Breaking News:The Whole World Can Go To Hell-Desperate President Jammeh tells Supporters!
Monday, September 25, 2006 (951 reads)

"Let me tell you one thing. The whole world can go to hell. If I want to ban any newspaper, I will, with good reason," Jammeh said late on Saturday, dressed in his trademark white robes and holding a Koran and ceremonial sword.
"This is Africa and this is the Gambia, a country where we have very strong African moral values. ... If you write Yahya is a thief, you should be ready to prove it in a court of law. If that constitutes lack of press freedom, then I don't care."said President Jammeh. Below is the full text of the piece published by the Reuters News Agency.

The Gambia Heading To One Party State-Elections Results Suggest! Halifa tells BBC that there was voter apathy but did not reject  the elections yet

The Opposition Rejects Jammeh's Victory-As Reports Suggest A Possible Showdown and Also A Legislative Elections Boycott....

What Did The Future Holds For Gambians- We Investigate-As Jammeh Throw A Beach Party For Jubilant Supporters...

          EDITORIAL
Across the country shock and disbelief gripped the opposition leaders and their supporters. The Gambian people have spoken again. President Yahya Jammeh has been announced as the winner of Friday's Presidential elections. He captured over 65 percent of the votes while his arch opponent Ousainou Darboe emerged with shocking results with 27 percent. Darboe's popularity went down dramatically compared to his past electoral performances. First time Presidential hopeful Halifa Sallah got only 6 percent out of the total votes counted. The former British colony, The Gambia  is no doubt heading to one party state. Jammeh's 67 percent electoral victory is a threat to the opposition with barely few weeks to the legislative elections. As I piece this write up together, news came in that the United Democratic Party led alliance have decided at an executive meeting today to reject the outcome of the elections. The alliance also called on President Jammeh to step down from power. All indications suggest that the UDP alliance would boycott the National Assembly elections in view of their  latest move to reject the elections results. If the UDP led alliance happens to boycott the legislative elections, then the country would be in big problem politically. Remember that this is the biggest opposition party in the Gambia and their non participation in future elections means a major blow to our fragile democratic process.

Breaking News:Commonwealth Observer Chief Raises Concern over the conduct of security forces-
Saturday, September 23, 2006 (1085 reads)

"A Presidential Election is a process. We have been made to be aware of events in the lead up to the Election Day which might have impacted on the outcome.  The timing of the President’s Dialogue with the People Tour and the open demonstration of support by public officers for a particular party, especially those in the security services, have the potential of affecting the level of the playing field. These as well as other manifestations of abuse of incumbency will be considered and form a part of our overall judgement on the entire process. This election was held amidst the background of a Commonwealth brokered Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for political parties as concluded on 2 September 2005. That understanding created an atmosphere conducive for the strengthening of the democratic process in The Gambia. Significantly, all the political parties who have met with us declared their recognition of and support for the MOU. It is nonetheless a fact that the MOU has not been adhered to. It is our considered judgement that whatever the outcome of the election, in the interest of stability, understanding and cooperation, the political parties should endeavour to adhere to the spirit and letter of the MOU."said a statement issued by the  head of the Commonwealth observer team to the Gambia Dr.Salim. Below is full text of the Commonwealth interim-report on Friday's elections sent to the Freedom Newspaper by the observers. Please read on..

Breaking News:APRC'S Yahya Jammeh Sweeps The Polls- Doubts Surround His Victory!!
Friday, September 22, 2006 (5229 reads)

Shock and disbelief gripped Presidential hopeful Ousainou Darboe and NADD'S Halifa Sallah, as a strange voter pattern hits the nation with the APRC'S Yahya Jammeh sweeping almost all the polling stations across the West African country. In what was widely described as a rude shock defeat  against the opposition by President Jammeh with an alleged reports of  clandestine registration of non Gambians from the Southern Province of Casamance and dead voters infested  the IEC'S main register, doubts are being raised across the country about the legitimacy of Jammeh's victory. Many people in the streets of Banjul and its surroundings suspected a major voter fraud designed by the regime to pave way for Jammeh's re-election. But on the other hand, Jammeh supporters insist that the victory was the verdict of the people and were ready to go ahead with their planned victory celebrations. What beat the imagination of many was Jammeh's latest move to take over major opposition strongholds for the first time since he came to power through a coup. The disintegrated opposition are yet to publicly react to these major political developments unfolding in the former British colony. It appears that the Gambia is on the road to full blown one party state, as Friday's election results speaks volumes. Political observers warned that if the same trend continues in the legislative election which are due soon, then the country would like join one party state countries. International observers from the Commonwealth were yet to issue a report on the outcome of the elections. Below is the breakdown of the election results. Please read on...

Breaking News: IEC Surprises The Nation, As It  Extends Voting to 6:3o

Polling Stations Reduced To Ghost Centres-As Voters Are  No Where To Be Seen.....

              By Our Roving Reporter

In a surprising move the Independent Electoral Commission has just issued a statement extending the voting time schedule of closing of polling to 6:30 instead of 4 o'clock Gambian time even though people are no longer showing up to vote. Most polling stations have been reduced to ghost stations as people are hardly seen. The time extension made by the IEC has sent some eyebrows in the country. Some suspects that the electoral body was posed to compromise its independence by compromising the original closing time schedule announced. Many believed that the IEC was playing double standards by extending the time.

Earlier, in the day  heavy rains and wind disrupted the polling, as people left polling stations for their respective homes. Many people who spoke to our reporter says the IEC failed to meet the expectations of Gambians by not  conducting a free and fair elections. Reports have it that undocumented voters were allowed to vote even though the names of such voters never appeared on the main electoral register.

Breaking News:Heavy Rains Disrupts Gambia's Presidential Elections!

Polling Agents Closely Watched Ballot Boxes To Avoid Vote Rigging....

Over 6000 Casamance voters intercepted at the Giboro Border?

By A Staff Writer

Heavy rains have disrupted Gambia's voting as polling stations are temporarily closed for now. Polling stations which were made of cartons are likely to be destroyed by the heavy rains and wind. Our correspondent covering the elections say many voters have left for home as there was no place they could seek for cover under the heavy rains. Ballot boxes were being heavily guarded as the polling agents closely watched the boxes to avoid any possible rigging. Meanwhile reports reaching the Freedom Newspaper say over 6000 guest voters from the Southern Province of Casamance were intercepted along the Gambia/Senegalese border by the Senegalese security forces. The voters who tried to snick into the English speaking country were stopped by the border patrol guards. Reports have it that the 6000 Casamance natives were intercepted at Giboro border post. Their plans to make a last minute showdown in the Gambia were frustrated as they were repelled back by the Senegalese border guards. Senegal has closed its border to prevent Southern Casamance natives from meddling into Gambia's local politics.

Darboe, Jammeh and Sallah Voted

APRC Supporters Causes Confusion At A Talinding Polling Station, As Undocumented Voters Forced Their Way To Vote

Jammeh Says No Coups Or Elections Can Remove Him From Power-As He Threatens To Deal With His Opponents If He Comes Back....

                       By Our Roving Reporter

Gambians started lining up in polling stations as early 7 o'clock. Voters lined up patiently while waiting to cast their votes. United Democratic Leader Ousainou Darboe was escorted by jubilant party supporters to vote at the Sabina polling station in Fajara. Speaking to reporters Darboe shortly casting his vote sounded optimistic of sweeping polls if the elections went free and fair. Accompanied by a cheering crowd Darboe maintains that it was time for a regime change in the Gambia and was confident of defeating his opponent President Jammeh. NADD'S Halifa Sallah voted in Serre-Kunda where he was escorted by party supporters. Like Darboe, Sallah was also equally confident of winning the elections. Sallah's supporters openly pledged their support for the politician  while waiting for Sallah to cash his vote.  For Yahya Jammeh, he voted in Banjul, where he insists that no coups or elections can remove him from power. The Gambian leader has openly told Gambians that whether they voted for him or not he was here to rule the tiny West African country for another decades. Shortly after casting his vote, Jammeh quickly left and later settled at the state house where he is waiting to hear the announcement of the results. In one of his political rallies prior to the voting Jammeh  issued a warning to Gambians. He says he has been very patience with Gambians for the past 12 years, but vows to  deal with his opponents when he comes back to power. Jammeh told his supporters that he will not tolerate no nonsense from anybody while he insisting that he will have zero tolerance for his opponents.

Ex Bakau MP Dembo Byforce Accuses the Soldiers Led By Lang Tombong Tamba And The IEC Of Rigging  The Polls In Bakau...

          By A Staff Writer

Former Bakau MP Dembo Bojang alias Dembbyforce has accused the Independent Electoral Commission of voter fraud by allowing over 2000 soldiers from various barracks in the country to vote in Bakau even though they were not legally registered in that opposition stronghold constituency. Speaking to the Freedom Newspaper, Mr.Bojang says the soldiers mainly from Farafenni, Kudang, Basse, Yundum, Bakau and other barracks forced their way into the ten polling stations in Bakau to cast their votes. Bojang who appeared very upset with this state of affairs told our reporter that the soldiers were led by army chief of staff Lang Tombong Tamba. According to the former popular MP the Bakau polls had been rigged in advance in view of the voter fraud perpetrated by the unregistered soldiers in his locality.

Gambians To Change Jammeh Today Through Democratic means!

Jammeh's Plans To Leave Office Violently Can Averted By Popular Vote....

The Race For The State House In High Gears!!

EDITORIAL

newpanderry1.jpgToday is the D day for Gambia's much talked about Presidential elections. Three candidates are vying for the Presidency, Messrs incumbent President Yahya Jammeh, UDP'S Ousainou Darboe and Halifa Sallah of NADD. By mid-night Gambian time, a new President would be named by the chairman of Independent Electoral Commission. This year's race would be interesting. Interesting in the sense that so many things had happened under Jammeh's watch in a span of 12 years. Rights abuses, extra judicial killings, disappearances and torture of political detainees has been the order of the day. The regime is also being hunted by many unfulfilled promises to its people. Today, the Gambian people have the opportunity to effect regime change without any blood shed. Let play by the democratic culture during the voting period. Parties running for the presidency should be honest and humble enough to respect the wishes and aspiration of the Gambian people. Anything sort of this, would be unacceptable. Let justice guide our actions and be ready to accept change. Despots like Jammeh have no place in any civilized world. Jammeh should remember that the will of the people is more powerful than his hired killers. We expect Jammeh to be humble enough to concede defeat if any of the opposition leaders emerge victorious. Jammeh should give up his calculated plan to use Casamance guest voters to facilitate his so called victory. In a free, fair and transparent elections, Jammeh cannot make it this time around. The entire country are upset with him. Jammeh is a threat development and world peace. He got to go in the interest of national reconciliation and development.

Is The State Accusing Halifa Sallah Of Voter Fraud? Is Sallah's Nomination Valid At This Hour??

Is The State Accusing Halifa Sallah  Of Voter Fraud?

Buba Sanyang Claims Against Halifa Sallah Are Very, Very Damaging At This Hour...

The State Is Saying That Halifa's Nomination Was Invalid!

EDITORIAL

With barely few hours to the Friday's polls, it appears that the nomination of NADD'S flag bearer Halifa Sallah is being doubted with the recent revelations that one of his party supporters Buba Sanyang was caught with signed nomination documents, while he Sanyang posed as an official of the IEC. The IEC is mute over the issue, but this latest developments will no doubt have an adverse effect on Halifa's bid for the Presidency. The state is trying to claim that Halifa's nomination was done under false pretense with Sanyang parading as an IEC official while soliciting people to sign Halifa's nomination papers. While the State is using the might of the public media to delegitimize Halifa's nomination, it is imperative to note that the timing of Buba's so called confession speaks volumes at this hour. The minds of Halifa's  fans had been polluted with the state propaganda that Halifa sends Buba to scout for people to facilitate his nomination. Such revelations would likely influence the electoral support base for Halifa as many voters are  currently questioning the legitimacy of his nomination. In short, the state is implying that Sallah's nomination was fraudulent. Even though Halifa had denied being a party to Sanyang's alleged vote hooding malpractices, what is clear is that the state is hell bent on undermining his credibility with these damaging stories of voter fraud.
