Ailing Gambian President Calls On the country’s youth to Leave The Streets And Find Jobs!!
Fellow Gambians
As a new year dawns on us and we begin the year 2008, it is customary for us, as individuals and as a nation, to reflect on our achievements and shortcomings during the year just ended and commit ourselves to confronting the challenges before us with renewed vigor and greater collective efforts. The stakes may indeed be high but our success, to a very large measure, will be determined by our courage and resilience to overcome these challenges.

Breaking News: Jammeh Named In Deyda Hydara's death!! Reporters Without Borders releases 2008 report! Wednesday, January 02, 2008 (865 reads)
Deyda Hydara’s Death Linked To President Yahya Jammeh- Says Reporters Without Borders in their 2008 Press freedom report!
“About 90% of murders of journalists go entirely or partly unpunished. Governments often play for time and count on fading public memory to protect the killers. Reporters Without Borders is fighting against such impunity year after year with constant campaigns focusing on old cases. In 2007, the organisation condemned the authorities in Burkina Faso, nine years after the murder of journalist Norbert Zongo, for abandoning the investigation of his death while there was clear evidence involving members of the presidential guard. It also strongly condemned obstacles put in the way of the enquiry into the December 2004 murder in Gambia of journalist Deyda Hydara, its correspondent there, whose death has also been linked to the president.” According to a press freedom report just released by the Paris based Reporters Without Borders. Below is the full text of the report. Please read on…

The Emblem and our loyalty to the nation-Can Gambians rebel?. Tuesday, January 01, 2008 (555 reads)
The Emblem and our loyalty to the nation-Can Gambians rebel?.
By Hammadi Maasinah
Here is the national symbol and the national pride of our Republic, The Gambia! It has a meaning. Lions, a palm tree and tools for farming. Lets think out of the box for a while here. Any of those lions can stand for the fauna, the palm tree can stand for the flora, the tools can stand to help us weed the fields, increase production of food. However, it is our own minds that can stand to help us weed the greed, evil feelings and senseless wastage within Yahya Jammeh's circle. The more we reflect on the past, the more one can see the clear justification of a rising social tension. Social injustice creates social unrest. Do we need a rocket scientist to show us whether there is social injustice in The Gambia? If anyone still feels that way please refer to Yahya Jammeh's speeches, body language, actions and reactions. There you can find the answer.

The Banjul Figures and The Realties of The Gambia!! Tuesday, January 01, 2008 (278 reads)
The Banjul Figures and The Realties of The Gambia
Part V – Financial Performance of Public Enterprises
This is an interesting area for many reasons; huge portion of national resources are sitting with these institutions, the products and services they sell affects many in different ways, they are a source of employment for many others, visible either by product or landmark and functioning area of the economy. It is therefore my belief that the readership are anxiously waiting to see the output/outcome/impact of this sector on our economic development. This anticipation is understandable but don’t be surprise to be disappointed. The financial performances of these institutions are not adequately measured nor are we told how much do they pay into the public coffers. Equally we do not know if these institutions keep to their tax liabilities as me and you are required to do so either we are buying a candle or matches at the market and/or income tax on our monthly salaries.

Gambia: Salary20 percent increment: Michael Scales Warns against looming full blown inflation!! Tuesday, January 01, 2008 (509 reads)
Michael Scales Says 20 Percent Salary Increment Might Further Aggravate Current Inflation!!
By Micheal Scales, UK
Dear Mr.Editor,
May I accept the notice of a 20% wage increase for Civil Servants in The Gambia with a note of despair. Having reached the completion point for Debt Relief allied to satisfactory control of inflation since 2005.The prudent management of the economy takes on a new meaning with the positive and negative influences of the increased lending capability of The Government of The Gambia.Whislt I appreciate the euphoria of the birth of Master Mohammed Jammeh to the Presidents family and the joy to myself and the nation this brings,I can not help thinking that the decision to increase salaries by a staggering 20% at one go,is more emotional than prudent and will play havoc to the continued control of inflation, producing a further rise in staple food prices. To inflict such pressure on the economy without any control of commodities will undoubtedly send the wrong signals to the speculators and indeed ,the IMF and The World Bank. Those who will feel this most will be the very poor and disenfranchised vulnerable parents with children.
