Dr. Tamsir Mbowe Released
On Bail!
Having spent close to four days in state custody, the Director of the Presidential Aids Treatment Program Tamsir Mbowe, has been released on bail, the Freedom Newspaper can report. Mr. Mbowe was detained at the Holland Gambia Fishing Company in Kanifing shortly after he was relieved from his position, as the Chief Medical officer at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital. He was replaced by Dr. Mamady Cham, the erstwhile Director of Health Services at the Ministry of Health.
The controversial Russian trained Gynecologist Doctor was released on Saturday, following an unsuccessful search spearheaded by his family to locate the missing Medical Doctor. Mr. Mbowe has since reunited with his family. The conditions associated with his release is unclear, but sources said Mr.Mbowe had been engulfed in a marital troubles since he married a second wife.
Dr. Mbowe recently married a Latri-Kunda German lady Lena Hydara. Sources said Mbowe’s relationship with his first wife Fatou Njie deteriorated immensely since his decision to marry Mrs. Hydara, who comes from a “sheriff family.”
At a well attended wedding ceremony in Latri-Kunda German, Dr. Mbowe spoke about the need for his wives to turn their ears against detractors. Mbowe was concerned about “hypocrites” who are bent on tearing families apart. He therefore gave a heads up to his wives.
"Scientifically, when men are serious with their wives, it will reduce the risk of getting HIV/AIDs and other STIs, certain social behaviors, among others. Women are more than men so it is good to marry more wives in accordance with the Islamic principles." Dr Mbowe added. He advised his wives to unite and understand that he (Dr. Mbowe) loves both of them equally. "Let them [his wives] not listen to what people are saying. People will come with different stories but they are all under me and I love them very much. I am from a polygamous family and I have good relations with all my brothers," he revealed.( Daily Observer on its August 2nd 2010 Edition).

A caller who reached the Freedom Newspaper on the phone Friday said what the paper reported about Mbowe’s arrest was factual. The caller claimed that she is a member of the Mbowe family.
“ I read your paper on a daily basis. I also listened to Freedom Radio. What you reported about Mbowe is factual. He was detained. He was released on Saturday. I am calling to let you know that he has been released,” the caller said.
According to the caller, Mr. Mbowe had a rough marital life since he married Lena Hydara. The caller said Mbowe’s first wife Fatou Njie had vowed to teach Mr. Mbowe a lesson he (Mbowe) would never forget in life.
“ She told Mbowe that she would make sure that he is arrested. Mbowe’s father is close to one hundred years (100) years of age. She also said that she would do whatever she wants and nothing would come out of it. There is no respect in their marriage. I was not surprised that Mbowe was arrested because she boosted about her capabilities,” the caller alleged.
According to the caller, Mr. Mbowe is an “easy going person who have high respect for his parents.” The caller said even though Dr. Mbowe had the financial means to live on his own, Mbowe opted to stay with his Dad at their family home for sometimes.
“ Since he married Lena Hydara, he has been experiencing problems with his first wife Fatou Njie,” said the caller.
It is unclear if Mbowe's arrest has to do with his marital woes, but sources said the former RVTH boss was held at the Holland Gambia Fishing Company in Kanifing.
Both Dr. Mbowe and his first wife Fatou Njie could not be reached for comments at press time.
