The army officer told the Freedom Newspaper that one of the factors that led to the invasion of the Freedom Newspaper editor's password was due to Major Kalifa Bajinka’s story. Few weeks ago, the same soldier emailed the Freedom Newspaper claiming that Bajinkas was wanted by the state in connection with the alleged abortive coup.

Following the growing insecurity in the country President Yahya Jammeh in a surprise move yesterday announced the promotion of the officers of The Gambian National Army. Both junior and senior officers benefited from this Presidential gesture, which is seen as an attempt to calm down the disgruntled soldiers. 46 military offices and 853 non commission officers were promoted to various ranks. The following officers were elevated from the rank of major to lieutenant colonel: Major Sang Pierre Mendy, Major Momodou Sowe, Biran Saine, Major Massaneh Kinteh, Major Sarjo Fofana and major Omar B Mbye.
