THE JAWARA FACTOR ON THE APRC POLITICS!!!

President Yahya Jammeh’s amnesty extended to former Gambian statesman Sir Dawda Jawara was politically motivated. Jammeh, knowing that it was only Jawara that can woe the old guards to help him steer the affairs of the impoverished West African country, thought it imperative to invite the old man to return home in the name of “blanket amnesty” extended to Jawara and his family.

JAWARA IS NOW JAMMEH'S ADVISER?

Today, Sir Dawda, is playing crucial role for Yahya, despite his earlier pronouncement that he retired from politics. It is reported that some of the PPP old guards are still loyal to Jawara and they answered directly to him. One of them is Lamin Kitti Jabang. These folks are seen day in day out at the old man’s Fajara villa. Sir Dawda, himself is said to be an adviser to Jammeh. This information was leaked to us by a close confidant of Jammeh. It is reported that all these reconciliation campaign spearheaded by the Presidency were the initiative of Jawara.

        SAIKOU SABALLY/BB DARBOE UPSET!!!

There is also this talk that the likes of Saikou Sabally, BB Darboe were opposed to the move taken by their colleagues to join the APRC. Are they really angry? Sabally and Darboe, we learned were in support of the opposition. The two have good reasons to be angry with Jawara, in view of the coup masterminded by the AFPRC against their own government. It doesn’t make sense for the old guards to pride themselves working for Jammeh. This in itself is a treasonable offence in all fairness. They are aiding and abetting an illegitimate government, which subjected them to all forms of dehumanization.

Darboe and Sabally have been in exiled over the years. Jawara could have insisted that without the inclusion of his colleagues on the Jammeh amnesty list he will not return home. But the old man, at the time was concerned about his well being and not his colleagues. True, he suffered while in the UK-that he was living in an ordinary life but this should not compelled him to neglect his colleagues. Today, the same Jawara is playing cool and hot politics behind the scenes in Banjul.

JUWARA SAYS DARBOE IS A PART TIME POLTICIAN

I could not help but to laugh when Juwara told me in an interview that Darboe was a part time politician. That he Darboe, was not a career politician, like that of Juwara. Very interesting statement. Juwara believes that Darboe pre-occupied himself with court cases. The question that comes to mind is what makes one to be a career politician? Does it means abandoning social life, personal aggrandizement and concentrate on politics?

Sadly, most of the voters are not aware of the sacrifices taken by the likes of Juwara to liberate The Gambia. These folks have put their lives on the line to challenge the dictatorship over the years. They have not been moved by money or position to join the APRC.
