Breaking news:Coup suspect MP Demba Dem says he was nearly tortured to death by his captives! Wednesday, May 23, 2007 (941 reads)
By Our Chief National Correspondent Landing Badjie, Banjul.
Paid for and Commissioned by the Freedom Newspaper.
The former National Assembly member for Niani, Demba Dem, today made harrowing revelations at the High Court in Banjul as their trial on suspicion of attempting to overthrow the APRC administration on March 21 of last year continues. In his testimony before a packed courtroom of friends, families and acquaintances, Mr Dem recalled that he was at the time of the alleged foilcoup in Jenoi village where he was attending a workshop. However, he said, on 29 March 2006, he was at the National Assembly chambers where he was approached by three plain-clothed officers who informed him that he was under arrest. He pointed out that he was whisked away to Mile II the same day and taken to the maximum security wing of the prison.

Jammeh Wade
By Serg PMJ Banjul.
Dear Editors,
As I am writing this piece, two separate batches of six top National Intelligence Agency officials have been dispatch to the Senegalese Capital Dakar for a possible secret operation of abducting the fugitive Gambian soldiers. The soldiers under their target are Colonel Ndure Cham, Captain Sana Sabally, Major Kalipha Bajinka and Lt Yankuba Badjie. Although the first three are currently residing in Senegal, the Agency did not know that Lt Badjie as been granted an asylum by a Western country sometimes last year. The two groups will be staying in separate locations in the city. Although it is not clear to me where Group A is going to stay, I know for certain that Group B are going to stay in Liberté 6. Their mission is to track the dissident soldiers to their residences and possibly kidnap them. The two groups will be using Gambian Diplomatic cars and will be sub-divided into groups of three and will be putting the Amnesty International- Senegalese office, RADHO, UNHCR and the Senegalese Interior Ministry under surveillance to be able to track these people.

As Lamrana Jallow's pieces triggers reactions-Associate Editor Jawara say people should not condemn Lama! Monday, May 21, 2007 (465 reads)
By Associate Editor Muhammed Jawara, New York
On Lamarana, Sam and Jabang.
I enjoy sitting back and reading the former military officers throwing punches at each other. In my opinion, the debate about the allegations levelled against Sam Sarr are legitimate issues of public discourse. I think Mr. Sarr has performed as expected, giving his own side of the story. Whether we beleive him or not is a dfferent matter altogether.
Growing up in the late nineties, i have always seen people like Sam Sarr and Bubacar Sankanu as inspirationalal for diffrent reasons. Having said that, i have one or two points of observation about editor Jabang's reaction to what what he considers Lamarana's senseless pieces. "That Suwaibou Conateh of Gambia News and Report Magazine was held at gun point by Sam Sarr to "write a coup statement" for the military junta in July of 1994. Mr.Lamarana Jallow, I am not disputing that Mr. Conateh might have been held at gun point by the junta but, it certainly does not make sense that it was about "write a coup statement". What about this allegation does not make sense? Do you have any information contrary to this claim, if so what is it? With all the due respect, just because something does not make sense to you does not equate it to utter senselessness. True, Yahya Jammeh might be able to write a coup statements, yet he may use someone else's experience with addressing a large audience where Swaibou could be significnat. Again, am not trying to legitimise Lamarana's wild allegations in any way.

Breaking News:Gambian police never gave me a fake pistol registration number-says Editor Jallow Monday, May 21, 2007 (606 reads)
.jpg)
SGT.Sana Majang's pistol that was left at the Independent!
The Managing Editor of the Independent Newspaper Alagi Yorro Jallow, is denying local Newspaper reports that the Gambian police gave him a faked pistol serial number, with regards to the fire bomb incident , which gutted his paper’s newly acquired printing press. Mr.Jallow who is currently residing in the US describes such reports as not only misleading, but totally unfounded. The award winning journalist who is currently reading Journalism in the United States, maintains that his paper personally recorded the serial number of the said pistol that was abandoned in their printing press by one of the attackers Sana Manjang. Mr.Jallow describes such media publicity as a mere propaganda to conceal the truth from the Gambian population. He says there was no iota of truth into the said story. "That's not true. The gun was dropped by Sana Manjang. My Production Manager was able to lay his hand on the gun, which was kept until the following morning. Our photography took pictures of the gun before it was handed over to the police. The serial number is right. No one gave me a wrong serial number as reported by a local online paper. We copied the serial number by ourselves. The said gun was handed to the police CMC Abdou Njie. Anyone who believes that I was given a faked serial number, well I describe that person as a dishonest person and a liar. May be they don't know that this gun was kept and pictured before it was handed to the police. The reason why I handed it over to the gun was to help the police in their investigations as to who owns the gun and where the gun comes from.”said Editor Jallow.According to Editor Jallow, one of the attackers Sana Majang sustained burns as a result of the fire bomb, which devastated the Independent. Jallow says Majang left his hand pistol behind with the registration number MABP.15 NO.15PXT0294 . Mr.Jallow wondered how some people can be so dishonest and economical with the truth to the extent of trying to bury the naked truth. He says his paper had material evidence which linked Major Bajinka, Sana Manjang and others into the incident. He says despite repeated promises made by the Gambian police to prosecute the suspects, no serious efforts had been made so far to bring the culprits to justice. Jallow told the Freedom Newspaper in interview that the Independent Newspaper arson attack case file was gathering dust at the office of the Inspector General of police in Banjul.

Colonel Sarr will never react to the Guinean counter coup story-Lamarana Jallow- BB Darboe, Saihou Sabally, Press Jagne others named!! Sunday, May 20, 2007 (847 reads)
.jpg)
Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara in the news again!!
By Lamara Jallow, son of the Gambia.
Dear Mr. Editor,
Thanks for the concerns raised by Associate Editor Yankuba Jambang. Jambang should hold tide, as the accused Colonel Sarr is concealing the truth from Gambians. Lets give Sam the benefit of the doubt to clear his image. Sam needs to clear his image over the allegations regarding the Guinean troops assigned to him by Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara to restore his government back to power. Sam would be the last person to deny the said allegations. This was a classified file known to few people in Jawara’s government. The unsuspecting immature coupists at time were totally out of touch. Jammeh himself was not in the picture. The people in the know then were Colonel Sarr, Bakary Bunja Darboe, Lamin Kaba Bajo, former head of the Presidential guards, the Guinean President Alansana Conteh, Sir Dawda and Lang Tombong Tamba, the current Chief of Defense staff. A senior Aide to Jawara told me that the Guineans attempted to land in Senegal but were denied Landing space. These were well trained "parasuiters." President Jawara is here to colloborate my story. BB Darbo is here to deny or confirm Lamarana’s story. If he is really honest he cannot deny this. Look, I’m not looking for fame by unveiling such stories. Had Sam Sarr not started the debate, I was not going to comment on the matter. I was waiting for the day when Jammeh is tied up and place before the courts, then I will submit my name to any enquiry set up to probe the APRC to testify. I'm ready to expose more details before any court of law if Jammeh's government is rendered history. For benefit of your readers, the information I released so far is just the tip of the iceberg. For the sake of decency, I refrained from exposing certain dossiers currently in my hands. If I pass these dossiers to the Freedom Newspaper, I have no doubt in my mind that Sir Dawda’s relationship with Jammeh would be soured. I think that that is why Colonel Sarr is not reacting any more to my allegations, based on these reasons. He must have been cautioned by friends, family members or even Sir Dawda to avoid engaging me into debate. I have been on the ground closely monitoring the activities before and after the July 22ND coup. Sam might brag that he documented a lot of information about the AFPRC/APRC, Lamarana too has gathered a lot of classified state secrets, when released many Gambians would be shocked. The Freedom Newspaper is doing a good job and I’m ready to share some of these information with them. I like the paper because it’s the only independent paper today in the Gambia. This is the only paper providing Gambians unbaised news. We are more comfortable talking to you than the Observer. Your paper is read by the President on a daily basis even though he dislikes your editorial stance.
