Twenty Dismissed NDEA Agents Reinstated; And Transferred To The Police!

The twenty National Drug Enforcement agents who were dismissed by Ben Jammeh back in 2010, on malicious grounds have been reinstated and transferred to the police, a senior NDEA officer tells the Freedom Newspaper on Wednesday.  The former sacked anti narcotic officers resumed duty yesterday. They have been assigned to the police force without any compensation for the illegal termination the officers suffered in the hands of Ben Jammeh’s misguided decision, said the official who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Also among the dismissed agents and now reinstated was Awa K Darboe, Narcotic Control Assistant one (NCA1). Ms. Darboe was posted in Basse. She is a native of Bansang. She is also the sister of Mama Sona Darboe, wife of the detained former NDEA Deputy Director Karomo Bojang, sources said.

Yaya Badjie, alias Koukoi, (NCA1) attached to the Talinding station, and one Edrissa Sanneh, brother of the former NDEA operations Director Ousman Sanneh were both dismissed.  Sergeant Bojang of the Brikama NDEA office was also sacked. Lamin Bojang, a nephew of former operations Director Ousman Sanneh, and one Pierre were both fired as well.

Chief Inspector  Samba Jawo, who was falsely accused by the NDEA PRO Abdoulie Ceesay and Kalilu Njie of dropping 'charms' known as juju at the NDEA main office has been reinstated. Mr. Jawo was arrested on bogus allegations and charged by the IGP. He is now back to work at the police, said our source.

According to our source, IGP Yankuba Sonko has formally approved the transfer of the dismissed NDEA officers after a thorough consultation with the relevant authorities.  The police chief had earlier refused to accept to admit the dismissed NDEA agents into the Force—citing budgetary constraints facing his unit.  He has shifted from his initial position.

The dismissed NDEA agents on Wednesday reported for work. They were assigned to different units within the Force, said our source. The NDEA insider noted that Mr. Mbye Njie, the agency’s operation’s Director and Kalilu Njie, Ben Jammeh’s Deputy recommended for the officers to be sacked without justifiable reasons.

“ Mbye Njie is a personal friend of  the Secretary General Njogu Bah and he said that he has been given the clearance to submit a list of NDEA agents that he Njie has in mind to be fired. The SG sided with him and the officers were dismissed without cause.  For Kalilu Njie, he too said that he cannot work with officers close to Bun Sanneh, Ousman Sanneh and co. That was one of the reasons why they submitted the list of officers to be let go to Ben. We have lost our best agents thanks to Ben, Kalilu and Mbye Njie. They always claimed to have the backing of the President and the SG to perpetrate their power abuses,” said our source.

A source close to the police command confirmed the reinstatement of the sacked NDEA agents. The source said he is happy that the President is coming back to his senses to order for the reinstatement of the officers.

“ I can tell you that Ben Jammeh will soon go. He has been lying to the big man all this while.  Ben and his team are working against the interest of state and Gambians,” said the police source.
