Economic Defects of Bad Governance in Gambia Monday, November 27, 2006 (454 reads)
Economic Defects of Bad Governance in Gambia
By Sarjo Bayang
Governance and economic livelihood relate in very critical ways. Efficient political leaders command the ability to deliver sound economic programmes where resources are adequately allocated for gainful results. On the reverse, inefficient political leaders fail to deliver for sustainable economic outcomes. The irony in Gambia is that our president and those holding for him depend on the economic system for their self gains while they lack commitment and willingness to allow the economy grow. In the absence of sound economic policies, the Gambia’s military regime resorts to compilation of colourful documents based on wild dreams that they know will never yield. The Vision 2020 which is a corrupted concept borrowed from established sources holds no grips for moving the Gambian economy forward. The economy is in deed moving, but backwards, and rapidly so. It was president Jammeh himself who declared in one of his gutful utterances that Vision 2020 is not on track. What is more baffling is that while the Gambia’s economy is falling almost beyond revival, president Jammeh’s financial and material empire is growing like fat pig fed on rotten food. Yes, Jammeh is feeding on the Gambian economy, him growing, our economy draining to decline.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-GAMTEL a sad case-Theft,Mismanagement,Nepotism-No more hope! Sunday, November 26, 2006 (1109 reads)
Nepotism at GAMTEL-It is not enough...Omar Ndow and the Director of GAMCELL are scape goats
Omar Ndow is gone but his ghosts should not leave some GAMTEL officials behind. There are worse eggs within GAMTEL that are yet to be touched why? or why not?It is so simple an answer.Pa Gaye is the husband of the secretary of state for information and techonogy Neneh Mcdold-Gaye. That is the answer. Pa Gaye is far more qualified to be fired and jailed than Omar Ndow,if one is to go by the professional and technical needs of GAMTEL. This means any man or woman heading a department like Pa Gaye's cannot simply be going home every evening, when all land lines and cell phones in The Gambia are not functioning. How on earth could Pa Gaye have escaped President Jammeh's wrath if his darling was not running the show? How?

How power corrupts President Yaya Jammeh: - The rise from a ragamuffin soldier to a millionaire head of State.
By: - Abdoukarim Sanneh, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom
It was in the early morning of 22nd July when our people wake up to do their daily chores, that announcement came over the Radio Gambia of take over of Government by rank and file members of Gambian Armed Force. The unrealistic dream of many Gambians was that this was the day for their redemption but in the hearts and mines of the criminals in uniform, this was the day they won a jackpot over our nation’s coffers. The man know to be leading the event was a poor lieutenant called Yaya Jammeh who have now change his name, spelling into Arabism fashion as’ Yahya Jammeh’. Yaya Jammeh with both animist past and Christian upbringing is today a self confessed Islamic fundamentalist swearing with Holy Quran in all his political meetings.

DAKAR, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese businessman was freed on Friday after being held hostage for nearly three days in Gambia's capital Banjul, Gambian TV reported.

Under the instruction of President Yahya Jammeh, the police conducted a thorough search for Xu and the suspects, setting up checkpoint at each crossroad leading to downtown Banjul from the airport.
As China has no diplomatic relations with Gambia, the Chinese embassy in neighboring Senegal had asked the Gambian embassy to Senegal to take urgent measures to trace down the kidnappers and guarantee the safety of the Chinese citizen.
Xu is in good condition, according to the TV report. After the incident, the Gambia government has pledged to tighten security to protect the lives and properties of foreigners.

Gambia and the continuum of illegal detention without trial: - What is wrong with the rule of law?
By: - Abdoukarim Sanneh Greater Manchester, UK
Gambians are living under the time of the butcher bird. The corrupt, brutal and totalitarian rule of Yaya Jammeh is second to known in our continent. Every Gambian knows that the regime of Yaya Jammeh has blood in its hands. But yet the dictator, with his self style arrogance keep confessing that Gambia is his personal property, pounding his chest that he did not believe in killings but can detain our fellow citizens till when they become useless to the society then he can release them as destitute. This was the remark of Yaya Jammeh in an interview with Reuters News Agency which was featured in the online edition of National Newspaper of Scotland-The Scotsman. For many like me and many more critics, it an illusion and it is the same madness that he keeps manifesting, but we all know about skeletons in the cupboards and it recorded in the history of our country.
