Editorial:Will Fugitive Colonel Ndure Cham be an Issue on Gambia/Senegal Joint Ministerial Meeting?
Wednesday, October 31, 2007 (1424 reads)

                                  EDITORIAL
The joint Ministerial Meeting between The Gambia and Senegal, is a welcomed development. The meeting which is  due to kick-off  Thursday morning in Banjul, would attract stakeholders from various walks of life. At last,  sanity has prevailed. Our leaders are beginning to come to their senses. Accusations and counter accusations of  alleged subversive activities being traded between the two sister countries, is the least desirable. We at the Freedom Newspaper welcome the Banjul meeting. It’s a right step in the right direction. There is need for the two countries to sit  and brainstorm on issues affecting  sub-regional interest. Our leaders must bury the hatchets  and open a new page. For these countries to live in peace and harmony, there must be an environment of trust and respect.

The Director General of Gambia’s National Intelligence Agency Pa Jallow,  has been forced to resign or face the inevitable  sack. Mr.Jallow in a letter addressed to the President announced to step down from office for medical reasons, but NIA insiders say the former DG,  was given two options- either to resign or to be fired. He has been replaced by his Deputy Malamin Jarju, a relative of President Jammeh. Jarju used to head the military intelligence, before being redeployed to the NIA,  as the agency’s number two man. His predecessor Pa Jallow,   was said to have not met the expectations of the President. That Jallow refuses to enforce the Presidential decree to arrest and detain the civilian population without trial. The erstwhile Gambia Student Union President Alhagie Nyabally, is being trailed by agents of the National Intelligence Agency  the (NIA),  following reports that the former GAMSU strongman had  absconded from the jurisdiction of The Gambia, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Nyabally who left his wife and kids behind, was  said to be currently residing in Spain. He arrived in Madrid this past week, amid increasing threats on his life. Some agents of the NIA were said to have visited his house, where they interviewed  his wife about the former student unionist's whereabouts. Nyabally's wife was reported to have told the NIA that she doesn't know about her husband's whereabouts. Madam Nyabally is currently living in anxiety and worry, as the NIA repeatedly harassed her. It's not yet clear what might have triggered the NIA to react in such a way, but informed sources say Nyabally has long been targeted by the state for persecution. He suffered numerous arrest and death threats from agents of the NIA.

Nyabally far left on the run!

Breaking News:Gambia: Judges Appointment Faulted! Journalist Baboucarr Gaye Dies!!
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 (1137 reads)

By Correspondent Foday Ceesay, Banjul.

The appointment of three Gambian Judicial Staff as Judges, is being greeted with a pinch of salt, amongst the members of legal fraternity here in Banjul, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal.  Ms. Na Wadda Ceesay, former Solicitor General, Judicial Secretary Ngui Mboob and  Saffiatou Njai, Master of the High Court were elevated  to position of judges of the High Court.  Their appointment is seen as another attempt by the Gambian leader to have direct control of the judiciary. The three appointees, according to these protesting members of the Bar lacked the required qualifications to serve as judges of the High Court. " This country is in wrong hands. The Judicial Service Commission has once again politicized the judiciary. Hiring inexperienced lawyers to the Bench is an affront to the rule of law. You don't expect these new appointees to administer justice with fairness and honesty. These are former Government servants, whose independence had been compromised whilst in office. There is no way that these people can stick to their oaths. We have seen the Chief Justice AK Savage, Justice MA Paul and Justice Agim dancing to the dictates of the Executive. If the CJ can yield to Government's pressure, who are these new appointees to withstand the pressure? The judiciary is now owned  by the President. He directs the affairs of this important Estate. Non of these appointees were consulted. They were just called one morning and offered the job. This is how the President operates. They are hired for a reason, but time will tell." said the legal luminary who wished not to be named for fear of reprisal from the state.

Gambia:Soldiers Mass Killings:Rtd Lieutenant Pays Tribute To Fallen Colleagues!!
Tuesday, October 30, 2007 (1263 reads)

BY BINNEH S MINTEH Rtd Lieutenant

In her famous book titled “Wild Justice” Jacoby argued that “Vengeance and forgiveness are marks along the spectrum of human responses to atrocity. Yet they stand in opposition: to forgive is to let go of vengeance; to avenge is to resist forgiving. Perhaps justice is what partakes of both revenge and forgiveness.” So in remembering our fallen comrades who were cold bloodedly murdered by the AFPRC (The Military Junta) on the sad day of November 11th 1994, one should return to the central question: Should Gambians seek for forgiveness, avenge, revenge or ensure that justice takes its proper dispensation for such acts of barbarism?

Editorial: Why SOS Neneh Macdouall Gaye Should Be Fired!!! Bakary Njie, Omar Ndow and Katim Touray victim of Conspiracy
Monday, October 29, 2007 (2966 reads)

       EDITORIAL
President Yahya Jammeh should appoint the right people to man the nation’s Information Ministry. The  Gambia is losing millions of Dalasis,  as a result of poor Management at the Information Department. SOS Neneh Macdouall Gaye, is not qualified enough to run such an important Ministry . She is a square peg in a round hold. Thanks to Neneh’s ignorance and arrogance, GAMTEL and other income generating sectors within  her Ministry are grounded today.  She uses the likes of Omar Ndow, Katim Touray and others as scape goats to cover her own in-competency. President Jammeh acting on Neneh’s lies and smear campaign, he sacked these hard working folks. GAMTEL has been Africa’s  leading telecommunication outlet. Under Bakary Njie‘s watch, GAMTEL was the bastion  of hope for Gambia and Africa as a whole. GAMTEL staffers enjoyed annual bonus and decent salaries. The institution had never failed to meets its  financial obligations to Government. Poor Neneh, came in and undermined  Bakary Njie, Omar  Ndow and Katim Touray’s fine legacy. She disburses GAMTEL funds without proper accountability. She also allowed her husband to  work with her in the same Department of State, which is morally wrong. Pa Gaye used to hold Managerial position at GAMTEL. Reports have it that Neneh is doing all these nonsense,  just to pave way for her husband to takeover GAMTEL one day. Gambians are keenly watching developments.
