Gambia Radio and television services has witnessed the arrest of the GRTS Finance Director Lamin Ceesay. Mr. Ceesay was arrested on Wednesday by Jammeh’s secret agents and held for sometime before he was granted bail. His father posted a bail on his behalf. Mr. Ceesay is now back home chilling with his family awaiting his fate in coming days. The GRTS shakeup has just hit the new stands. More heads are expected to roll in coming days.
Lamin Ceesay was brought to the GRTS by the erstwhile GRTS DG Momodou Sanyang, after he was sacked from the bankrupt transportation company GPTC. His boss Momodou Sanyang was retired recently due to ailing health conditions. Mr. Sanyang is battling with cancer, and has drastically lost weight.
The Kanilai dictator has asked his errand boy Malick Jones to step up and take-over from Sanyang. Malick has since changed his dressing style by trying win Jammeh’s confidence. He comes to work dressed in Muslim traditional outfit—emulating his crazy boss Yahya Jammeh. This was evident on Malick’s appearance during the budget speech held in Banjul. The GRTS clown has achieved his much anticipated dream of becoming the GRTS boss.
Malick Jones is working in tandem with the NIA and the police to help clean up the "mess perpetrated" at the Finance Department. Opinions are divided within GRTS. Some folks viewed Lamin Ceesay’s arrest as a “witch hunt” on the side Malick Jones to settle scores with the flamboyant Finance Director, while some insiders said Mr. Ceesay’s past reputation at the GPTC disqualifies him to work for any serious media institution.
The GRTS is faced with budgetary problems. It relies on bank overdrafts to pay staff salaries and to take care of other utility bills. Management blamed the budgetary problems to unpaid advertisements owed to the institution by some of its customers.
Sources close to the Ceesay family have confirmed the release of Lamin Ceesay. He has been released on bail, pending his arraignment in court.
