A Day At The State House- Jammeh Will Soon Go!!! Sunday, March 09, 2008 (1941 reads)

B M Ceesay, Banjul.
Pictures never lie. What are you watching? I say what are you watching? Is this not the State House in Banjul? Again, I must commend my helper at the Daily Observer for taking me round the State House, where I took pictures of soldiers, cooks and security instillations. The President would be surprised to learn that his own kids were photographed. Some top army officers supervised this undercover paparazzi style of new style of journalism in The Gambia. These soldiers want to signal to HE that he is not in control of this country, as he foolishly thinks, to borrow their expression.

By MB Ceesay, Banjul
Few days ago, I was assigned to solicit reaction from the Central Bank Governor, Bamba Sarho. Sarho was accused of abuse of office, massive corruption and favoritism. It is gathered that close to D1 Million Dalasis worth of per diem allowances have found its way into the pockets of the Governor. Sarho is in the habit of not surrendering travel impresses he received after his overseas trips. I was welcomed into the this building you are watching online, which is call the CENTRAL BANK of the Gambia. I spent hours waiting for the Governor, who was said to be busy attending a meeting. His staffers were very hospitable. I was accompanied by a staffer of the Daily Observer. This reporter too is under my payroll. He helps me to penetrate the State House in Banjul. Aligasimou Jallow, Gambian Student In Cuba
We are Gambian students in Cuba. We came here through government scholarship, under the Ministry of Higher Education. We came here without knowing the conditions of this country and nothing was prepared for us before coming, so we came here with empty hands. After few days arriving in this country, the one responsible for the international students came to see us. We meet him and explain our problem to him. He told us that nothing was prepared for us. Why because we came here through the Ministry of Higher Education but others are given each 2,400 dollars. He said the said students were under the President’s package.

Freedom Newspaper Readers In The Gambia React To Government’s Move To Block The Paper!!!
……Freedom Newspaper Is Our University- says A Central Bank Insider
By Samba Mboob, Banjul
The recent move taken by GAMTEL, the country’s main telecommunication company to block the main IP address of the US based Freedom Newspaper, has attracted a huge outcry in The Gambia. Freedom Newspaper fans are voicing their concerns and opposition to the Government’s move. They described the internet censorship as an affront to democracy and press freedom. The concerned Freedom Newspaper readers said the Freedom Newspaper was their major source of news. The readers said they lacked faith into the pro-Government Newspaper the Daily Observer, which they say is hell bent on burying the truth about current political happenings in the country. Now that the Freedom Newspaper has been blocked by the Government, the readers said they have no means of accessing the true Gambian story. “ It’s only the Freedom Newspaper, which is reporting the news accurately. The Observer is a disservice to this country. The paper has been turned into gutter press. Your paper’s hits is ten times more than that of the Daily Observer. The Freedom Newspaper contributed to the sharp decline of the Daily Observer circulation. People here no longer reads the Daily Observer. It’s a garbage. It’s only meant for the dummies and unpatriotic. No meaningful Gambian wants to read that paper calls the Daily Observer. We are very angry over Government’s move to block Freedom.” said Lamin Taal.
