone eg eg eg and The Gambia is not ready to surrender it´s seafood wealth for free.

A positive step from Yahya or is he just irritated that he did not have a hand in this as it seems ? Time will tell !
