Breaking News: The Big Interview: Independent Newspaper Publisher And CEO Baba Galleh Jallow Speaks!! Jammeh And Co Exposed!! Thursday, January 31, 2008 (1954 reads)
Breaking News: Independent Newspaper Publisher And CEO Baba Galleh Jallow Exposes Yahya Jammeh!!!
"No, I don’t think the country is on the right track politically. I think the current political situation is very troubling because it is a situation of dictatorship, a situation where people are bullied by the government and the head of state behaves as if he owns the country itself and everything in it. That doesn’t bode well for the future of our country. The only change I notice is that he was once a poor lieutenant weighing just over a hundred pounds and is now a hefty multi-millionaire who is even richer than the Gambian state. Otherwise, I don’t think he has changed at all. If you are incapable of assimilating contrary ideas and opinions, you will be incapable of changing, at least not for the better. I think the power has gotten into his head and he is mind-blind, which means that he is incapable of rational thought as far as the exercise of power is concerned." These were the exact words of Baba Galleh Jallow, former Publisher and Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Newspaper. Mr. Jallow was speaking in an Exclusive Interview with Freedom's Pa Nderry M'Bai. In this masterpiece interview, Mr. Jallow who is a PHD student in the United States, commented on Gambia's ailing democracy, Gambia's human rights crisis, the country's deplorable media situation, brain drain in Africa, culture of impunity in The Gambia, dictatorship, the military's participation into active politics, Jammeh's attempts to strip off his Gambian citizenship and a host of other topical issues. Below is the full text of the interview. Please read on.....

ETHNICITY AND THE DYNAMICS OF AFRICAN POLITICS: IS IT THE INFERNO BEHIND POLITICAL QUAGMIRES. Thursday, January 31, 2008 (385 reads)
ETHNICITY AND THE DYNAMICS OF AFRICAN POLITICS: IS IT THE INFERNO BEHIND POLITICAL QUAGMIRES.
By Binneh.sMinteh, EX Army Lieutenant
More blood has been shed and more wars have been fought in the name of ethnicity than any other cause across Africa . Hundreds of thousands have been slaughtered in the name of ethnic tension for decades and endless manmade rivers of blood traverse the continent in the name of power and control of resources. Many continue to be taunted and hunted as ethnic tension ravage most communities. Sadly, it is innocent men, women and children who are gravely affected while political morons who are the root causes of such immoralities hide under the banner of politics in their quest of selling dump founded agendas.

Principal Magistrate Buba Jawo using his discretion and powers vested on him by the constitution, dismisses the said case. The charge sheet prepared by the office of the Inspector General of police was said to be full of inconsistencies and lack of evidence. The presiding magistrate never minces his feelings about the poorly written charge sheet. He therefore urges the police to put their house in order if they are really serious in indicting the seven accused persons.

Yahya Jammeh an irate talker trying to cheat history-How the university started? Thursday, January 31, 2008 (706 reads)
Yahya Jammeh an irate talker trying to cheat history-How the university started?
By Hammadi Maasinah
No one! I mean no one for that matter should ever be taken by surprise or get frustrated over what Yahya is uttering about the university! This is a blessing in disguise because Yahya has added another pile on his heap of mishaps that will be used to hook him towards doom faster than ever. This reminds me and others about the way Yahya shamelessly rushed to declare himself the owner of YDE-Youth Development Enterprise prior to the great fall of Baba Jobe. That alone suffices to justify his sudden removal from power by any means necessary. Him as a sitting president openly saying he owned a bankrupt company that was taken to court after committing crimes that are tied to economic ones? A president's own company evading tax? Duping the GPA-Gambia Ports Authority and the Department of Customs and Excise? A president saying so while a commission of enquiry was being formed during the so-called OPERATION NO COMPROMISE? Hear Yahya Jammeh! Hear him talk then coil in a shell of disgrace. The Yahya tag is a tag of shame and a dark curse for our land period.

Author:Essa Bokarr SEY.
Poem:Is it? Isn't it?
It is,it isn't.
Is it? Isn't it?
Is it easy or at ease?
It whips,it weeps.
It sleeps,it slips.
It is the necter of roses.
It is the sachet keeping the doses of those dear desires.
It eats,it itches too.
It is a belief.
Do you believe in it?
Pick it before that evil niddle pricks it.
It is grease,it is grace.
Somewhere it is weak.
Somewhere it is strength itself.

RE:TIME TO PATRONISE OUR COUNTRY'S AUTHORS- Cherno Omar Barry Writes From France!! Wednesday, January 30, 2008 (557 reads)
RE:TIME TO PATRONISE OUR COUNTRY'S AUTHORS
By Cherno Omar Barry, France.
Mr. Editor,
I will be pleased to have this reaction of mine published.
I am really happy to learn that Mr Suntou Touray has discovered the blog on Gambian literature that I have been developing since 2004. It is meant to help discover Gambian writers and list them. The idea is not only to help motivate other writers, but also to encourage our present publishing writers who, through this blog, would be discovered and could be lucky to receive recognition elsewhere. I cannot divulge some information here, but the blog has made great changes in the way Gambian writers and Gambian literature are viewed. Scholars have been guided by this blog to write their scientific papers on The Gambia and several graduates contacted me for more information on certain authors. Issues I was very happy to help with.
