EDITORIAL:BE LOYAL TO THE GAMBIA AND NOT JAMMEH!!!
Thursday, April 27, 2006 (986 reads)

 daffur1.jpg

 EDITORIAL

The Gambian military is undergoing serious evolution these days. Jammeh is confused as who is loyal and who is not. Since the so called faked coup attempt, men of the army had been subjected to routine transfers, arrest, detention and in some occasions alleged execution. The fate of former NIA Chief and four other security detainees remain mysterious. This government is not keen at discussing the whereabouts of these feared dead detainees. Our Wednesday’s lead story on the death of soldier Ebrima Camara, speaks volume about the type of administration we have in Banjul. Camara we are told was murdered, following his refusal to be part of Yahya’s hit and kill style.

Response to Anonymous Lamin mail-Commentary

Lamin seems to be mad at me for reasons I do not know. But, that is O.K. He has a right to voice his opinion, and to vent his rage towards me. My only concern is that he may be doing this in collusion with the rats in the Jammeh camp. If that is the case, I can assure him one thing; he will never succeed in shifting my focus from the things I feel are important to our country. Getting Jammeh the hell out of The Gambia and back to Casamance where he belongs is my ultimate objective. Lamin can open his big mouth and say whatever nonsense he wants to say, he will never distract me from goal.

LETTERS FROM OUR READERS:Mathew a joke of humanity

                       BY LAMIN

Mr. Editor,
DA Jawo just reminded me, when Sheriff Bojang wrote his famous piece "The rebel...", I was in my studies in UK. That was typical of Mathew. I have known Mathew for a while, and it is obvious that he cannot make permanent friends. The same that happened to him when he was to be promoted to a regional director, he was busy being a tribalist. People know he can write, but writing must be accompanied with common sense. I wonder if staff writer Omar Njie will further question him about his intoxicated nature all the time. No wonder, he must have been drunk when he was uttering such irresponsible statements. I worked with him a year and half. The guy just don't have a headway. He is full of contradictions.

The ICC will Never Exonerate Lang Tombong, if he Continues to Remain Willfully Silent..

Dear Sir, Please find Space to publish my innocent views .

The ICC Will Never Exonerate Lang Tambong Tamba

               BY: Baati Jollof

Comrades, Countrymen and Countrywomen, hardly a day passes in our once peaceful country now a days, when you don't hear about the arrest of one soldier or the other, the arrest of a civilian or the continuous inhumane torture of the detainees, or worst still, the rumours of death among the soldiers of the armed forces or among those detained. Banjul is no longer what it used to be. It is strange that people don't even want to discuss what is happening, even when it involves our own sons who are being brutalized by a failing regime. The latest addition of Ebrima Camara to the "burial list" should be a concern for all Gambians. How much longer do we have to stand and keep quite while Yahya and his cronies of murderers continue to butcher and maim our innocent sons? "Someone will have to pay for the innocent blood that is shed everyday".

EDITORIAL:SIX INJURED CASAMANCE REBELS AT THE RVTH-OUR REACTION!!!
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 (452 reads)

   EDITORIAL

Our lead story on the six injured Casamance rebels hospitalized at the nation’s main hospital, the RVTH is a cause for concern. We have no problem with the government of the day providing health services to the sick, the injured and the disabled, but it should be done in an open and transparent manner. The Jammeh government risked once again been accused of aiding and abetting MFDC rebels, in view of the non announcement of the arrival of the injured MFDC fighters in our soil. The Gambia is a small country and it is going to be difficult to bury such cases under the carpet. Senegal is monitoring The Gambia very closely and this regime should allay fears raised in the past that it is harboring Casamance fighters.

The Rebel With A Cause-Commentary from DA Jawo
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 (629 reads)

Everyone Has A Role To Play

By Demba a Jawo,Former Gambia Press Union President

Mathew was once described by Sheriff Bojang in one of his profile columns as a "Rebel Without A Cause". However, from his interview with The Freedom newspaper, he seems to have proved to everyone that he indeed has a cause. I was quite impressed by his interview, even though I had a few areas I was not fully in agreement with him. One of those areas was his criticism of Halifa Sallah. I guess he does not know Halifa on a personal level because he is the most genuine politicians I have ever come across. He means every word he utters and there is absolutely no doubt that he means quite well for The Gambia.

The Battle for Our Country

The Judiciary

I have said that our country is at a cross-roads, and I cannot emphasize that enough. Today, we are experiencing a terrible chapter in our history as this regime kills, maims, brutalizes and continue to deny our people their basic human rights. This is a challenge we have to face, and a challenge in which we must prevail in our quest to restore and regain civil society. The past twelve years testify to the deaths and disappearances of countless number of Gambians, and in addition, there are the deaths of non-Gambians, specifically Ghanaians, which happened under mysterious circumstances.

THE GAMBIA: Police prevent Independent staff from reopening the paper

New York, April 25, 2006 Two vanloads of police officers prevented The Independent from reopening today and briefly detained an employee who came to unlock the offices of the Gambian private newspaper. The police action came despite statements from National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and other government officials that the paper would be allowed to publish following a month-long ban, local reporters told the Committee to Protect Journalists.
