In what appears to be a furious mood yesterday afternoon, the leader of the United Democratic Party, Mr Ousainou Darboe, who also led the coalition of political parties that contested in the last presidential polls, described Mr. Lamin Waa Juwara as an irrelevant person who is not worthy of his attention, much less his response.Mr. Darboe’s comments came on the heels of an interview Mr. Juwara granted this paper some time last week, in which he called on lawyer Darboe to relinquish the leadership of his party after having tried and failed on three occasions to carry his party to victory.

On July 22nd 2007 Yahya Jammeh renamed himself again,saying he is a.."dictator for development". This never came as a surprise for normal people who really know this octopus in robes being called a president before our eyes. Yahya's grand style of craziness has always been reserved to serve as "bitter comedy". His comedy is "bitter" because he makes people laugh when that laughter is wrapped in real plight.

As Nigerian Court has ordered for the freezing of all assets and bank accounts of the disgraced former Governor of South-East Abia State Orji Uzor Kalu, well placed sources in the heart of the Gambian Government say President Yahya Jammeh is a shareholder to First International Bank, which was co financed by Governor Kalu and some business heavy weights in the impoverished tiny West African country. Kalu who is a majority shareholder in the said business venture, recently opened a sister Bank in neighboring Guinea Bissau, a nation which has just emerged from years of political turmoil.

“But Pa, I have been Jammeh’s critic more than them and I’m here. Am I not here? The fact that you are interviewing me, means that I’m free. Is Saihou Sabally more critical of this government than I do? Is Sabally more critical of this government than I do? Let them come back. This is their country. You don’t have to run away from your family. What have they committed? What have they committed? They are free to come home. I’m here. Why can’t they be here? They are just running from their past status.” said lamin Waa Juwara. In this part two of the interview, Mr.Juwara explains how he managed to live for 13 years without a job. Although, he refuses to reveal his source of income to feed his family. “For 13 years, I have not been working. For 13 years, I didn’t sign a voucher for a salary. For 13 years, I didn’t have a job. For 13 years, I take everything for the Gambian people. Is that not commendable? : How many people would have been able to do that every time? How many Gambians who are prepared to do that sacrifice when I have other alternatives? I had offers of job overseas. I have all these other things, I could have gone like any other person. I have suffered for 13 years. Is that not true. I’m telling didn’t I suffered for 13 years? Why don’t you send me a $100 dollars?” Juwara asked Editor M’Bai. While it’s very easy to be homeless in abroad, in the case of Waa Juwara lack of job never affected his living. Missing a month pay check could render some families in the streets. Juwara has his own house in the town of Brikama, but without a full time job. For Juwara to live for 13 years without a job beats the imagination of many. We have always complained about the Governor Ojii Uzor Kalu. Just last week we were talking about his airline(SLOK) and how the Nigeria government woudn't let it operate in Nigeria because the Governer was being investigated and could not account for most of his money and so he moved it to Gambia. I ask myself why Gambia is associated with such people? What is it about Gambia that calls such unwanted people to its shores? Nigeria is in the process of flushing out corrupt and bad leaders, but Why is it that Such people flush into and are made welcomed in the Gambia, This I ask myself.

Orji Kalu has not been convicted yet. Everyone in Nigeria is watching the outcome of the result. First of all, Orji Kalu must have opened the bank in The Gambia before he became the governor of Abia State if I am not mistaken. May be few businesses after the govenorship. I read and followed the report from Abuja newspaper how EFCC is handling the corruption case with past governors, senators, community leaders, and other corruption leaders.

A Former Nigeiran Governor is being investigated in connection with some business interest in the Gambia. The disgraced governor who owns the Slok airline in the Gambia is also reported to have owned a holiday hotel in Tanji. The Nigerian anti graft commission has included the impoverished nation of the Gambia as among the list of countries to be probed in this high profile graft ever allegedly perpetrated by a Govonor in office. Former Governor Orji Uzor was also reported to have Banking interest in The Gambia, Liberia and Sierra Leone. The Governor has been accused of abuse of office, corruption among other things by the Lagos based Financial Crimes Commission. It is reported that the Govenor uses his office's funds to run his business in the Gambia and elsewhere across the globe. It's gathered that his airline was legally registered by The Gambia's law offices called the AG Chambers. His Tanji holiday suit was also registered. There is no immediate comments from the authorities in Banjul. But sources revealed that the Jammeh leadership welcomed investors into the country without conducting background checks. The case of Governor Uzor reminds us about Babanding Futanka Sissohor, the Malian Millionaire who was given official escort while he serving as an investor. Sissohor was later implicated in a Dubai Bank money laundering scam, which prompted the interpol to issue an international arrest warrant for him. Sissohor was also arrested in the United States for trying to bribe local Customs agents in a bid to smuggle helcopters into the Gambia. After serving his imprisonment, the Malian millionaire was deported to the Gambia. He is currently in hiding in Mali as there is an international arrest warrant for him.
