No Time to be Afraid; Part 2.
By Mathew K Jallow
The letter last week, from a member of the military, in response to an open letter entitled, No Time to be Afraid, calling for our military and security forces, to no longer allow the sense of hopelessness and defeatism to continue to pin us and our hopes down, generated reactions that if anything else, echoed the unpopularity and hatred for Yahya Jammeh and his rudderless regime. The letter, which was emotional on so many levels, irritated the raw passions of a large segment of the Gambian Diaspora population, reinforcing our beliefs that our military is not entirely populated by quacks, nihilists, and sadomasochists. Our faith in the ability of our military to deliver our country from the perpetual nightmare still remains strong. Every Gambian knows that our experience under the AFPRC regime has been a sad and painful story of babies and children growing up never knowing the father who gave them life and brought them to earth, while Jammeh’s children vacation in style in Walt Disney, the world’s greatest entertainment destination for children. The fatherless babies, children, young adults and teenagers, whose fathers once wore a military uniform of our country and shared the hopes and dreams of every other young men from round the world, are now gone forever; brutally executed by Jammeh and his gang of killers.

Scales In Defense Of President Obama
Dear Mr. Editor,
I was interested to view my good friend Mr.Dida Halake's comments regarding, the release on compassionate grounds, of convicted " Lockerbie "...Bomber Mr.Al Magrahi of Libya. Having spent many years following the story and being a distant eye witness to the event and its aftermath....Perhaps you could run that story I wrote once again......Dida, who has been an ever increasing telephone companion of mine, often phones me to enquire of my health and we have shared some very interesting but brief conversations on matters of mutual interest. I find him to be a very kind and considerate man. I would agree with his support for the release of Mr.al Magrahi...but perhaps not for the same reasons.

Senegal: New arrests and convictions for same-sex relations; pattern of persecution continues
For Immediate Release, August 20, 2009
Media Contact: Hossein Alizadeh, 212-430-6016, halizadeh@iglhrc.org
(New York, August 20, 2009)- The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC) and Inner Circle are outraged at reports that a 17 year-old Senegalese man will stand trial on August 24 for sexual acts "against nature" and that two other men were convicted on identical charges during the week of August 10, 2009. The three men, all from the town of Darou Mousty, in Louga, Senegal, were arrested and detained for alleged same-sex relations on June 19, 2009, together with a fourth man whose status is currently unknown. The first two men were sentenced to two and five years in prison respectively. Reports indicate that denunciations from neighbors were the only evidence against the men.

London Letter: Well-done Mr. MacAskill, Shame President Obama
“Shamefully, we have President Obama expressing his disgust at the freeing of a possibly innocent man! We have a Black President, who two weeks ago was talking about the “stupid” treatment of black Prof. Gates at the hands of US Law Enforcement and bemoaning the fact that the US Judicial System still treats US Black citizens unfairly, now complaining that a Scottish Justice Secretary has done the right thing! In this instance (and in many other instances since his election) it seems that the man who promised the world “change” when he became the first Black President of the United States is bringing about no change – other than the change of skin colour at the White House. Which is a shame, Mr. Obama. On the other hand,” Writes Dida Halak.
By Dida Halake, London
For those of us who followed the trial of the so-called “Libyan Bomber” Mr. Meghari’s trial, he should not have been found guilty in the first place by any court - for there simply was no evidence on which to base a guilty decision. There was absolutely no evidence, other than circumstantial mumbo-jumbo, to link the man to the crime he was accused of. In fact there may be much, deliberately not investigated by the British Police (like the break-in into PANAM’s Heathrow Luggage are the night before the bombing) which might have cleared Mr. Meghari. Like his co-accused who left the court a free man, Mr. Maghari should have been found “Not Guilty”. Where there was doubt, and there was/is doubt aplenty, the Scottish Judicial System allows for a third verdict: “Not Proven”. The Scottish Judicial System of which I am well aware having lived there for 12 years and even undertaken a year’s Legal Studies course, sank its reputation into the gutter by declaring the man “Guilty”.

Desist from contacting me, for humanitarian assistance directly via the internet-Scales Tells Gambians
…Says The NIA Has Intercepted Some Of His Private Communications
As Scales Renounces His Gunjur Honorary Citizenship
Dear Mr. Editor,
May I use your good offices, to further advise Gambians to desist from contacting me, for humanitarian assistance directly via the internet. I have received reports that these communications have been intercepted by The Gambia's intelligence services and that some e/mail addresses have been infiltrated. Whilst I appreciate that by changing these addresses will give some relief in the short term, their safety cannot be totally guaranteed indefinitely. I have also made it a firm rule that I will not entertain any "talk" regarding the Gambian government or its politics. I communicate only on the relevant and dire need of the caller. The method on which I respond with aid is a well guarded secret.

Public Announcement: Freedom Newspaper Management Debunked Claims Of False Wanted List!!!!
Wanted List Is Authentic, And Reliable- Assert Editors
The Management of the Freedom Newspaper wishes to inform its readership that the list of the WANTED Gambians recently published by this medium is authentic, and therefore, stood by its story. The communication came from a reliable source, and we have no doubt in our mind that the people mentioned therein are wanted by the Jammeh administration. We are not in the business of publishing scam, and dismisses any assertion to that effect. It is our fervent belief that all Gambians deserved asylum, irrespective of one’s trade, tribe, gender, or political affiliation-given the fact that tyranny, and fear continued to dominate the minds of oppressed Gambians. We wish good luck to all present, and would be Gambian asylum seekers .

SangMarie Celebrations In Atlanta
The Gambia Christian People’s Association Has Done It Again!!!
Saturday August 15, 2009 saw another night of fun and dance in Atlanta in what turned out to be one of the best parties the Christian Organization has put up in recent memory. The party which started pretty early for a Gambian event, went late into the wee hours of Sunday morning. Our own Father Gough was there to grace the organization. As always, Sang Marie has been a day of not only church going and consuming “nan burru” but also a day for our Christian brothers and sisters to join their Muslim counterparts to enjoy what are always joyous gatherings. At least that is the Gambian tradition.

Pa Musa Jallow Clarifies
Dear Mr. Mbai (Pa Nderry)
I herein re forward the initial letter and posting I made to you on 25th May 2008 that you were most kind enough to publish and so did Allgambian.net who was equally copied and the gambiapost forum.
I have no idea who Ms Ollie Saine is and why she chose to re-send my piece which is now old news and it could just be a case of forward or reply all, but I assure you that my letter then as even now had no hidden agenda or other purpose except to alert you on the hurt and despair that was felt by what I thought was unwarranted and unjustified labelling of persons due to ethnic or other origin that none of us have any control over.Nonetheless I send you and everyone assurances of my highest considerations.
Assalam alaikum.
