There appears to be no end in sight to the continued sufferings of a number of Gambians living in exile in the neighbouring Senegal as many struggles with hard economic and turbulent financial times. Senegal is a home to a multitude of Gambians, who fled the country, to seek sanctuary in the neighbouring country for fear of persecution in the hands of the Jammeh government.The exiles include journalists, former soldiers and officers of the Gambia Armed Forces, ex-NIA operatives, politicians and human rights activists.

NIA Refuses To Release Assets Of Former Detainees!!!

The National Intelligence Agency, NIA, is yet to react to blistering criticisms that the agency is still with-holding the personal effects and other properties of people who were detained at its headquarters in Banjul for one reason or another. Many, who have transitioned at the agency's detention centre at the old GPMB offices on Col. Muamar Ghadafi Road but subsequently released, have complained to Freedom newspaper about the agency's recalcitrance to return them their properties that were seized from them at the time of their arrests and subsequent detention. Among things that the agency stands accused of extorting from the victims of NIA detention, which was concomitant with torture and other inhumane treatments, include money, wrist watches, vehicles and valuable documents.

….NIA Agent Says The President Has A Special Interest In Abdoukarim’s Arrest!!!

An advance party team, consist of personnel of the National Intelligence Agency and state guard solders, are currently on standby duty at the Banjul International Airport, patiently awaiting to receive Abdoukarim Sanneh, a fierce critic of President Jammeh, who is currently placed on deportation hearing by the UK Government, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The NIA agents have been on an heightened alert, following news reports that Mr. Sanneh has been billed to attend a 72 hours fast track deportation hearing by the British Government. If Deported, Mr. Sanneh is likely to be killed or  jailed for life, well placed intelligence sources in Banjul informed the Freedom Newspaper. Sources said the advance team have been assigned to arrest and detain Abdoukarim Sanneh, as soon as he touches the Gambian soil. The President Yahya Jammeh was said to have ordered the security agents to embark on standby duty pending the determination of the removal proceedings instituted against Sanneh by the British Home office.

Unspecified sources in the UK confirmed the presence of Journalist Fatou Jaw Manneh, in England. The journalist who was found guilty on sedition charges, was made to pay exorbitant court fines before she could regain her  freedom. Sources said the journalist is on a brief family visit to the UK. Fatou Jaw Manneh is a journalist, cum political activist. Her arrest and subsequent prosecution attracted a lot of local and international attention. She migrated to Dakar, Senegal immediately after her case.

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh said he will interfere in the nation’s judicial system, if the matter touches on state interest. “ America and the West, which often bragged of being the bastion of the world’s democracy interfered in their countries judicial system. This type of trend is very common in the West. If leaders like us sought to interfere in our judicial system, they would brand us as “ dictators.” This is the height of western hypocrisy. I don’t care what they say, I will interfere in the judicial operation each time the state’s interest is threatened,.” Jammeh tells members of the judiciary on Thursday.  He was presiding over the swearing ceremony of  Justice Moses Richards and the newly hired Director of Public Prosecution  Chenge Richard.
