Re: Awarding a man of the year, 2007 to President Yahya Jammeh:
We the members of the United Democratic Party {UDP} New York, U.S.A. Branch strongly object to your Magazine’s decision to award a MAN OF THE YEAR, 2007 to President Yahya Jammeh of the Republic of The Gambia.Mr. Conateh, you are a living witness since day one of the so call July 22, revolution of AFPRC Junta now transformed to APRC which is regarded as a carbon copy how they have failed every single Gambia except those who want to play hypocrisy. Many Gambians whose aspirations were to see an improvement in the social, economical and political conditions in The Gambia continued to suffer from the dictatorial, terror and oppressive Mr. Jammeh’s regime.

President Wade has a dream for Africa,I will not mince any words-Essa Bokarr SEY
By Essa Bokarr SEY.
While sitting at home watching my TV satalite in United States of America I was really, really pleased. I was pleased because I saw intellectuals from our dear continent shaping the affairs of this continent under the umbrella of President Abdoulaye Wade. I have always been a keen listener of President Abdoulaye Wade's speeches in all honesty the man has a dream for Africa. Having listened to Wade on a TV program in Paris three weeks ago, having heard and seen Wade during his visit to Zimbabwe, having heard Wade during the EU-Africa summit in Lisbon Portugal left so many convincing traces in my mind. His political philosophy maybe different from others but the dream he has should be embraced by every African.

Yahya Jammeh and NEPAD-the good packages his shallow mind could not undo. Hammadi Maasinah. Let us use sober analyses in this piece and tackle Yahya Jammeh with less heat from our keyboards. Of late we have been seeing his frontline-cyber warriors feeling so desperate while attempting to defend his spacious power vacuum. The latest from Banjul centers around NEPAD, a subject he has been battling with, all these years. He has shamelessly been trying to undo sophisticated economic packages he is far from understanding. Yahya needs to be told one thing. That there are classes being offered online which he can use thus get educated. Lack of education coupled with power for the shallow-minded breeds bitter results. Today in this very paper called freedomnewspaper(which is the nightmare of Yahya and his creeping termites) we will expose the reasons behind Yahya Jammeh's anger against NEPAD.

Hundreds of thousands of mourners have gathered the holy city of Touba to pay last respects to Senegal's late spiritual leader, Serigne Saliou Mbacke, who died at the age of 92 on Dec. 28. Saliou was the last surviving son of
Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba, 19th-century founder of the Mouride sufi order, and had been "caliph" since 1990. About a tenth of Senegal's 11 million citizens are said to be Mourides, including President Abdoulaye Wade, who declared three days of national mourning. Mouhamadou Lamine Bara Mbacke, a grandson of Ahmadou Bamba, is to become the sixth caliph. (Press Association, Dec. 31; Reuters, Dec. 30; BBC, Dec. 29) Gambian President Yahya Jammeh also expressed sadness at the passing of the caliph, calling it a "great loss" for both Senegal and Gambia. (Afriquenligne, Dec. 31) However, Gambia is being accused in the assassination a week earlier of another prominent Senegalese marabout, or holy man...

Editorial: Suwaibou Conateh Betrays Gambians!!!
Jammeh’s Award Is A Joke!!
Award for Jammeh? For What? What’s wrong with Suiwabou Conateh of the News and Report Magazine? Has Jammeh bribed or intimidated him or what? We are just curious. Suwaibou Conateh of all Suwaibou Conateh has betrayed the Gambian Media fraternity by trying to bury the truth. The qualities attributed to Jammeh in that misguided and cooked up award were figment of Suwaibou’s own imagination. We are for real. Conateh has mortgaged his fine legacy over night by issuing such an ward to Yahya Jammeh. History is going to judge Suwaibou Conateh very badly. We mean very badly.

PROSE:-In the eyes of observers-"Icons" not "Substance"-noise or choice?
Author:Essa Bokarr SEY.
The wind is blowing again...life goes on and on. Is it going on fine? Has it been "reifned"? Has it been "fined-tuned"? Thought upon frost or frost upon thought? Calculations versus miscalculations! Hindsight coming from the exhaust pipe of those confused minds. Can that save us from the end these endless semantics? The more one looks through the thick layers of that misleading myth, the more one can realise that thought is not flying at all. Thought during this episode sees substance being covered with form. No more coverage!

Breaking News: In His New Year Speech, UDP Leader Darboe Accuses Gov't of creating misguided economic policies! Thursday, January 03, 2008 (673 reads)
Government’s Misguided Economic Policies Has Continued To Wreck Havoc On The Populations- says UDP Leader
“The economic stagnation that has been the result of the misguided policies of this government has continued to wreak havoc on the population. Prices of basic commodities rise daily despite the apparent fall in the exchange rates of all foreign currencies vis a vis the Dalasi. The continued inability of government to make satisfactory arrangements for the equitable and timely purchase of the groundnut produce, the lack of other production avenues for farmers, the non existence of employment opportunities, have all impoverished the country and make life extremely difficult for the average Gambian. My dear compatriots, the situation of our nation is very serious. The last Budget approved by the National Assembly has shown an increase in government expenditure in the areas of Defence and the Office of the President whilst the social services like health and education have had meagre increases.” These were the exact words of the UDP leader Ousainou Darboe. This statement was part of Darboe’s new year message to Gambians. Below is the full text of the message. Please read on….
………………………………..................................
NEW YEAR MESSAGE OF MR. OUSAINOU DARBOE, PARTY LEADER AND SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE UNITED DEMOCRATIC PARTY (UDP
Fellow Gambians,
As we close the year 2007 and open 2008, I wish to take the opportunity once again as I have done in the past as Secretary General and Party Leader of the United Democratic Party to extend to all Gambians and non Gambians my wishes for a good and prosperous new year.
