BANJUL,THE GAMBIA: Baba Jobe, the jailed former majority leader of the National Assembly was yesterday taken to the high court of the Gambia by the Guaranty Trust Bank (Gambia) Ltd in connection with  an amount of D1.8million debts. During Mr. Jobe’s tenure as the Chief Executive Officer of Red Air, he managed  to secure a loan from the bank and now the bank wants him to pay the sum of D1, 877,835.00.

The case could not proceed as the judge Mrs. Izuako was out of the jurisdiction and there are possibilities that the case will be transferred to another judge. After the hearing of the case Mr. Jobe looking very strong and healthy was quickly returned to the mile II prison.

It could be recalled  that Baba Jobe used to be the closest person to President Jammeh. But strained relationship between the two developed in 2004, when he was accused of massive tax evasion and later arrested on his way from Jarra.

Jobe was charged  with economic crimes and tax evasion, Which led to his imprisonment in November 2004. Mr. Baba Jobe was sentenced to 9 years and 8 months in prison for 8 counts on economic crimes as alleged by the state, but many believed that his jailing was politically motivated.
