Breaking News: The Big Interview:Gambian Professor Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha Speaks!! Tuesday, January 08, 2008 (977 reads)
“ No Democracy without socio-economic liberty.” Says Gambian Social Scientist Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha
“Democracy carries a different meaning to different people. In the Gambia and all the other countries in black Africa, there are constitutions, and parliaments which should be the national decision making bodies, and there are elections. I think most African countries are democratic in the formal sense at least, even if I have to be prudent in defending that thesis. We have to be very careful in talking about democracy in an African context. We have to take the history of international relations into account, as well as the post-colonial realities. It’s all too complicate but considering international relations today and the post colonial (modern imperial) factors democracy in what the West means by the word is a camouflage. As Africans we have our own principles and values. We can democratically govern ourselves basing our governments on these values and principles. But we must respect ourselves and uphold our own values. There can never be effective democracy without socio-economic liberty.” These were the exact words of Gambian born Social Scientist Dr. Lang Fafa Dampha. Mr. Dampha who is based in Paris, was speaking in an Exclusive interview with Journalist M L Drammeh, a former colleague of the Editor of the Freedom Newspaper. Below is the full text of the interview. Please read on…

Editorial: Jammeh To Be Replaced Soon!!
Regime change is the only solution to Gambia’s bleak political future. President Yahya Jammeh got to go. He has over stayed his welcome. In order to avoid coups and counter coups, the Civilized World should tell Jammeh of The Gambia to consider handing over the country. No one at this hour can safely predict what’s in the minds of our men in uniform. The Gambian Security Services believe that it’s only coup that can unseat dictator Jammeh from power. Recent coups and counter coups are clear testimony of their unresolved determination to send the Kanilai emperor packing.

WHY PA NDERRY MBAI IS RIGHT- BY THE WATCHMAN
The esteemed Pa Nderry Mbai was right to comment on Suwaebou Conteh’s endorsement of "President" Jammeh as "Man of the Year." What is striking about the attacks on his right to dissent is their misdirection and lack of substance. When one analyses the loud protests against Mr. Mbai, one sees an assault not on the premise of why he did so but more along the lines of how dare he object. Underneath it all, one can sense a simmering resentment of Mr. Mbai that can be variously categorized as jealousy, fear, and even, pettiness. Hence the ad hominem yapping by his detractors and hence my coming to the defense of a pioneering journalist, Mr. Mbai himself.

Bishop Tilewa Johnson a man of God I met-His inspiring words and my path! Says Ambassador Essa Bokarr Sey! Tuesday, January 08, 2008 (354 reads)
Bishop Tilewa Johnson a man of God I met-His inspiring words and my path!
Author:Essa Bokarr SEY.
While reading through the articles on this paper surrounding the name of a man of God, something natural and special "urged" me to speak up. I am not speaking to defend the Bishop's name at a personal level because we do not know each other that much. However, I am here to say that our paths crossed while I was serving at the Gambian mission in Washington DC. The able and good Bishop came there leading a delegation of West African Christians with a high standing in society. These men and women headed by a Gambian in the name of Bishop Tilewa Johnson left a lasting memory in my mind. I cannot still forget the desire I saw in the Bishop's face when he was presenting their mission's aims and objectives in a very calm and mature style.

“SOS Neneh Macdoll Gaye Is Way Worst Than The Person Of The Year“- Says Gambia University Student
By A Concerned University Student in Gambia
I just completed my programme at the University of the Gambia and will be graduating on the 26th January 2008. Neneh Macdoll Gaye is way worst than the WORST PERSON OF THE YEAR FREEDOM NEWSPAPER gave her. She is more than a liar, cheat, trickster and an opportunist that student who earlier wrote from the University said about her. Neneh the liar and the trickster did worst that that to us during our term as executive members in the University of the Gambia Students Union than the present one.

In support of veteran journalist Suwaebou Conateh
By Alieu Khan Stockholm
I was keenly following the reactions of individuals and the UDP branch in the USA, on veteran journalist Suwaebou Conateh’s decision to name the Gambian leader as the Man of the Year. Seemingly they were all furious about it and felt president Jammeh does not need such an award.

Just my guess Mr. M’bai, you are riding high on your white horse of freedom, high-fifing friends as you circle in your little world of nothingness. It must feel like a chest pumping orgy to stick it to Swaebou and the like for daring to cross your imaginary boundary of what constitute a good journalist. Your inflammatory rhetoric against Swaebou will not go unnoticed as it is the kind of act shunned by many fair minded people.
