EDITORIAL:Jammeh expels African Union Delegates?-Democracy under attack again!!! Friday, June 23, 2006 (629 reads)
EDITORIAL It is now evident that the
much talked about African Union Summit scheduled to take place in The
Gambia on July 1St and 2ND will be a "mere talk shop" and not a
conference that will help to wipe the tears of dying Gambians under a
ruthless dictator like President Yahya Jammeh. Jammeh has demonstrated
that he careless about how the world feels about his dictatorial
tendencies with the recent move taken by his government to deny Civil
Society groups from holding free expression conference ahead of the AU
Summit. This move taken by Jammeh speak volumes about the type
government we had in Banjul today. In a nutshell, Jammeh is telling the
world that Freedom of expression is alien to him and would not allow
dissent in The Gambia. A very sad state of affairs.

barred civil society organizations on the continent from holding a
forum on freedom of expression in the country. The forum was scheduled
to take place in Banjul, the capital, on June 29 and 30, prior to the
Summit. In a letter sent on June 19, 2006 to "The Association of
Non-Governmental Organisations" (TANGO) and copied to the Kombo Beach
Hotel, which had been booked as venue for the Forum, the General
Coordinator of the Summit, Mr. Bolong Sonko, who is also a former
Minister of Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, told the hotel management to
suspend the freedom of expression forum until the government approves
it. The Gambian government therefore effectively stopped the NGOs from

Prose:-"Saint-Do-Little" Sweat
was dropping from my forehead,my eye lashes were wet. These lashes
were wet but I was not crying. My body constitution was being squeezed
by the sahel heat. I could not move or swing my arms because the
'stade' was congested. So may spectators,so many mouths,so many eyes,so
many tongues. I could hear whispering voices,I could also hear those
who were talking aloud. There were cheerful faces, there were somber
faces,there were neutral faces.

A louse making noise? Lice suck, lice do not talk. Sucking blood from the veins of a mule is not the same as sucking the blood of the one who owns the mule! Bruhaha when sucking our blood adds more pain. What a menace! A talking louse? Oops! Isn't there a "Dokta-Maata" in that bureau? "Dokta Maata baalal Nyu waaye!" "Dokta Maata" give us a brake! "Dokta Maata" didn't you hear Bunny Wailer's 'Galang-Galang-Galang'? Bunny's dread locks chase lice! They grew on a hot head from Kingston! "Dokta Maata" there are hot heads coming for you.

Unlawful detention of Lawyer Mariam Denton,a woman,a mother and an Icon
in The Gambia,by President Jammeh of The Republic of The Gambia. Your Excellency, It
is with deep regret and bitterness that we are sending you this message
with reference to the above mentioned caption. The theme of this very
message is centered around inviting fighters like you help us as
Gambians fight against injustice and impunity in our country. You as a
person is so qualified to step into this arena. You are a woman by
nature and the political prisoner being referred to herein is also a
woman. You are a loving and caring mother, she is also one. You did
taste the otherside of hard hearted dictators like Samuel Doe and
Charles Taylor during your days as freedom fighter. Mrs Mariam Denton
is today going through those trying times under a hard hearted and
ruthless dictator in the person of President Yahya Abdul Aziz Junkung
Jammeh of The Republic of The Gambia. You did taste the harsh cells and
harsh mental or physical tortures under the hands of Samuel Doe,a
ruthless dictator who never hesitated to kill. Today Mrs Denton is also
facing the same callous and dictatorial tendencies from another despot
who prefers killing over negotiations. Therefore the reason why we as
African sons and daughters chose to send this message to a lioness like
you. You are not a lioness that fights to dominate, you are a lioness
that defends it cubs from hungry wolves.

From the horse's own mouth Jammeh government 98% of the AU! Thursday, June 22, 2006 (561 reads)
By Staff Writer
From the horse's own mouth...President Jammeh can no longer hide. The following was written on the daily observer. This is important,it should be kept for the records. | ".....Hosting of AU Summit Not a Waste...President Jammeh | | | | Written by Lamin M Dibba | | Thursday, 22 June 2006 | | President Yahya Jammeh has said that his government is funding 98 percent of the African Union......" | Well
said President Jammeh, this is a confirmation that you took it upon
yourself to invite the AU heads of state to The Gambia. This also
confirms that President Jammeh himself was 'begging' the AU to come and
hold the summit in Banjul. President Jammeh is visualising the AU
summit as a narrow-minded person. He said that the AU is responsible of
uniting all Africans together? Is this man serious? AU is an abstract
name,it is a name that has been created by the people. Has President
Jammeh not heard about the Ghanaians in The Gambia who are castigating
their own President for wanting to come to The Gambia? Where is the
unity here? Charity begins at home. The President of the Republic of
The Gambia has not been able to unite with his own opposition!

guilty.“We are deeply troubled that the state

this harsh criminal law after detaining him without due process for
over two months,” said Julia Crawford, Africa Program coordinator of

and an apology for the article in question. We call on Gambian
authorities to drop the charges against Fatty immediately, and to lift
