Editorial:Minister Yankuba Touray's US Medicare Fraud exposed Again!!!

Today, we reported about Minister Yankuba Touray's attempts to defraud the US medicare system. The disgraced Minister thinks that he can be sending his loved ones to come and deliver here without paying hospital bills. His action can be viewed as an economic crime. Since 1994 to date, Yankuba Touray has been sending his wife to deliver here. There is no problem with him sending  Mami here to deliver in the US, if he can foot the exorbitant hospital bills. But there is no evidence so far to suggest that Yankuba Touray is paying his wife's medical bills, besides the monies he secretly wired for Mami to enjoy while staying here. Touray should bear in mind that we as US tax payers cannot afford to be paying for his wife's unfinished medicare. They either pay for their hospital bills, or stop duping the system. There are hospitals in Banjul which can take good care of Mami Minteh. But Yanks said no, "I want my kids to be American citizens."  It is gathered that all his kids are now US subjects, thanks to their clandestine operations. This paper is pleased that it succeeded in exposing corrupt officials like Yankuba Touray. It's should be everybody's business to expose those bent on milking our ailing economy. Yanks Touray is one of those responsible for the current economic predicament our country found itself.

How long will the stealing of public funds end Yankuba Jali Maginokos Touray?

It is fact that Touray is trying to compete with his boss Yahya Jammeh, who at onetime brought First Lady Zeinab Suma Jammeh to deliver here. But Yanks should realize that by doing so he is causing more harm than good to our fragile economy. It makes no sense for Mami Minteh to deliver here when his own Ministry cannot pay farmers their hard earned monies. We are now in the rainy season time in The Gambia and yet farmers are still indebted. Yankuba Touray is closing his office doors at concern farmers who had difficulty in feeding their families. He is not willing to see them, not to talk of allaying their fears about the collapsed agriculture industry. This is not the type of agriculture Minister Gambians farmers want in today's Gambia.

While Yanks and his family can afford three decent meal a day, some farmers in the Niaminas, Basse, Kudang,Fonnis and Baddibus are starving to death. Imagine Yankuba's wife hiring a Daycare centre to look after her son Muhammed? She paid  nothing less than $200 dollars per week for her kid to be taken care off. The same lady is busy working earning a leaving while our dying farmers are working  on the hot sun being paid. This is unfair.

The likes of Yankuba Touray could be squarely blamed for Jammeh's insecurity. They are doing things which could cost Jammeh politically. There is no way that these farmers can vote for Jammeh under such a hostile and uncertain political climate.Minister Touray is working to enrich himself and not for the state. A concerned Minister would have asked his wife to stay and deliver in The Gambia and not deliver overseas. By now, we would have expected him to tell our farmers what is responsible for the delay on the purchase of their nuts and not to adopt the silence mood which he had taken in recent months. This is unacceptable to say the least. Some times, we tend to question the loyalty of these so called Di HEART APRC stalwarts. They do certain things that put will the party's image into total disrepute.

President Jammeh and his ruling APRC had this notion that it is only Yankuba Touray, who can bring votes for their party. But does it make sense to entertain criminals like Touray to the detriment of the APRC and the country. We are talking on the line of nationalism and patriotism. Keeping a criminal like Touray means endangering the future of the Gambia and that of the APRC. Touray is self centered, who hate to see the development of the Gambia.

President Jammeh ought to be very very careful these days. He is repeating the circumstances that led to Jawara's removal. We remember when Saihou Sabally was accused of corruption by veteran journalist Sanna Tix Manneh together with some other government functionaries. The matter ended in courts, but only for the accused persons facilitating for Sanna's departure from the country. They secretly offered him scholarship in a bid to silence him. The same Saihou Sabally was blamed for the cooperative failure and the defunct Gambia Commercial Bank. To add insult to injury, Jawara went ahead to name Sabally as Finance Minister.A year later, Sabally was  elevated to Vice Presidential portfolio. He served under such a portfolio up to the time of Jawara's down fall. Gambians and friends of the Gambia spoke against the increasing corruption under Jawara's watch, but the old man never heeded to public will for political reforms. He kept on playing politics of "Terrikafo" which ultimately led to his removal. Even though his removal was not justifiable, since the military boys came by means of force, to some extent Jawara was partly responsible for the Gambia's problem.

In as much as, President Jammeh hates the Freedom Newspaper and the private media, he should listen to voices of dissent. We loved our country and will not hesitate to speak out against corruption and injustice. It is unfair for President Jammeh to give special treatment to Yankuba Touray, Justice Minister Shiek Tijan Hydara and others who were indicted for official corruption and abuse of office by the Presidential commission headed by Justice Paul. Jammeh should either lead by example or officially legalize corruption in The Gambia. How can Jammeh convince us and serious donor partners that he is out to fight graft, when he is dinning with people red carded for corruption. The Freedom Newspaper will never cease talking. We cannot watch by allowing Jammeh to institutionalize corruption in The Gambia. It is a shame that the man who said he came to rescue Gambians from political decadence and rampant corruption had overtaken the PPP in terms of corruption. Jammeh's regime is worse than the PPP. The PPP government with all the odds associated with them, they respected the rights and liberties of Gambians. Jammeh should think twice and ask him self if the country is being run on the right way. Jammeh is more concerned about his security and not that of Gambians. He takes people he suspects of planning to coup him and not those engaged in economic crimes. Yankuba Touray's actions is treasonable considering the economic pains and suffering he esposes our farmers to. There is nothing more treasonable than what Touray had done to our farmers. To win public confidence on his already battered regime, Jammeh needs to let go Yankuba Touray and co.We will cover Mami's naming ceremony Wednesday. Stay tuned.
