Breaking News: The Big Interview: Ambassador Essa Bokarr Sey Speaks!!Jammeh can be replaced within five seconds if he dies today! Tuesday, February 05, 2008 (868 reads)
“Even If Jammeh Dies Today, There Are Competent Gambians Who Can Replace Him Within Five Seconds.” Ambassador Sey Declares
…….All Political Prisoners Should Be Freed In The Gambia
Does he forget that many of those being persecuted home have kids who would love to see their dad’s smiles too?
“Jammeh’s life is in the hands of God not me! Mine too is in the hands of the same God. Politically here is my answer: If disrespecting the constitution continues to prevail then Mr Mbai chances of stability after a sudden stoppage of Jammeh's reign are too slim. Even though many may think he should go,if Jammeh was to suddenly disappear into thin air or be replaced without proper methods in place it could lead to vacuum if uncontrolled with immediate effect. That is, putting in place methods that are meant to adhere to the rule of law. The contrary means any Samba or Demba can use force to rule. This is where Jammeh needs to visualize and respect the rule of law. Because him being replaced in a responsible way can only be caused if he rules in a responsible way. Infact this is future political investment for his own safe exit route. No one will beg him to do so. The choice is his. Certainly one day he will go. I would think a wise person will want to retire, stay at ease and take a back seat enjoying his or her legacy rather than clinging onto power to the point of death. This is where I admire Senghore and Abdou Diouf(both former leaders of Senegal). Senghore died and was honoured after retiring. Did he die a president(active duty)? No! Mr Mbai carelessness while in power breeds chaos. Likewise force also breeds force. Non chalant actions breed non chalant reactions period. Of course Mr Mbai if everything is running fine that is, (where the rule of law supersedes the desire to rule by force) then replacing Jammeh with a competent Gambian is as easy as one,two three. There are so many Gambians who can replace him and rule the country in a very effective way within five seconds if he were to resign, disappear or answer to the ultimate call of natural causes under normal circumstances. Everything must come to an end except Allah,so Jammeh if he loves The Gambia should think about that as well. Other wise the adverse results may as well continue if his reign was to suddenly end. Then leaving a vacuum within a power cliché! Especially in this noisy hypocrisy of praise singing that is prevailing within the four walls of the state house.” Former Gambian Ambassador to the United States Essa Bokarr Sey, speaking in an Exclusive Interview with Freedom Newspaper’s Pa Nderry M’Bai. Mr. Sey who also served as an Ambassador in Taiwan and France also commented on Jammeh’s move to nationalize the naming ceremony of his first son Baby Muhammed Jammeh. Sey commented on a wide range of issues, ranging from intellectual honesty, role of Gambia’s religious leaders in any true democracy and a host of other topical issues. Below is part one of the interview, please read on…….

Exclusive Interview: I’m Not Afraid Of Prisons Or Death- Human Rights Lawyer Mai Fatty Declares!!!
“……..The United Nations Security council had never pronounced Baba Jobe guilty of arms trafficking or dealing in blood diamonds.”
“I’m not afraid of prisons or death in the defense of the barriers I believe in-that’s freedom, justice and equal opportunities for all Gambians, with prosperity in the sprit of democracy. From personal experience, I know what it takes, I know what it smells and the color of kill since school days. As a teenager, many, many years ago, through matured professional writer, as a student activist and human rights defender, I faced burden shattering batons of torture and dehumanization from some fellow Gambians in law enforcement. I experienced stigma, management stigma of false vicious allegations. The numerous encounters with conspiracy and betrayals from the least expected sources, I experienced untold agonies of intentional in section of dignity, indignity rather and of course the interesting drama of deprivation and poverty as a child, growing up in boils of rural Gambia. But nothing much bothers me any more. I have learned that if you surrendered to fear, there will be no end to it. Any patriot who is worth of his or her salt, must be prepared to risk his or her liberty or life to secure democracy, freedom and economic wellbeing of the citizenry. The people are no fools. Now, this is my objective and I make it as a Mission in my life to confront these issues wherever they appeared in the country.” These were the exact words of Gambia’s leading Human Rights Lawyer Mai Fatty. He sat there, watching, listening, thinking, and the tears rose like a hot fountain of grief from the depths of his heart and ran down the sides of his cheeks as those three words, those words of hope and power, those words of sense and sensibility, those words sang by men and women, adults and children who have much to look for, who dare to hope, sank into the depths of his soul. Yes we can, they sang, yes we can.
