Chavez seeks ties in west Africa-Mali to Benefit from $1Million petroleum gift-Gambia yet to declare Chavez gift!! Saturday, August 05, 2006 (368 reads)

Chavez seeks ties
in west Africa
Venezuela's
President Hugo Chavez is in Benin
as part of a tour aimed at strengthening ties with Africa.
On Wednesday he visited Mali, where he promised $100m a
year in petroleum products to help fight poverty.
Analysts say Mali
and Benin
could both benefit from Venezuelan money and know-how as they explore their
territories for oil and gas reserves.
Mr Chavez is said to be seeking African support for Venezuela's bid
for a seat on the UN Security Council.
"I will give Mali $100m a year in petroleum
products and I do not want payment in cash. I don't want you even to say thank
you," Mr Chavez said during his meeting with Malian President Amadou
Toumani Toure, quoted by Reuters news agency.
"But I need your mineral products like bauxite, gold
and fertiliser, and the rest of the total will help you combat poverty."
Benin is
thought to have 4bn barrels of untapped oil reserves.
Mali is
exploring for oil and gas on its northern frontier with Algeria, but as one of Africa's
poorest countries, needs finance and expertise to achieve its goal.
African nations are seen to be central in Venezuela's attempts to secure a non-permanent
UN Security Council seat, says the BBC's Greg Morsbach in the Venezuelan
capital, Caracas.

The Curse of Political Rallies in the Gambia-Commentary Friday, August 04, 2006 (548 reads)
The Curse of Political Rallies in the Gambia
By Yankuba Darboe
LLB (Hons)
As we approach the third presidential election of the second republic,
in just few months time, we are about to witness, yet another political
campaign, in the form of political rallies in the Gambia. This episode
in our democracy is the rotten tomato that spoils the peace and unity
of our people rather than the electoral process itself. This is the
period of utter madness in the Gambia, when our women folk get
transformed into pop stars of their various parties, releasing new
singles in every political rally. The lyrics of whose songs usually
become the messages heard at the rallies rather than the political
manifestos that such rallies are hosted for.

The Scramble over Gambia 2006-Commentary Friday, August 04, 2006 (397 reads)
The Scramble over Gambia 2006
By Yanks Darboe LLB (Hons)
In just a matter of weeks; three or possibly two parties will be
scrambling over the future of the Gambia, who wins is your decision. In
this piece, I intend to weigh the chances of each one of the
contestants, by looking at their strength and weakness as they face the
Gambian people to sell their political manifestos. If the possibility
of having a two party run for the presidential election occurred, then
this will be the first time we have a two party run presidential
election in the Gambia, since the registration of PDOIS as a party. The contestants for this year’s scramble, is two familiar faces of the
past decade, and an upcoming new man to the Gambian presidential
election, but a man who needs no introduction to the Gambian politics.
However, there is still a possibility, that it could be the clash of
two rather than three, but it is yet to be clarified to my knowledge as
to who that second contestant might be. But I can reveal with the
authority of the truth, as to who the contestant number one will be,
and this is no other than, ladies and gentlemen, your worst enemy, the
evil dictator Yahya Adolph James Junkun Jammeh, the incumbent despotic
leader of the Gambia.

The "A" factor and " X " factor Friday, August 04, 2006 (343 reads)
Author:- ESSA BOKARR SEY.
Are these Talking drums or roaring ear drums? Are they wet eye
lashes or torsos soaked in sweat? The more one's mind rotates around
this spiral of confusion, the worse everything becomes near these foggy
methods emanating from Kansala.Who does what? Who says
what? Who should say what? Who should do what? Who can do what? These
are compelling questions within concerned minds every where on our
land. During my early days in school teacher taught us about "Land
Tenure System". At least this was a basic thing that was found in our
human geography text books. I wish the same teacher could teach us
something on "Human-tenure-system" too! Hardship breeds experience.
This same hardship breeds expulsion and explosion. Is it all that easy
for us within CambiBolongo? Experience is a magnet,it either
magnestises wonderful episodes or smoky corners. Is ours not filled
with acrid smoke? Some accept, some deny. Reality is coughing anyway!
The choice is anyone's guess. Chuum waaye! "Saarah yaadi Mbaam Leguey bedey Njoofa neko tellah" Kocc Barma said so!

UDP/NRP ALLIANCE PROPOSAL FOR A COMMON FRONT BY ALL OPPOSITION PARTIES IN THE SEPTEMBER 2006PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
It
is within the spirit of our common objective to bring about a change of
the present status quo in The Gambia and restore genuine democracy,
freedom, rule of law and real economic development that we take this
initiative to invite you to discuss and agree on a proposal to
establish a common front in order to contest and hopefully win the 2006
presidential elections.You
will recall that Mr. Ousainou Darboe and Amadou Taal had met with Hon.
Halifa Sallah of NADD to discuss acceptable arrangements towards a
united front of the opposition in the 2006 presidential elections and
the 2007 National Assembly Elections. These discussions were supposed
to continue after each side had consulted with its Executive Committee
for endorsement. We
in the UDP/NRP Alliance have since had a meeting of our joint National
Executive Committee. The joint Executive Committee has mandated Mr.
Darboe to pursue the discussions with NADD as quickly as possible. We
have since been waiting to hear from Hon. Halifa Sallah so that

ZOOMING ON GAMBIA'S YAYA JAMMEH CIA FACT BOOK UPDATED. Thursday, August 03, 2006 (953 reads)
By TIMBUKTU, Our world Affairs Special Correspondent
The
CIA Fact book on The Gambia was last updated on July 20th 2006. The
Press release suspending The Jammeh government from the Millenium
Challenge account MCC was out June 16th 2006. If these are not enough
signals for President Jammeh then he must be snoring. Looking at the
latest remarks on the CIA fact book's sheet on The Gambia under
President Yaya Jammeh makes it easy for the freedomnewspaper and other
outlets while exposing the decadence in The Gambia. The same negative
details are present in both classified and declassified reports on our
Gambian crazy leader. President Jammeh is yet to learn a lot more about
the consequences awaiting buffoons like him along the way. He has been
lying for the IMF and World Bank, they have been baffled before but no
more will that ever happen again. The fake figures Jammeh and Famara
Jatta sent to these bodies angered a lot of people. They were angered
because they saw a crazy man like Yaya Jammeh trying to pull a fast one
on them when they were simply sympathetic towards Gambians. They never
imagined Jammeh was lying because he was received as a beggar crying
within the four walls of the offices that saw him come in asking for
help. Now that the truth has been exposed President Yaya Jammeh resorted
to "cooked" anti western bravado.

Private Eye With Gambisara-Jammeh's systematic maladministration exposed-A New column Thursday, August 03, 2006 (820 reads)
BY: GAMBISARA.
PRESIDENT YAYA JAMMEH Vs. SYSTEMATIC MALADMINISTRATION IN THE GAMBIA.
 It
is very disheartening to hearing about high profile stories of
Institutional corruption relating our dear country being said
everywhere. And now concerned persons have chose to pin-point those
persons responsible for such hineous acts. This is not a surprise to me
on a personal point of view, because sooner or later we will know the
entire truth engulfing the system. Based on the fact that auditors and
those in charge of monitoring and evaluation in various institutions of
various donors countries and agencies to the country will want to know
why and how their funds are utilised. Such includes both human,
financial and material. In this serialization, I am starting with the
security force. Corruption within the Gambia’s
security force is in masses. It may be a suspicion to those outside the
system involving top officials. It’s the sad truth. An officer was
promoted and said to me that he does not like the promotion. Quizzed as
to why such a comment when it should been a joyous moment for him. He
said when an officer get promoted, his sins double. He went further to
say that the offices of the IGP or CDS are the highest corrupt offices,
hence they report directly to the commander-in-chief, they are very
influencial.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-Bajinka,Alhaji Taborah Manneh,Senior Army officer's ....... Wednesday, August 02, 2006 (1020 reads)
Bajinka from grace to grass the fiber roots are still being dug by President Jammeh himself...
Now
that Bajinka's case is on the chopping board,President Jammeh has once
again been taught that we will be releasing deeper details that
can implicate his so-called Inner Circle. So far so good on Bajinka's
case. We reported that he was arrested in a classic style as soon as he
stepped out of the aircraft. After that so many theories were advanced
about this famous soldier's worst case scenario. What matters is
that the revelations coming from here have once again been
authenticated. Bajinka was warned by these very revelations not to come
back from Nigeria,he was advised to avoid Banjul but for some reason he
was convinced to come back as if there was nothing wrong. It pleases me
to see his dark side of the story released on the daily observer after
they called him an escapee. It is pleasing because circumstances have
compelled President Jammeh's own mouth pieces to spread a story we
started almost three months ago. Whereever Bajinka is he must have by
now seen the difference between what we wrote about him and what he was
hearing from Lang Tombong Tamba through his wife.
