POST-ELECTION CRISIS: WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR KENYA?

By Binneh s Minteh

Lieutenant Rtd

After the announcement by Kenya’s Electoral Commission declaring presidential incumbent Kibaki to be the winner of the controversial elections, the dramatic shift in the political landscape has continued to inflict chaos and ethnic violence across this East African nation. By Michael Scale, UK

Dear Mr. Editor,

Like many other viewers, I tuned into the interview from Dr.Lang Fafa Dampha, thinking here is a bright young fellow who has educated himself. But as I delved into the deeper meanings of his observations, I became deeply disilusioned.Infact I would take issue with most of what he says When are Africans going to turn their gaze away from the West for the causation of their lack of progress ,since Independence.

“Finance Minister Balla Gaye Has 1.7 Million Pound Sterling At A UK Bank“- Reveals Moro Gaye

Gaye Accused Of Tax evasion

By Moro Gaye, Banjul

Pa,

Since my last article was posted on your online newspaper touching on the present Finance Minister and his adviser, Mr. Geoffrey Renner ,the so-called 'old guards' , I received a steady torrent of ugly email invective from friends and cohorts of Mr. Bala Gaye. I just want to remind those people that as a Gambian and a taxpayer for that matter, it is an issue of principle for all and sundry to tackle graft and cronyism with the simple sword of truth. That truth must be made public especially when Bala Gaye has been championing the fight against corruption immediately following his appointment in 2003. Through his vicious plans many SOSs, Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Public Corporations went before the Paul Commission and suffered untold losses. Some lost their jobs, others landed properties and even valuable possessions. He said then that he did

IMPUNITY IN THE GAMBIA: CAN THE TINY NATION BECOME A REPLICA OF AN INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE MODALITY?

BY BINNEH S MINTEH

Lieutenant Rtd.

In the book titled "International Law and Human rights (1950), at 61", H. LauterPacht argued that "some of the reasons that have prompted changes in the strengthening of International Law, include not only the recognition of the individual as a subject of international rights and the acknowledgment of the worth of human personality as the ultimate unit of all law, but also the realisation of the dangers besetting international peace as the result of the denial of fundamental human rights; and the increased attention paid to those already substantial developments in international law in which not withstanding the traditional dogma, the individual is in fact treated as a subject of international rights

The Swiping remarks of "fanatics"-Suwaibou Conateh isn't he a harmful celebrity?

The Swiping remarks of "fanatics"-Suwaibou Conateh isn't he a harmful celebrity?

By TIMBUKTU

It has caught the attention of many now. It indeed has because our culture of "sparing" some while grilling others for lesser mishaps is just disgusting to say the least. This "sama nitt" or "n'na mo" syndrome has to stop if we really want to get out of the dark cave of wishful thinking. After Suwaibou was exposed and attacked it appeared as if a saint has been touched? Is he really so? When one thinks about the life and legacy of Suwaibou as a journalist it makes one wonder why all this noise in defense of "Diamond" Conateh after all? So Suwaibou can live a life of a critic, achieve all he has today from that profession and yet still be spared when he errs? Lets be realistic and stop making prophets out of street smart people. That’s not good for him Suwaibou and The Gambia. Infact those yapping online may not know but Suwaibou has always been called or seen as a special adviser of The President from day one. There are state guards who know him as he goes in and out of the state house for reasons best known to him and the man he meets. Will he ever deny that? If he does he will swallow a huge bait. It makes me wonder when I see presumably sane people always running to write something in defense of those they dearly love even if the loved ones are harming the country? Is that what we call responsibility? Is it? There are some who went too far only to make sure "Diamond" Suwaibou is left alone in his silent zone of myth and supremacy.
