Horomsi:Shame, Shame,Shame, to Minister Neneh Macdowl Gaye-She is a disgrace to journalism!!! Thursday, June 01, 2006 (943 reads)
Hormosi:Information Minister Neneh Macdowl Gaye, is a disgrace to the journalism profession. This lady is avoiding the local and the International media. She is not keen at commenting on the mass arrest of Freedom Newspaper subscribers. The Minister seems to be happy about the arrests. She is lying to Jammeh, in a bid to gain political sympathy or patronage if you like. Nenneh shall be remembered as an enemy of the private press. Her tenure is marred by arrests, illegal detentions, abductions, tortures, and in some instances killing. This lady will do whatever it takes to keep her job. She believes in "syphocancy and griot" journalism. This was the lady who lied against Borra Mboge, Jainaba Nyang and others to get favours from Jammeh.

Panaroma With Bufaaleh- The NIA STORY-What is GAMTEL OMC? Thursday, June 01, 2006 (1032 reads)
There are two dangerous nests in The Gambia today-Gamtel's OMC and NIA Operations Room...
Omar Ndow Gamtel your share..
Mr Ndow is the present head of Gamtel. He has answers to give to Gambians when President Jammeh is sent out of the state house. This does not mean Mr Ndow started the OMC anyways. Mr Bakary Njie,Foday Ceesay and Pa Modu Gassama should tighten their belts because President Jammeh is going away....It can never be possible for Gambians to take on President Jammeh as far as the likes of Ndow,Ceesay and Gassama are within our midst. This excludes Nuru Secka because he is at least an NIA Intel.
According to my source at the NIA Nuru,Baba and Daba Marenah were never in good terms.

Does he really know the Intriguing connections?
President Jammeh is far from being able to win the hearts and minds of the real PPP Stalwarts. Having former President back on the old Atlantic road means nothing to the in-laws.Breaking it into pieces!
We are going to Break everything into smaller pieces for Omar Faye. He will at least see the reason why he cannot stop the present trend of revelations.
Sources have revealed that Omar Faye was being monitored

Reporters Without Borders wrote today to Salamata Sawadogo, the chairperson of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR), voicing “extreme concern about free expression” in Gambia and suggesting the time has come for the commission to consider transferring its headquarters from Gambia “until the civil and political liberties of Gambians, including freedom of expression, are respected.”

FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION MUST BE RESPECTED-Foroyaa Thursday, June 01, 2006 (566 reads)
Foroyaa Newspaper Burning Issue
Issue No. 41/2006, 29-31 May 2006
Editorial
FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION MUST BE RESPECTED
The Pa Nderry debacle raises a number of important questions, but the one that concerns us most on which the other questions depend is the issue of freedom of expression a necessary prerequisite for democratic dispensation. Everyone has the right to receive and give information and this right has to be protected in a democratic society. The constitution provides in section 25 that every person shall have the right of freedom of speech and expression, which shall include freedom of the press and other media. It further provides in section 207 that the freedom and independence of the press and other information media shall be guaranteed.

April 2000 Massacre: Gone But Never Forgotten. Thursday, June 01, 2006 (540 reads)
By Associate Editor Mathew Jallow
It was a cool summer morning, and darkness was slowly giving way to a morning full of promise. It was the time of day when the light seemed to chase the darkness away, and gradually everything around became visible again after the long dreaded night. As little morning birds chirped their melancholic melodies high up the mahogany bantaba, a lone woman was walking from the village well carrying water on her head. She walked towards her hut with deliberate slowness as if without a care in the world. When she was barely a few meters from her hut, she seemed to mumble something inaudible to herself. She appeared lost in her thoughts.

THE MAN BEHIND THE KILLING

Campaign for the Freedom of Mariam Denton
I cannot understand the silence within the Gambia opposition and civil society about the illegal detention of one of the most dynamic and charismatic women in the struggle for human rights violation in our country. I cannot also understand the silence also among the activist in the diaspora to campaign for the release of a woman who have been advocating for gender issues, women's rights and their participation in National politics.

THE GAMBIA: BBC reporter arrested in widening crackdown
New York, June 1, 2006—Gambian security officers arrested a local journalist working for the BBC on Tuesday, a local source told the Committee to Protect Journalists. A BBC source in London confirmed that Lamin Cham had been detained. His whereabouts are unknown. His arrest comes amid a government crackdown on a critical U.S.-hosted Web site, Freedom Newspaper. On May 25, police summoned everyone who appeared on a list of alleged contributors to Freedom Newspaper, which was circulated via e-mail and reprinted in the pro-government Daily Observer. Freedom Newspaper’s U.S.-based editor, Pa Nderry M’bai, told CPJ that the list was leaked by someone who hacked into his e-mail account. It identified journalists, local and exiled Gambians, and government employees who allegedly served as sources.
