Prose:Thought not caught-Gambia Can.
Monday, July 30, 2007 (193 reads)

Authored by Essa Bokarr SEY.

Here comes a character in this movie within a mind. This character is walking along the paths of our land wearing a  "simbong" on the character's head is a dusty "sumbuyaa". The more the heat hits, the faster this character walks on the sandy paths. Please do not give up hang in there just follow the character... This is an image of our time, called a farmer. This is an image of our time, called a voter. This is an image of our time, called a rural son of the land.

The more the heat hits, the faster this character walks on the sandy paths. Please do not give up hang in there just follow the character... This is an image of our time, called a farmer. This is an image of our time, called a voter. This is an image of our time, called a rural son of the land.
What a helpless character! It is beaten, baffled, duped, promised and failed. From 1965 to now this character has been walking along an endless path. Heaps of speeches. Are we spitting on this character or hitting the character where it pains more? Who are we? The book men and women of a sour time? Teacher said:"Oral history is not good history?" Is that really true teacher? I stand to challenge you my dear teacher. Teacher! every speech or text starts from thought. Is thought written? Who says what before? Did we ever receive a letter from Vasco Dagama? Who told us about him? Telling is oral teacher! Sure it is!
This is why I want you to lend me your ears while am narating my character's story. How many times has this character heard oaths?Oaths upon oaths! The character still loaths those who repeat these endless oaths.
Listen to the first mouth...."I Dr cunning do solemnly swear that I will till the land with smiles and styles...." Next on the line who is that?! Listen to this mouth too..."I soldier do harm do solemnly swear that I will spill blood on the land with shredding threats.."
Who is next?! Listen to this mouth..."I civil servant zero sum game do swear that I will cheat the character as much as I can with the knowledge derived from my written history!"
"Ooo-raa-chaa"!!! Giggling in a cosy office while the character is still walking along the path.
There is this inner voice thats swearing near me...Listen to the inner voice..."Aham!...I the freaky cheat do solemnly swear that I will only dispute the truth, say the partial truth and nothing more than leaving a vacuum in the helpless character's mind..."
"Grrrrrrrrrrrr" Oh No! character! You are so helpless and hopeless.
Your peanuts are called ground nuts because the real prices of those tons always stay underground.... This is where the character decided to send a child to school. School does not fool those ready to pull. School baffles those fools in wool.
Once upon a time I heard a wise man say..."Gambia Can!"
This made a child from the village spew some stanzas again... Here they go!

Gambia Can.
Gambia can't?
Can you?
Who says I can't?
Can't I?
Counting the cans of promises isn't opening a can of worms!
There are deadly worms in this field of treachery.
So Gambia can you?
Yes I can without the freaky cheats!
Weep not child! Weep not!
Weep not character! Weep not!
I had a balad with Gambia along the plateau of Africa!
Gambia guarded legal jealousy because she felt sad and bad.
This jealousy is legal because success was seen some where else.
The apex of a mountain of hope shouldn't be aneasthesia.
Why are we so numb?
Isn't the character being shattered?
Creeping freaks are worse than sleeping vipers!
Dear Seigneur "Peresidente"! Did you really mean well?

The character is taking over from the village boy again. Poetry or the laws of chastity...all we want is the truth. The whole truth and nothing but the truth. Save us O God! Thats it!
The character is asking why was that data kept? Does every Gambian know the truth?
Here we go again! Is this a one man show? Here we go again! Does every critic see the person in Seigneur "Peresidente"? Cheap route! Not all critics hate! Hate is so late in this mind "Sah"....  This reminds me about what a Moscovite said during the red days..."Nothing new means nothing good!" Thank you very much! Thinker! Thank you! One more thing thinker! This is why critics are not crickets!

Lt.Colonel Fofana Absconds!!!

Army Spokesman says Fofana deserted the Force following the completion of his overseas military course!!

By Justice Sam and Landing Badjie, Our Banjul Bureau Chief

Leaks from the Army main Command in Banjul say Lt. Colonel Commander Sarjo Fofana  might have possibly absconded,  following the completion of his overseas military course.  Fofana who was supposed to report to duty two weeks ago,  never showed up to work, GAF dependable and trusted sources told the Freedom Newspaper. Commander Fofana  used to head the Gambia Naval Command and was also the President of recently constituted Court Martial, which condemned Captain Bunja Darboe and others to life imprisonment. Fofana's disappearances is a subject of discussion at the GAF Head Quarters in Banjul. Concerns are being raised in some quarters that he might as well be implicated in the March abortive coup, which he was hired to decide the fate of coup suspects. Insiders at the GAF Head Quarters say Colonel Fonfana has since lost contact with his colleagues amidst speculations that he absconded.

Breaking News:Welligara looting spree- Dozens of women arrested for defying Jammeh's" forced" cleaning decree!
Sunday, July 29, 2007 (722 reads)

By Justice Sam and Landing Badjie our Banjul Bureau Chief

At least dozens people have been detained by the Gambian police for merely defying President Yahya Jammeh's "clean the nation" call. A major scuffle ensued at the Welligara Market, Kombo North on Saturday, when armed police and paramilitary officers tried to use force to disperse the market women. The Market women refused to close their stalls as they insist that Jammeh's "forced slavery" in the name of cleaning the nation must come to an end. The women were busy attending their early morning customers who stormed the market as early as 7 o clock.  An order issued by the police for the women to vacate the market premises to join the local community to clean the streets of Welligara was ignored by the petty traders. A reinforcement armed paramilitary team  later arrived at the scene, where they forcefully beat up, maimed and arrest anybody found loitering around the market area. During  the process of the fracas, monies were looted and there was significant damage to property.

By: Jadama Sadibu   (Stockholm Sweden)

Any casual observer of the past  and present political scene in  the Gambia who happens to be a patriot ought to be worried about what is going on amongst the Gambian leadership today. By leadership I am not talking only about political leaders, I have in mind the generality of leadership in the
Gambia encompassing all adults, technocrats, heads of institutions and agencies, civil servants and religious groups including chiefs and the Alkalos. Well If I may ask, what is going on within those we call the leaders of our dear Republic?
