What Could Have Been.
Fatou Jaw Manneh, DC
When NADD
broke up, I was really depressed. I just wander what could have been if
the opposition stayed united. And why is it that they could see the
error of their disagreement. In the end, I came to the realization that
the opposition was not infact as united as they pretended to be.You
would think that The Gambians should be on top of their agenda and not
worry about a presidential candidate. These elections could have been an
easy win if the opposition had remained united.
Jammeh with
all this hype is very cowardly. The superpower president cannot campaign
the width not to mention the length of The Gambia. The president who
threatened that he will kill 20 000 of us and go to sleep, cannot move
out of The State House. With his extra long prayer beads, the sword and
all, you will think he will tackle a lion without hesitation. This
hunter of journalist who calls us all bastards of Africa, is yet to
produce us the name of his father or his own identity.
The
bickering opposition could have easily send Jammeh packing or perhaps
just hand him over to Abdoulie Wade with all his garbs, swords and all.
He fits the discription of a Casamance native. The opposition needs
to require him to produce his birth certificate failing which we will
hand him over to Wade. He is not a Gambian. This President who never
caught a life chicken is always celebrating a revolution that only
exists in his head. He declared that he laid down his life for The
Gambia, and he was going to crush any opposition that attempts to
tarnish the good son of The Gambia image he has established for
himself. All his swearing and insulting is directed toward the
civilians population, but when it comes to the military, Jammeh is
running scared as hell to venture out on the campaign trail. He
should tell us about his beach party, and how many limousines and bags
of rice we can expext after the September elections. The quietness of
the Jammeh's APRC camp weeks before the elections is weird. They will
sneak on the campaign trail, because he himself is just scared that the
military boys maybe hiding in the woods. The very dangerous, brutal and
sneaky kind of viciousness that
he introduced against his "enemies" is now haunting him. Today, Jammeh
cannot even make a phone call without using the false name Musa Mendy.
It
is possible that they are all exhausted from the finjang parties of the
African Union carnival. It is a blessing that he cannot go on any
campagin, and I believe that is God' s little way of saving us all from
the crazy and retarded remarks that he will likely reiterate over and
over again. Jammeh has always painted an image of himself as the
Goliath of Gambia, and poor Gambia, is still looking for that little
David who will knock Jammeh down, and send him back to not just
Kanilai, but back to his president Abdoulie Wade. What a relief that
could
have been to Gambia and Gambians.
But,
Jammeh has a plan. He is scared to go on a campaign, so he sent his
girls in the name of Isatou Njie-Saidy to check the woods to see if
Bajinka is lurking somewhere, or if Sana Sabally is coming back or that
some military he murdered is going to spring back from their graves
and get him. Mrs. Njie-Saidy made the trip and came back to announce
that the farmers are boiling with rage, and she was not sure of the
Alkalis allegience to the party and the king of kanilai. Njie
Saidy's fact-finding trip was not very exciting, because in the
provinces daggers were drawn waiting for our Pop Star Prince to
emerge so they can speak their minds to him.
Gambians
finally are ready to face Jammeh, from the farmers, the regular guy on
the street, to the civil servant, and the military men and women. What
we lack at this hour to drive Jammeh out of power is the right
leadership. Jammeh is very superstitious and all Waa Juwara has to do
in Brikama is not even galvanize the young men there, but just tie few
Kankurangs in the middle of the night to deliver some spiritual
messages at night. Halifa and O.J. can also organize some Serekunda
boys for some little fireworks at night, and the President will flee
because he will mistake the "petarrs" for another coup attempt on him.
Remember that at one time he actually fled his Kanilai bunker at night
after a small Senegalese plane flew past over his house. His guards
found him panting in the nearby bush, and journalists wanted to make it
a top story, but one editor at that time thought that would be embarassing
for the nation. But, yes it is true that he was found trembling with
fear in the bushes outside his Kanilai home. In fact, he was so scared
he forgot his sword at his home.Yep. The super-power president ran and
hid in the bushes. Ousainou and Hamat can also put some few boys with
drums in between villages at night in the Wuli area, and I can bet that
Jammeh will not step foot anywhere near the sound of the drums. That is
how cowardly Jammeh is. But, it is very unfortunate that we will lose
an opportunity to send Jammeh packing. These elections could have
been an easy win for us The Gambians..
