Now that Yahya Jammeh's latest twist vis-a-vis his grand style of hiring, firings and redeployment has finally taken off, lets analyse this social "force of thrust" once again. Physics says force of thrust describes motion where action and reaction produce results right? Hopefully we are not missing the essence of physics here because we are going to use it to diagnose a social stigma.

INTERESTING QUOTES FROM THE GPU SUMMIT

Alex Dacosta: Time for a new era. The constitution has outlived its usefulness. The executive should be able to replace lost members, because they have less members and volunteers, they lack support. Come back and bury our problems and move forward.Let’s be sensitive to each other’s needs. The GPU cyber café will not work because of its location. GPU needs to be revamped, refreshed and broaden its membership. Let us move away from blame games. Get rid of members who don’t participate.

A Living Mirror: The Life of Deyda Hydara, by Aloa Ahmed Alota and Demba Ali Jawo

Reviewed by Baba Galleh Jallow

When Deyda Hydara was shot dead by unknown assailants on the night of Thursday, December 16, 2004, many who knew the soft-spoken, stammering Founder Editor of The Point newspaper in Banjul wondered why? The why question was repeatedly asked not only because of the unnatural act of murder so foul inflicted upon Deyda, but because many who knew him thought he was not outspoken enough, hard-hitting enough, critical enough of the government of President Yahya Jammeh to be targeted for murder. Well, reading this new biography of Deyda Hydara cures one of any illusion as to just how outspoken, how brave, how hard-hitting, and how critical of the Jammeh regime Deyda was. He was indeed, in a very real sense, a big sharp thorn in the side of the regime, and particularly in the side of President Jammeh himself.

Breaking News: Daily Observer Reporter Buya Jammeh  Fired For Refusing To Resign From GPU Executive!!!

Dida Halake Ejects Buya Jammeh From Observer Premises Tuesday

Drama Unfolds At The Daily Observer, As Sacked Reporter Engages Halake Into Bitter Quarrel

By Justice Sam, Banjul

Following his refusal to heed to an official instruction from his boss Dida Halake to resign from the newly constituted Gambia Press Union Executive, a Daily Observer Staff Reporter Buya Jammeh is paying for the price of being defiant. Buya Jammeh's services with the Daily Observer has been terminated with immediate effect, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Dida Halake had earlier asked the journalist to resign for the new GPU Executive if he wants to keep his employment with the Daily Observer. But Jammeh refuses to heed to his boss's advise, as he tells Dida right into his  face that the days of slavery were over and that  he was not obliged to give up his GPU Executive Membership. Consequently, Buya Jammeh was denied entry into the Observer premises  when he showed up for work Tuesday. Observer staffers were taken aback by Dida Halake’s rude and crude conduct, as he forcefully ejected the poor reporter from Observer facility. “ No , go home. We do not want to see you here again. You have been sacked. This is the price of being stubborn. We told you to give up your position at the GPU, but you are not listening. Go home. Never come to the Daily Observer again.” Halake told Buya Jammeh.
