Once again, Jammeh’s authoritarian government and his henchmen are at it again. The arrest of Pa Nderry Mbai’s family is another outrage by this criminal government. It is quite disconcerting that this blatant attempt to intimidate Mr. Mbai into submission by arresting his family, whose only crime is their relation to Pa Nderry Mbai, came at the heels of the IMF declaring the Jammeh government qualified for the debt relief program. This again proves the absurdity of the IMF’s decision to reward Jammeh’s corrupt and tyrannical government with debt relief.

Jammeh must understand that no amount of intimidation will deter people from reporting his criminal activities. This attempt proves the effectiveness of the online papers, since he has no means of illegally shutting them down or murdering the editors, he resorts to the cowardly act of arresting family members of people exercising their fundamental human and constitutional rights.

To Mr. Mbai, stay strong and do not be intimidated by this cowardly act. To President Jammeh, stop your pusillanimous, disdainful actions against the Gambian people, release all those illegally detained, and drop all the frivolous charges against Ms. Kumba Mbai and end all the intimidations against the Mbai Family.
