Breaking News:Gambian farmers owed 60 Million Dalasis-Waa Juawara reveals-Mbarodi says NADD will never run away like UDP'S Ousainou Darboe!!! Breaking News:Gambian farmers owed 60 Million Dalasis-Waa Juawara reveals-As he finishes nationwide tour ahead of the polls
Juwara
says NADD is not a Mickey Mouse Party and "will never run away from
Jammeh's bully soldiers like UDP'S Ousainou Darboe"- He insists that
Jammeh got to go come September!!!
By Pa Nderry M'Bai
 Gambia's
fire brand and leading politician Lamin Waa Juwara, has charged that
the country's farming community are currently owed over D60 Million
dalasis by the Gambian government, as incumbent President Yahya Jammeh
is poised to fail in his third term re-election come September 22ND.
The former Niamina Dankunku Parliamentarian in the first Republic, who
just concluded a nationwide tour told the Freedom Newspaper, in an
exclusive interview that Gambia's farmers are facing the pinch of the
country's economic and political crisis, as there was no indication
that the government will facilitate the payment of the D60million debt
owed to the farmers. Juwara who is a senior executive member of the
opposition NADD visited the Lower River Division, the Central River
Division and the North Bank Division of the Gambia while on a political
tour.
" Everybody is angry with this regime. I started my tour
in LRD to kiang west, Jarra, Niamina, Fulladu, Niani and SabagSanjal
and the Badddibus. The people are very disappointed and frustrated by
the regime because the government failed to purchase their groundnuts.
Farmers are currently owed 60 million dalasis worth of groundnuts.
It's a big disaster. Farmers are still owed. There is no indication
that the government will pay them before the elections." Waa Juwara
lamented.
While the government of the day is embarking on
endless festivals, Juwara continued the Jammeh regime is also lavishly
squandering public funds. Juwara who said he felt sorry for our farmers
added that most of the farmers were living far below the poverty line.
He says Gambian farmers can no longer afford three decent meal a day.
He accuses the Jammeh government of not being sensitive to the farmer's
plight. He said the government has earned itself with the reputation of
being good at designing white elephant projects with little or any
significant development recorded over the years. He fumed that our
farmers will never vote for such an irresponsible and corrupt
government like that of the Jammeh regime.
The former UDP
National Secretary and propagandist said despite promises made by
Agriculture Secretary Yankuba Touray that the farmers were going to be
paid after the African Union Summit, the farmers were still owed. He
said private groundnut buyers such as Gamco and others were at the
centre of the unpaid farmers nuts controversy. Juwara argues that there
was no way that President Jammeh can win in the coming polls under such
a ailing political environment. Juwara who suffered torture and arrest
over dozen times said the APRC's support base in country was declining
by the minute and many youths were frustrated by the regime's inability
to provide them with jobs and skills. He accuses Yankuba Touray of
being inconsistent with his statements regarding the farmers plight as
Touray at some point denied through local press reports promising that
the farmers would be paid after the AU Summit. He said Jammeh's
government is doomed and must go come September 22ND.
Waa
Juwara also picked on the NRP/UDP alliance saying with or without the
NRP/UDP alliance Jammeh must go come September. He said NADD is not a
mickey mouse opposition party and is ready to challenge the Jammeh
dictatorship.
" Jammeh cannot make it this time around. The
question of UDP/NRP alliance pulling out from NADD will not save the
APRC. Jammeh is going. He
should start packing his bag and start leaving the state house. They
cannot mortgage the future of the whole country. They don't feel the
Gambia. They don't feel the plight of the ordinary man. This is why he
is hiring and firing them." said Waa Juwara. He added" NADD is not a
mickey mouse opposition party. We are not going to run away like
Ousianou Darboe. We are going to stand up and defend our rights.
Freedom is not a gift. We are prepared to see that there is free and
fair elections and our supporters are highly motivated young people
all over the country. We are not afraid to go to jail. We are ready to
defend our rights at all cost. The elections must be free and fair. "
The
outspoken politician said NADD will never abandon its supporters in
this trying times and are ready to put their lives on the line to
ensure Gambians are free from the Jammeh dictatorship and one man rule.
He says NADD politicians are not chicken hearted and will always speak
out against injustice and other social vices threatening the fabric of
society in the West African country. Mr. Juwara says NADD want to see
Gambians rights and liberties restored soon and the country be free
from despotism.
Reacting to NRP'S Hamat Bah that NADD wanted to
eat an unbaked cake, Juwara retorted by describing Bah's rantings as
utter rubbish and totally unfounded. He told the Freedom Newspaper
that the said description advanced by Bah better suits the NRP/UDP
alliance, whom he accuses of being power hungry. Juwara says NADD has
been very accommodating as it extended numerous invitations to
Ousainou Darboe to come and lead NADD since he was adamant to be the
flag bearer. He accuses Hamat Bah of eying for the Vice Presidential
seat before Darboe even got elected as a President. Juwara widely viewed
as a controversial politician said NADD was not interested in power
struggle at this hour, but how to liberate Gambians from the current
"madness" we found ourselves as a nation. " We want to restore
democracy in the Gambia." he posited.
Regarding
NADD's position on the recent sacked IEC officials, Mr.Juwara says the
government's action was unconstitutional. "We are already challenging
the registration excise carried out by the former IEC, who have been
accused of misconduct or malpractices by the state. We are not only
going to court or but would also to take any line of action to ensure that
the excise is credible." said the Niamina Dankunku lion widely known as
Mbarodi.
He
added that President Jammeh owes the Gambian people an explanation
regarding the sacking of IEC Chairman Ndoneh Njie and others. "He
should tell us why he sacked them. I don't have any confidence on the
current IEC. I don't think that they are independent." said Waa
Juwara, insisting that they will not settle for anything other than
free, fair and transparent elections.
Waa said NADD will not
entertain any provocations from the APRC. He says the APRC dares not to
provoke them on the campaign trail, which will soon kicks off. The APRC
he said is a party full of boot leakers, sycophants and dishonest
technocrats. Juwara said the so called technocrats contributed to the
country's bad governance , as they allowed to be used by the
dictatorship. He says such disgraced intellectuals cannot be trusted
and will be remembered by Gambians for putting us in such a misery. He
said the Gambia is one of the backward countries on the sub-region,
where human rights and the rule of law is abused on a daily basis.
