Monday, November 26, 2007 (801 reads)

By Binneh s Minteh

The consequent and precipitous impact of a collapsing state has always been an enduring fact of human affairs. Even before the inception of the Westphalia state system in the 17th century, numerous state formations in the Americas, Asia, Europe and Africa emerged and collapsed. In the case of modern day Africa, the root causes ranged from “internal imperatives” triggered by issues such as widespread human rights abuses, institutionalization of ethnicity, corruption, the systematic appraisal of impunity, and spotlighting by the radar of trans-national civil society. Current events in the Gambia are a testament to the above mentioned validity.

A Failed Leader Versus A Failed Gambian State-Part One!!

There is no doubt in our mind that the Gambia is a failed state. A state, where hopelessness, desperation, economic decadence, fear and unrest is the order of the day. A state, where political freedoms and liberties are curtailed. While poverty stricken Gambians are struggling day in day out for their survival, our President is paying less attention to pressing state matters. Mr.Jammeh spent his five year mandate on idle activities, whilst the average Gambian is dying of hunger by the day. By all standards, President Jammeh is an idle leader, who have no vision for The Gambia . He is not only a liability to The Gambia and her people, but a useless leader who is bent on diverting people’s attention on pressing state matters.
