Sky News Correspondent Did A Wonderful Job For Exposing Jammeh's Madness!
"Gov't And Daily Observer Threaten British Journalist And UN Envoy."
"The statement by Fadzai Gwarazimba, the UNDP co-ordinator in the Gambia, quoted by Emma Hurd, is irresponsible and most unexpected from a UNDP resident representative as her statement is not based on any perceived sexual behaviour pattern by people of this country."says The Daily Observer.
Few weeks ago, the Sky News TV correspondent in South Africa Emma Hurd contacted the Managing Editor of the Freedom Newspaper asking the Editor to help her with an independent minded Gambian journalist to work with them during their proposed visit to the Gambia. Ms.Hurd was planning to visit Banjul, at the material time in a bid to interview President Yahya Jammeh who claimed to have cure for aids. The British born journalist was eager to pursue the story. She believes that the story on Jammeh's aids cure claims needs to be covered and was determined to travel to the Gambia. Our Interview with Demba Ali Jawo inspired her more to pursue the story. Our Editor responded by giving her some contact persons in the Gambia, who could help to facilitate her mission to be successful. Ms.Emma Hurd did a brilliant work by proving Jammeh wrong on his aids cure. The journalist was very focused while at the state house and had succeeded in exposing Jammeh's lies on aids cure. We invite you to visit this link to listen to Emma's interview with Jammeh:Sky.com/news Angered by the journalist's revelations on Jammeh's "aids cure hoax" the government mouth piece Newspaper, the Daily Observer issued a damning editorial accusing Emma of "misinformation" doubting the President's ability to cure aids. The Observer was also not happy with the comments made by the UNDP representative in the Gambia who was equally critical of Jammeh's fake aids cure. The representative was quoted as saying that the government propaganda was likely going promote risky behaviours in the country.

Bombshell At Cabinet-Longest Serving Gambian Minister Sussan Waffa Ogoo Fired!
President Jammeh Invokes Constitutional Powers To Fire Sussan
"Major Panic Hits Jammeh's Cabinet"
...Police Questions Lawyer Mai Fatty
By Our Banjul Bureau Chief Bolong Jammeh
Susan Waffa-Ogoo Relieved
The President of the Republic, Alhaji Yaya A.J.J. Jammeh, has relieved Mrs Susan Waffa-Ogoo of her cabinet appointment with effect from today.Madam Ogoo was the secretary of state for trade and employment. The President was acting under the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of The Gambia. No official reason has so far being advanced for the Presidents move to relieve one of the longest-serving cabinet members.
Madam Ogoo has served in the Cabinet in various ministerial positions since 1994.Mrs.Ogoo was among the batch of Gambian Ministers who were removed from office following a Presidential cabinet reshuffle. She was hired back few days after her removal. The cicumstances surrounding her removal is not yet clear. The government only issues a terse statement invoking constitutional provisions, which they say gave the President the mandate to remove the Minister.Minister Ogoo's removal is likely to create some panics in Jammeh's cabinet, as she was being described as "Jammeh's pet sister. They were both raised by the late Pa Alfounse Tamba of Latri-Kunda German. Local observers believe that the Gambian leader is trying signal to his cabinet that there "wouldn't be any scared cows in his government with him firing his own adopted sister Sussan Waffa Ogoo.

The Gambia 42,Under-utilized Experience. Can you hear me? Tuesday, February 20, 2007 (915 reads)
HE President Yahya A J J Jammeh,
President of The Republic of The Gambia,
Office of The President State House Banjul,
The Gambia West Africa.
The Gambia is 42 under-utilized experience.
Can you hear me?
Mr President,
The Gambia our homeland has once marked another spot on the world's historical calendar. Are we growing younger as a nation? No. Are we an old nation? No. The Gambia as a piece of land is as old as any other part of mother earth. However,as a country with political and historical identity,it is one of the youngest on mother earth. It is a nation that removed itself from the yoke of Colonial domination in 1965 February 18th. You are a person who says in your biodata, that, you were born in that very year on a different date,May 25th 1965. Certainly my brother these days and dates are so significant for both the general and the specific. For the general May 25th means something for Africa. For the specific 1965 means something for The Gambia. There is no need for me or anyone else to conduct any "fragmentation" as far as the meaning of these dates, days and years are concerned. History and historians have already archived and documented these meanings in the most appropriate way. The only answer here is reading.

Breaking News:Gambia's Minister Yankuba Touray Ask Freedom's Reporter To Reveal Source On Wife Deportation from US! Tuesday, February 20, 2007 (1362 reads)
By Our Own Correspondent
.jpg) A Freedom Newspaper Correspondent contacted Minister Yankuba Touray for his side of the story on the deportation of his wife from the US, but Touray insist to know the paper's source of information. Touray who was not in the mood to talk about the subject matter asked"Where do you get the story from? Who told you that my wife was deported." Mr.Touray who was reached on his cellular phone confirms that his wife was in the Gambia, but refused to offer more comments on the deportation story.
A family member told the Freedom Newspaper that in view of the damning US decision to send Mami packing, Touray was not at liberty to elaborate on his wife's deportation while citing family values. That Touray was bound to undermine his matrimonial life if he ever discusses the deportation of his wife.
Yankuba Touray's cellular phone later went dead due to poor connection. He was still adamant to know the Freedom Newspaper source. But our reporter pointed out to him that the story was accurate, reliable and undisputable. The Freedom Newspaper correspondent did also pointed out to Touray hat he was merely contacted to give his side of the story in interest of fair and objective reporting.

"Deportee Mami Minteh Touray Violates Her Past Vistor's Visa Conditions"
Fisheries Minster Touray In Tears
Lobbyist Aycoth Praises the US Gov't Saying"Corruption is Endemic in the Gambia."
By A Staff Writer
It was a somber day in Banjul, as Aviation workers received the deported wife of the country's Fisheries Minister Mami Minteh Touray, who was deported from the United States by the US Immigration and Custom officials this past week, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Mrs.Minteh who landed at the Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta Georgia accompanied by her younger sister Wouday Minteh on board a Delta Airline flight was refused entry into the United States, as she was said to have violated her visitor's visa conditions, which "do not gave her the legal permission to work" whilst in this country. The disgraced Minister's wife who was rendered speechless after a deportation order was handed to her to leave the country was held for couples of hours prior to her removal from the US. Though, her younger sister Wouday Minteh was allowed entry into the country, who is said to be presently residing in Atlanta Georgia. The Freedom Newspaper received a news tip-off two weeks prior to Mami's visit to the US. Our source hinted that the lady who used to lodge in Raleigh NC, has this time around decided to stay in Atlanta, where one of Minister Touray's brothers is residing. However, her hopes of entry into the US was dashed away when US Immigration officials discovered that Mami Minteh over stayed her welcome in this country during her last visit. The Minister's wife who was engaged in "hair braiding work" and the sale of the local Gambian fish called"Gejah." was informed about the decision to deny her entry into the US. She was consequently deported to the Gambia, where she is presently being visited by a group of sympathizers, family members, loved ones and acquaintances.

Breaking News:The Big Interview:Former GPU Assistant SG Alieu Badara Sowe Speaks! Saturday, February 17, 2007 (1351 reads)
"I was hinted by the Deputy Editor, Sheriff Bojang of arrangements to sell the paper."Says Sowe as he shed light on the sale of the Observer
....."The Managing Director terminated my services with a letter stating that it was “in the interest of both parties.”
By Freedom's Pa Nderry M'Bai
"I was left with no choice. When Amadou Samba took over the Observer, there was occasional interference with the editorial policy of the paper. It was a choice of giving them an easy ride by walking away or stay-put and fight to maintain the integrity of the paper. But the new owner/s would have none of it. When I was assigned to cover the transition to democracy in Guinea Bissau and the subsequent elections, I was informed that The Gambia's consular officer in Bissau was to take care of my accommodation. I did wonder why but then again I thought it was for my own security as the political situation was very volatile. The Observer management also made it clear to me that they had an interest in the outcome of the elections. All indications were that they wanted me to act as a propagander tool for the incumbent Malam Bacai Sagnia. However, many a Gambian have only heard about General Ansumana Manneh not realising that almost all the Generals surrounding Manneh are Gambians, hailed from Jaara, Niani and the Kombos. The people of Guinea Bissau were getting disillusioned by the fact that the administration of the affairs of their country was in the hands of foreigners. Though the military in Guinea Bissau is very professional and disciplined and kept away from the elections, which they left the civilians to deal with, there were serious misgivings within the army dominated by the major tribe, the Balantas. On the other side, the establishment in The Gambia was supporting the incumbent who was elevated to power by the military. President Jammeh was bankrolling his tribesman, Malam Bacai and also provided support in the form of uniforms and equipment to the Bissau army. The Senegalese were uncomfortable with having a Jola President in Gambia, one in Guinea Bissau and Cassamance in between. So it was a very chaotic situation. I was chauffeured to Bissau in a Gambian diplomatic vehicle with the Gambian Consular Officer. On arrival I stayed at the residence built for the purposes of the consular officer and his family to reside. The consular officer was residing at a private residence. So I was staying with a member of staff of the consulate at the official Consular residence. However, I disregarded every advice I was given in connection with my pattern of reporting. I thought I owed it to the people of Guinea Bissau, who were living in abject poverty, to report the truth and their will to the outside world. I don't think the Observer management and the establishment were very happy about this." These were words of the former Gambia Press Union Assistant Secretary General Alieu Badara Sowe. Mr.Sowe was speaking in an interview with the Freedom Newspaper. He commented on a wide range of issues. Please read on..........
..........................
FREEDOM: What can you tell us about the current political situation in The Gambia?
A B S: I think there needs to be a total overhaul of the political system in The Gambia and replace it with one that suits Gambians, one that will ensure that we are on the road to embracing genuine democracy as in the rest of the civilised world. Going by the outcome of the last presidential and legislative elections, one is inclined to believe that the electorate did not just demonstrate their lack of faith in the politicians but they appeared angry at the disorganised and unfocussed opposition – The voter turnout says it all. It is a shame that the opposition in The Gambia, with the exception of a few, have no intention and are not interested in getting into government as that goes with responsibility. They appear to be pleased with staying-on in opposition for the financial and other benefits of being in opposition. What The Gambia needs is a new breed of politicians who will have to work very hard to bring back credibility into Gambian politics.

A UDP-supporter, Mr Kanyiba Kanyi,is still missing and his disappearance has now worried his immediate family members who are frantically searching for him.Mr Kanyi, a local Christian Children's Fund staff, was picked up by plain cloth officers at his home in Bonto village, Western Region of The Gambia on 18 September of last year.According to his family, they have searched high and low, moved heaven and earth to establish Kanyi's whereabouts to no avail."We are distressed and going through a traumatic phase. We do not know the necessary steps to take to secure the release of our relative. The matter is compounded by the fact that we do not know where he was detained," said an outwardly worried-looking relation of Kanyi's.Meanwhile, on 17 October 2006, Justice Monageng, a Zimbabwean High Court judge, ordered the unconditional release of Mr Kanyi but this court order was not carried out as we go to press.
