Breaking News:Has Waa Juwara Defected to the APRC! Waa's resignation from NADD raises doubts!
Thursday, April 12, 2007 (813 reads)

By Our Chief National Correspondent Landing Badjie

The resignation of Gambia's leading political figure Lamin Waa Juwara from the opposition NADD is provoking a heated controversy in the tiny West African country. Our Chief National Correspondent Landing Badjie says some section of The Gambian populace believed that Mr.Juwara was on the verge of joining the ruling APRC, a government which viotlated his rights and liberties over the years. It's alleged that some APRC bigwigs led by Fatou Jahumpa Ceesay had been talking to Waa lately. It's not yet clear what the said talks were centred on, but what is clear is that Waa has given his back to NADD, a party he earlier promises its supporters that he was ready to die for it. Meanwhile, some executive members of the National Democratic Action Movement(Ndam) could not hide their disappointment in their party leader for what they called his unilatelateral withdrawal from Nadd.Mr Lamin Waa is now suspected by his allies for reportedly going it all alone without  seeking  their  consent.

April 10: 45 AK47 From The Army

I would like to join my fellow patriotic Gambians and all concern humanity in commemorating the seventh anniversary of the Gambia’s most darkest day-April 10. I would like to at this point pay homage to the lost ones who were exercising their constitutional rights and getting killed by trigger-happy security forces of President Yahya Jammeh under his direct command. However, there is something that very few people knew about, which I would like the whole world to know from today. I was at the Agency on April 10, 2000 when we receive a call from the then Chief of Defense Staff, Colonel Baboucarr Jatta. He was putting us in the picture that Rex King, then Inspector General of Police has requested an amount of forty-five (45) AK47 automatic rifles from the army. These, according to Col. Jatta have been dispatch to him with full ammunition.

Warning: Ploy Against Freedom Newspaper Correspondent

This is a warning that the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) is planning to track-down your national correspondent Landing Badjie at the upcoming trial of Fatou Jaw Manneh, which is slated for April 11 at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court. The orders came from President Jammeh for the Agency’s personnel to trace him. “I want him stopped.” These are Jammeh’s words. This could even mean tracing him to a lonely place and finish him. For Jammeh to say, “get rid off” always means death. Secretary of State Neneh Macdouall-Gaye and Saja Taal together with some of our men have infiltrated the media fraternity just to know who Badjie is. President Jammeh has put forward an undisclosed handsome reward for anybody who knows Landing Badjie. They know it is a pen name but they are doing everything possible to track him down at the time, which our men described as “best chance.” Even if he is a reporter representing a local newspaper at the trial, he should try by all means to avoid suspicion. If he is not representing any local newspaper, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, LET HIM STAY AWAY. AND ALSO ALL THOSE REPORTERS WHO ARE NOT ASSIGN TO COVER THE TRIAL SHOULD STAY AWAY.

Remembering the Dead! April 10 2000; the Untold Stories!

Yanks Darboe,Post-Graduate law Student,
London.

Fatma Jallow was a very successful woman to the Gambian standard; she was a high flying lawyer working in her own chambers "FJ's Cambers" in Banjul. She was married to a very successful businessman Yorro Bojang and lives in a very comfortable mansion in Kotu. In all her middle ages Fatma had been striving to be successful at one thing; becoming a mother. In the early years of her practice in the Gambian bar, she had spent all her income in visiting Holy men in holy cities around West Africa, for their blessings. She had prayed numerous days and nights; fasted almost a year; begging for the blessing of her almighty for a child. All her age mates, at the time, have had two or three children of their own except Fatma. Thankfully, on April 10 1982, Fatma was finally blessed with a baby boy named after the prophet; Mohammed Bojang. This was the only child she has been blessed with for the next 18 years. She had done everything to protect Mohammed; but this would last, by the orders of the Gambian Almighty, Yahya Allahu Jammeh, on April 10 2000; the day of Mohammed's 18th birthday celebrations. Jammeh is a self proclaimed god who cannot have his own children, but desires to consume the joys and blessings of other Gambian mothers. What an evil god can he be!

Breaking News:Sambang girl tries to kill father for merely denying her to marry a man of her choice!
Monday, April 09, 2007 (862 reads)

By Staff Writer Justice Sam And  Karafa Badjie

A Gambian girl whose desire was to  marry a  man of her choice, only to be blocked by her parents has resorted to committing capital offence by pouring hot boiled  oil on her father's face in protest, the Freedom Newspaper can reveal. Binta Secka, widely known as "Jawo." who was born and raised in Sambang village, in the Central River Division of  The Gambia, is the daughter of a retired police and former Immigration agent Babou Secka. The incident happened three days ago, in Sambang village, which compelled his dad to be placed under emergency treatment at a local clinic in that region of the Gambia. Binta who is in love with the young man said  to be residing in Serre-Kunda, has been in hiding since the incident occurred, neighbors reported. His dad was said to have sustained serious burns as a result of the fracas, which quickly attracted the attention of neighbors in the area. Health workers at the Dankunku Clinic say Mr.Secka was responding to treatment, but still needs constant monitoring in the next 24 hours. Mr.Secka was opposed to her daughter marrying to a young man who was not part of their family. It's gathered that his son who was discharged from the police force, as a result of poor health condition, used to marry  the sister of the man in question who is trying to marry his daughter at the same time. Secka could not understand the rationale behind such a move, since his son's wife was taken away by the said family following his ailing health conditions.

Michael Scales Takes Issue With Saja Taal!
Friday, April 06, 2007 (365 reads)

By Michael Scales,UK

Dear Mr.Editor,
May i thank the contribution from Mr .Musa Jobarteh copied to your newspaper as entered in The Banjul Observer.Throughout my career.I have always found an advantage in keeping good records of buisness conversations and meetings. This ensures correct accountability and can be relied upon in cases of dispute. In the case of my extensive support to The Development of the Gambia through my many trade inititives and sponsership to sport. The stress of being cast in situations with strangers especially in view of the many death threats i recieved, further added to the requirement of records. The Dr.Taal i met on several occaisions was a highly intelligent and accomplished scholar and interlectual. On one such meeting he arranged with the electricity authority on 10th Street East at Fadjara, adjacent to the War Cemetary ,he showed me the grave of a young boy of 14 who had lied about his age to join the Royal Navy in the Second World War.The young man was killed in action. He further educated me on several other historical facts, which encouraged me greatly, that i was not waisting my time and money argueing the Gambias case for support from The British Government. Before confirming our accqaintance recently, I checked with the security guard who accompanied me,on some of these meetings. He confirms it is indeed the same Dr.Taal.In fact there are many witnesses to our meetings. Therefore, let Dr.Taal himself deny our association.
On the matter on the British Colonisation of Africa.....I would respectfully suggest Mr.Jobarteh visits the Musemn on Independance Square in Banjul. It records the historic fact that when the British Govener died of Yellow feaver, the popualtion of The Gambia went into mourning for several months, such was the significance of his loss to the people of The Gambia.I have found much respect for the history of the British during there occupation.
May i further comment on the critisism of Our Prime Minister during the recent anniversary of the British abolition of Slavery 200 hundred years ago , currently running on other Gambian websites.Mr Blair has acknowledged the part we played and has publicly expressed his regret.Though some would like an apology.I must stress this is only my opinion....but i would suggest that Mr.Blair cannot apologise for something he did not do .I have never found any hosility towards British people in The Gambia.....indeed they are a welcome and necessary asset to the wealth of The Gambia...if others would reject this ...then let us waist no more of our time and money in The Gambia.I look forward to Dr.Taals confirmation or denial. As always, my profound respect to you Mr.Editor.

Dr. Taal is not the one Michael Scales painted on Freedom-Scales writeups provoke Observer!

The piece below was published by the Daily Observer in reaction to Mr.Scales on going writing series, most importantly his recent posting critical of Dr.Taal. Please read the below piece, which appeared to be an official reaction. Perhaps, Mr.Scales will come in to rebuff the writier's claims. Please read on...

Editor,
I am on the one hand bewildered and on other flagabasted by this English man by the name of Michael Scales who wasted energy, time, and efforts to paint a false, cruel, malicious and fallacious image of Dr. Taal, the Observer Company, Managing Director, President Jammeh and the whole country at large. I think he was merely hallowing and wallowing in self deception which ultimately showed in his article and subsequently rendered and exposed the falacy of his imaginary article. Unluckily for him we are no fools. And if this is what Mr. Scales thought we are then he has succeeded in raising his myopic and arrogant thoughts, consequently, casting a doubt on his intellectuality, academic honesty and henceforth exposing his own short sightedness.

ost appealing about the whole scenario is his claim of being a defendant of the Gambia and Gambians. Are Gambians so indefensive so as to wait for someone to defend them? Better still, how could a man whose country abused, exploited and degenerated half of the globe for more than three hundred years stand to be the defendant of tiny country like the Gambia? If there is anything interesting in his article, it is obviously this one. Certainly, I would think that if he wants work for himself, this is enough for him. In fact the exploitative world system which is largely as a result of the consequences of the system created by his own country is enough to keep him preoccupied and busy.

Dr. Taal is a Gambian of high academic caliber and timbre. He is one of those few Gambians who have decided to forgo western riches and flashy ways of life to sacrifice for his country. His contributions to national development are enormous and vivid for all to see and bear witness. I for one have known Dr Taal for many years now and so I no better than this Mr. Scales who Dr. Taal is. In fact, the interesting part of it all is that Dr. Taal has never met this English fellow who claims to know him. If such a man can make such false statements, who are we to believe him?

If Mr Scales want cheap publicity and popularity, he should do it in a decent way not in a witch hunting manner. We have been told time and time again that ‘DO NOT BELIEVE FALSE WITNESS AGAINST THY NEIGHBOUR.’ And the fact that he has wished ill of his fellow human being tells everything about him. And for his information, Dr. Taal is a hardworking fellow who believes in productivity. This is what he has brought to the Observer Company. He has made Observer more productive, creative, open minded and ethical. This we know fully well more than any other person.

My initial reaction to the Presidents shake up of the judiciary-Michael Scales!
Wednesday, April 04, 2007 (416 reads)

By Michael Scales, UK

Dear Mr.Editor,
The objective of a free press is not only to critisise, but to inform and where appropriate be generous with praise.I welcome your report on the Presidents lack of patience with the judiciary and his displeasure at the absense of urgency awarded to due process of law, for which fundamental human rights are compromised.Bravo ! Mr.President !
Your further report on the downturn of interest in The Banjul Observer ,must surely fall squarely on  the round shoulders of my auld aquaintance..Dr.Sajah Taal. This intinerant come back boy surely has more lives than a cheshire cat.In the competitive world of print media , the requirement for credibility and truth are the spearhead of transparency.A change of leadership at the Observer would therefore be most welcome.
May i take this oppertunity to praise the work of The First Lady .Her efforts for the welfare of The Gambia;s Children does her much credit and enhances the Nation with her poise and elegance.
In my earlier editorial ,i suggested the right signals are needed to the Democratic World.I believe i can hear them ..loud and clear.......

More Surprises from Jammeh

The Gambian leader would be always unfailing in pulling surprises. Dr. Jammeh today made a surprise announcement that he has also now found a cure to diabetes and four of his family members have in fact responded to his treatment. For Mr. Jammeh, the treatment of diabetes is less cumbersome than Aids as it can be easily treated. He pointed out that he is now poised to put his knowledge into good use by administering cure to the diabetics. He however pointed out that his treatment sessions would not be covered by Grts, adding that anyone wishing to receive treatment could go to the nearest health
facility for examination and subsequently the country`s main referral hospital in Banjul.
