Prose:-How determined this blazing rebel are! Friday, July 07, 2006 (366 reads)
How determined these blazing spears are! "Inspiration
without information leads to superstition" What a verse! I did not get
this from Plato or Chomsky. This is from a Jamaican Reagae star called
MUTABARUKA.MUTA is a great poet. Why
quote from the depth of the sea of ancient Greeks all the time? I found
comfort in what MUTA was sending into my ears.I did also revisit the old library in that vegetation of our "Nyaiye" There I met Kocc Barma. He said this..."Kulli-adj-Kulli-adji-moku-mun"-Kocceh!
Barma! You are a genius. Kocc's wisdom means this in John's alphabet
".......the one who shelves or hangs something is more powerful than
the object itself......" Hello Johnny! Can you please taste this Afican

Saja Taal has never absconded-Says a Board member of Observer-Omar Fye accuse of "spreading false news." Thursday, July 06, 2006 (685 reads)
Saja Taal has
never absconded-Says a Board member of Observer-Sports Minister Omar
Fye accuse of spreading "false news" and authorising the publication
of Freedom Newspaper subscribers.
By Staff Writer
Former State House Press Director,
now New Sports Minister Omar Fye, is said to have ordered the Daily
Observer Editorial management to publish the names of the Freedom
Newspaper subscribers, who were referred to as "informants" to this
leading Newspaper, the Freedom Newspaper gathered. Fye who was
compensated for his role on the Freedom Newspaper hacking is also
spreading lies against Dr.Saja Taal that Taal was on the run which is
baseless and unfounded. Fye is using his office to black mail the likes
of Saja Taal, with the sole aim of getting him sacked. Saja Taal is at work
at the Observer and has never been arrested by the NIA. The Freedom
Newspaper has good and loyal sources at the heart of the Daily
Observer, who confirmed to us that Taal has never absconded and was
still reporting to work. Omar Fye for some reasons harbored grudges
against Taal, which we do not want to reveal at this hour, but what is
clear is that he and Mam Sait Ceesay are hell bent on undermining Saja
Taal.
Taal is still at the Observer-Omar Fye accuse of spreading
false news and the brain behind the publication of the Freedom
Newspaper subscribers!!!

Jamming of radio stations extended to VOA Thursday, July 06, 2006 (295 reads)
Reporters Without Borders
Press release
6 July 2006
ZIMBABWE
Jamming of radio stations
extended to VOA
The sabotaging of broadcasts by radio stations based abroad is
continuing in Zimbabwe, Reporters Without Borders said today after
learning that programmes of the US government radio station Voice
of America (VOA) have become the latest target of the jamming
carried out by the Harare government with Chinese complicity."This new case of jamming shows how the Zimbabwean government
despises its own people, blocking their ears to the news outlets it
dislikes," the press freedom organisation said. "It would be
useful if United Nations mediator Benjamin M'Kapa, the former
president of Tanzania, would demand an end to this perverse campaign.
The UN and the African Union should realise that Chinese penetration
of African markets brings more sophisticated means of repression and
censorship in its wake."

AU SUMMIT: A WASTE OF EVERYTHING Thursday, July 06, 2006 (570 reads)
BY MADI CEESAY NEW YORK CITY
One of the last things that Yahya Jammeh was reported to have
told the Gambian people was that convening the African Summit in our
capital ,Banjul was "not a waste of resources",but anybody who had
closely monitored the entire process unfold and wrap-up would not
hesitate to agree with me that this so-called summit was indeed "a
waste of everything" not just resources. First ,it was a
waste of time .Prior to the commencement of the summit two full days
were declared national public holidays. All schools were completely
shut- down at a time when majority of schools in the Gambia were
preparing for their end of third term and year examinations. These
examinations are the most important ones conducted in the year because
they decide the fate of students across the nation over the following
term--whether to repeat or promote a student.Consequently , both school
teachers and students were screwed-up by this impromptu holidays that
had no space in the permanent list of national holidays during the
academic year.To announce a public holiday in the middle of preparation
to exams instantly distracts even the most studious of
students.Potential results could be mass failure of students in the
exams.

A
Job well done to United States Government for the cancellation of the
millennium development fund to the Gambia Government for its failure to
observe the basic ethical issues attach to the condition for access to
such funds. I hope United Kingdom Government will also review its
refinancing policies to promote democracy and good governance.
Tolerance to despotic regime like that of Yaya Jammeh and his APRC
could undermine strategic goals to spread and practice democracy.
Priminister Blair should act know to end Jammeh's madness. Such funds should be given to democratic countries on the continent and not the APRC

Publication director jailed for "defamation" Thursday, July 06, 2006 (158 reads)

Publication director jailed for "defamation"
Reporters Without Borders has denounced the incarceration, on 29 June
2006, of Moustapha Sow, publication director of the privately-owned
daily "L’Office", who was sentenced to a six-month prison sentence with
no parole for "defaming" a businessman."In Senegal, as elsewhere, journalists
pay the price for political crises when the press laws are
inappropriate. With the incarceration of Moustapha Sow, we have
additional proof that a bad law creates injustice. Throwing a man of
the press in prison, on the pretext of alleged defamation, repairs no
harm and only serves to satisfy a desire for personal revenge," said
Reporters Without Borders.
