The Reason Behind the Shameless Killings and Brutal Torture of GAMBIANS
By Baati Jollof
How are the mighty fallen? Hello
Gambians, Countrymen and Countrywomen. During the past few days there
have been great revelations about issues that had been clouded in
mystery for some time now. In my youth days in the late 1960s at Saint Augustines
High School we were taught by those humble priests the real virtues of
life irrespective of religion. As a Muslim student I enjoy studying
Bible Knowledge. Am sure some of you reading my contributions on this forum, will say that this old man like making reference to Saint Augustines
and the good old days. But I must confess to you that these were the
days when every GAMBIAN was his brothers keeper, most especially for
those of us who live in Banjul and the greater Saint Marys Division at that time.
Never
had we heard about arson attacks on the press because they have tried
to expose corruption; Never had we heard of a journalist brutally
murdered because the government believes the journalist has vital
information in his hands; Never had we heard of lawyers callously shot
because they stand up to defend the truth; Never had we seen or heard
of our sons and daughter being inhumanely tortured by our own brothers
and sisters. Such acts were always described as UNGAMBIAN and
foreign. Gambia was know as a land of peace and tranquility, where
even strangers enjoyed free food in any compound they went to, while
most strangers were openly and freely accommodated by our great
grandparents, and even making them part of the Family. Such was the
humane spirit in the Gambia, our beloved country. Have our generosity come back to hunt us?
The escape of the former head of the presidential Guard, Major Kalipha Bajinka to Dakar, Senegal
is in my humble believe, a blessing in disguise for our country.
Presently, anywhere you go to in the country, the only person whose
name is whispered is: Bajinka. As senior civil servants, we also
continue to pass information amongst our trusted friends (for trusted
friend are hard to find in the Gambia these days) concerning the atrocities and carnage that Bajinka had committed for the regime under the orders of Yahya Jammeh. To
be candid a close permanent Secretary had once told me about four years
ago that he is really sorry for Bajinka. Asked who is this Bajinka that
you are talking about; he responded; he is a member of the State
Guard, but he is the one doing most of the dirty jobs for Jammeh.
I will say that I am one of those naive Gambians, who find it very difficult to believe that Gambians will be so much brutal. Yahya
Jammehs wickedness is definitely UNGAMBIAN and hence the constant
question of his citizenship. The way this rude boy talks and
threatens the citizens of the country, makes me to believe that he has
no relatives in this country. Prior to July
1994, Yahya Jammeh can only be associated with the Late Pa Alphonse
Tamba and his wife Teacher Tamba. We definitely do know that there is
no blood relation between Yahya and Pa Alphonse. Yahya was probably a
Yarluwan as was Banjul then and Pa Tamba just helped in making him comfortable and feel at home in order for him to go to school.
The
reason behind the routine and shameless killings and torture of
GAMBIANS is just that Yahya himself has a deep hatred for Banjulians
and Gambians in general. Yahya will not hesitate to embarrass and
disgrace any Gambian of high standing repute. He
has an illusionist belief in a Greater Cabu Kingdom and for him
Gambians do not very much matter in this, but could be used as a
stepping stone. Yahya has created division in the army by recruiting and enrolling Cassamance rebels in the ranks of the army. Am
not questioning the citizenship of people like Bajinka and Lang
Tombong, but surely terror suspects and torturers like Musa Jammeh,
Aziz Tamba and Solo Badjie are not Gambians. This is why such young
people can strip people like Abdoulie Kujabi and other detainees naked,
(despite their age), pour water on them and electrocute them
mercilessly to the point of coma. No Gambian in his right thinking mind
will do that to his fellow Gambian, knowing very well how small and
closely knitted we are. But despite the odds, we must be bold enough to
say that some Gambians have been involved in these inhumane acts on
fellow Gambians. People like Alhagi Martin (Lagos), Kalipha Bajinka,
Lang Tombong Tamba, Bamba Manneh, Modou Pica and Kwasu Sanneh had decided to follow greed and selfishness, even if it means killing their own family members.
In
All, I would say that Kalipha Bajinka where ever he is must find time
and confess to Gambians. Kalipha must speak out at the opportune time
to clear his name otherwise the regime will dump everything on his head. The crimes that have been committed in the Gambia
cannot go unpunished. It is better now to clear your name for
prosperity otherwise, as we hide in our rooms and talk, we as Gambians
will continue to see you as public enemy and enemy of the state who
have decided to kill and maim Gambians for a few dalasis paid by yahya
jammeh. It is your choice to prove beyond all reasonable doubt that you
as a Gambian have served the country honestly and as an officer you
have executed your duties with respect to the laws of the land. Failure
to do this, will make Gambians to continue to see you as somebody worst
than Judas; So speak out Bajinka.
