JAMMEH DISSOLVES ENTIRE CABINET WITHOUT MAKING NEW APPOINTMENTS!
..LEAVING POWER VACUUM
By Pa Nderrry M'Bai
After months of “time buying” Gambia’s leader Yahya Jammeh on Thursday formally dissolved his entire cabinet—but without any new appointments initiated to fill the power vacuum. The country is without a functional Government at this hour. The Kanilai born dictator merely dissolved cabinet without filling the vacant positions.
The erratic Gambian President thanked his former cabinet Ministers for their “patriotism and dedication” to duties. There was no mention as to when the new cabinet will be named.
A newscast announced on state radio and television services said the President acting on powers conferred on him by the nation’s “toilet paper” constitution which Jammeh treats as his personal property, has decided to dissolve cabinet with immediate effect.
All Ministerial positions, including the office of the Vice President has been declared vacant. The Head of State is expected to name his new cabinet soon, sources said. Although, Mr. Jammeh is facing the problem of recruiting competent Gambians to replace some of the Ministers that he lined up to be fired. Some of the elites approached by Jammeh’s emissaries have turned down his Ministerial position offers, our source said. They politely told Jammeh’s emissaries that they are busy with other job commitments to reject the job offers extended to them.
“ There wouldn’t be much changes in his new cabinet. Even if he does, he will bring in inexperienced folks to play around offices. He has fired and fired to a point that he has no one to appoint. It took him more two months since his re-election and this man couldn’t lineup a cabinet. Something is wrong somewhere,” said a senior official of the Jammeh Government who spoke to us on condition of anonymity.
“ I know for a fact that some people have received their appointment letters. They are waiting to be sworn in once Jammeh finalizes his selection and appointment process of Ministers. He has nothing to offer to this country. He is trying to assemble old wines in a new bottle. This man has proven to be incompetent to run this country. He has no clue about how to run a Government. It’s a big mistake for some of us to work for this man. We will be better of without working for Jammeh’s failed Government. That’s why some of our colleagues are leaving to work for the UN and other international organizations.”
Meanwhile, sources said the Vice President Isatou Njie is likely to be replaced by Jammeh. A prominent Gambian has been approached to consider fill the position of Vice President.
