Breaking News:Detained IEC officials released-Aziz Tamba says electoral officials should listen to him!!!
The three staffers of the Independent Electoral Commission,Amie
Jarju,Modou Jaw and Bamba Drammeh, who were arrested and detained by
the NIA, following a row at the Sinchu voter registration allegedly
caused by Aziz Tamba, a close relative of Gambia's President Yahya
Jammeh, has been released on Wednesday, the Freedom Newspaper can
authoritatively report.

The three who were held since on
Monday were released without any charges brought against them. It is
not yet clear if they were still on the payroll of the IEC, but what is
clear is that the two were harassed by the NIA and Aziz Tamba. Tamba is
not an official of the Gambian government, but he openly threatened
public servants and opponents with sack and imprisonment.
The
whole problem started when Aziz Tamba brought in some non Gambians at
the Sinchu voter registration to be registered. His arrival coincided
with the IEC closing time, but Tamba insisted that th IEC local
staffers must extend the deadline set for the closing of registration.
A row later ensued between him and electoral clerks who refused to meet
his request for time extension for registration. Aziz was seen beating
his chest vowing that the IEC clerks will live to regret why they
refused to register the people he brought at Sinchu to be registered.
Shortly, before Tamba leaves the area, he told the clerks that they
will be arrested and sacked. He even vows that the IEC Chairman Ndoneh
Njie got to go, since his staffers were not cooperating with him to
register non Gambians.
The State House responded by firing
Chairman Ndoneh Njie and arresting three of the Commission's local
staff. Aziz Tamba was also accused of facilitating the registration of
non Gambians along the Gambia/Senegalese border. Widely feared by the
country's security forces, because of close ties with President Jammeh,
Aziz Tamba is said to be remote controlling the affairs of the IEC, the
Freedom Newspaper gathered. Sources hinted that the new IEC chairman
work hand in hand with Tamba. Even though Tamba is not a staffer of the
IEC, he is spotted at their offices day in day out. Local IEC staffers
said Tamba told them that he reports directly to the President and
whoever wants to keep his job must listen to him. The same
Aziz Tamba, was said to have undermined former NIA chief Abdoulie
Kujabi. Tamba was said to have lied against the Kujabi family to the
President who for some reasons is perceiving the Kujabis as his arch
enemy.Abdoulie Kujabi who is believed to be handicapped following
torture he suffered from the hands of state agents, is today
isolated by Jammeh.
