Bah takes issue with Jammeh-as he decry farmers plight

According to the former Upper Saloum Parliamentarian, there is no indication as of now to suggest that these farmers will get seed nuts this time around, as the government is yet to meet their farming needs. Bah, twice Presidential aspirant for the NRP party said most farmers can hardly afford three square meal a day. He lambasted the government for the current plight the Gambian farmers had found themselves.

He said this year's rainy season has commenced and yet the farmers had not been paid for their sold produce. Under a UDP/NRP government Bah went on,farmers can be rest assured of reasonable and acceptable ground price. He added that a UDP/NRP government will set up a groundnut price for the country's neglected farmers which will be inline with the world market price. Bah believes that the Gambian farming community had long been neglected since the advent of AFPRC/APRC regime. He said under their leadership farmers will be given the necessary encouragement and support they needed.

He said farmers are major stakeholders on Gambia's socio-economic development and don't deserve such a neglect.

The outspoken politician, who visited different states during his US visit also  picked on the Jammeh government for securing tractors from Taiwan for our farmers. Bah faulted the tractors project, arguing that the government should have secured local farming equipment, that will serve all and sundry, while stressing that the country's  traditional farming methods should be uphold. Bah said the money spent on the tractors could have been better channeled to the local farming equipment, which he says was still being used by  majority of the country's farming community. He warns that in as much as the government wants to promote modern farming, it should not abandon or neglect the already existing traditional methods.

http://www.reap-canada.com/images/international_38.gifBah believes that the UDP/NRP government would be more sensitive to the plight of Gambia's farming community, unlike the ruling APRC, who he blamed for neglecting the farmers. Bah said the miseries and nightmares the country's farmers are exposed to will come to past, once they take control of the State House. Bah promises better living conditions for farmers and their families when they are in power.

Commenting on the country's youth population, Bah maintains that Gambian youths are today more hopeless than ever before in the country's  history. The politician observed that frustration and hopelessness continues to grip the country's youths. According to Mr.Bah, a good number of Gambia's youths are unemployed and are faced with the usual nerves syndrome. As a result of this, he went on many youths took up the initiative to travel to Babylon by road to seek for greener pastures. In the process he added, many died on their way. He cited  some African immigrants including Gambians who died recently while trying to cross the Moroccan sea to Spain. Bah said most of these youths left their respective homes because of hopelessness.

Mr.Bah said a UDP/NRP government will never neglect Gambia's youths, as it obtains under the current Jammeh leadership. Bah said these youths need to be provided with jobs, better education and skill training. He said the country's youths had long been neglected. He adds that improving the lives of these frustrated youths was high on their agenda.

Commenting on investment and private sector led economy, Bah says the UDP/NRP alliance is committed to providing conducive environment for investors and the local private sector. He noted that the two are very important when it comes to governance and economic empowerment. He said for a country to attains its developmental goals, the private sector and investors must be given free hands to run their business. Mr.Bah said under a UDP/NRP government they will set up sound economic policies that will encourage investors to target the impoverished West African country. Bah says he  personally has been trying to woe a European company to invest in The Gambia. He maintains that a conducive business environment will go a long way in attracting investors into the country.

In our next edition, we will feature Bah's position on the opposition breakaway and the need for Gambians residing abroad to return home and invest when the opposition wins the coming polls. Stay tuned.
