Breaking News:Sacked GAMTEL MD Omar Ndow Arrested-State House Sources confirm! Wednesday, November 22, 2006 (1126 reads)
The erstwhile Managing Director of GAMTEL Omar Ndow has been arrested and thrown into jail by the NIA, unimpeachable sources hinted today. Mr.Ndow was picked up by NIA operatives, shortly after his unceremonious sacking earlier this week. The circumstances surrounding his arrest are unclear at this hour, but sources say it might have to do with the recent communication breakdown facing the tiny West African country. Ndow has since been replaced by Katim Touray, an accountant by profession.
Mr.Ndow's wife is a sister to Antouman Saho, the APRC Administrative Secretary. His family made numerous efforts to access him since his arrest but without success. Ndow, according to sources was likely to be charged by the state as the President was said to have been very upset with him days leading to his sacking and subsequent arrest.

Horomsi:Bahnadal..Jammeh is now listening..GAMTEL'S Omar Ndow Fired! Wednesday, November 22, 2006 (1318 reads)
President Yahya Jammeh is now listening. It's important for him to read the Freedom Newspaper with an open mind. Yes, we are critical of his administration, but that would not stop us from reporting the truth and nothing but the truth. We have the moral obligation to make our public officials accountable. That's our job as press men and women.Few days ago, we reported about the communication breakdown in the Gambia, which resulted into a major blackout. Gambians in the diaspora hardly have access to their loved ones. They struggle for days, weeks and months just to reach Banjul on the phone. Despite our piece, GAMTEL never issued a statement to shed light on the story. As usual, they behave as if nothing had went wrong.

Horomsi:Will Jammeh Be Treated Like Jawara After His Fall? Kukoi creates panick.. Sunday, November 19, 2006 (1493 reads)
Over the years, I have been reflecting on how President Yahya Jammeh, should be treated after his fall. Gambians have been talking, but few are concerned about Jammeh's fate after his fall. This should be of concern to all and sundry. Jammeh will no doubt in my mind leave Marina Parade one day God willing. Lets hope and pray that the next person to rule the Gambia is God fearing and a peace maker. Jammeh must be a lucky man if he receives the type of treatment, he accorded to depose President Jawara.

Breaking News:I left Office With My Reputation intact-Says former Justice Minister Bensouda! Thursday, November 16, 2006 (755 reads)
Gambia's former Attorney General and Secretary of State For Justice Fatou Bensouda has reacted to Baati Jollof's recent piece, in which he claimed that the former Minister was being branded as a "liar" by the Jammeh government. In a statement, the former Justice Secretary rejected Baati Jollof's assertions in the strongest terms. Mrs.Bensouda says her credibility was intact when she left office and therefore challenges anyone who doubted her claim to prove her wrong. Below is the full text of Madam Bensouda's letter addressed to the editor of the Freedom Newspaper. Please read on....
..........................................
Dear Pa Nderry,
I hope you and yours are well. Your article was brought to my attention. I have the following reaction to it. 1. I think it is incorrect to say that I was branded a liar by the Jammeh Government. I want to put on the record that contrary to what your source might have fed you, I have never told any lies to anybody or against anybody to gain my position as Attorney General. It was a position I never lobbied for.
2. To brand someone would imply that there was some form of public characterisation to that effect, to date, I have not seen that characterisation in any form. I believe I left with my reputation intact.
3. I do not see how my sacking was different from that of my predecessor's. I was written to to leave, just like she was. If you know anything in addition apart from the fact that both our terminations were announced -like they do with all others, do let me know. 3. Subsequently, I was approached to take back the position of A.G. I dont think this would have been the case if the Govt considered me in the light of your article. I just wanted to set the records straight. Otherwise I have nothing against you or anybody else for that matter.
Regards Fatou Fatou Bensouda
Editors note: Sister Fatou, we agree entirely with your above assertions. We never doubted your credibility at any given time. The said piece was authored by Baati Jollof. It does not represent the position of the Freedom Newspaper in any way. We must admit that it was an editorial oversight from our end not to issue a disclaimer at the end of his piece. Thanks for setting the records straight. Have a great day.

Death by Firing Squad awaits the Alleged Coup Plotters-Baati Jollof Wednesday, November 15, 2006 (1526 reads)
The Fear of the Apocalypse
.jpg) .jpg) .jpg) .gif) As Death by Firing Squad awaits the Alleged Coup Plotters
By Baati Jollof
As the rambling and incoherent movements resurfaced once again within the echelons of the civil service, so also has information started to reflow again within its most useful conduits, which has for some time been partially starved by such ill-advised movements coupled with the movements of some incompetent floating permanent secretaries, whose only task presently is to spy on the cream of the civil service and to damage them once and for all for their own selfish interest. As the very oil that lubricates the very wheels of the machinery that makes the civil service function, we know that it is apparent that we can only be starved from information temporarily but not permanently, for on to us lies the burden the moves the civil service.

Breaking News:The Gambia Without Communication? Is this is a Sabotage or what? Wednesday, November 15, 2006 (1155 reads)
Gambia's main telecommunication network GAMTEL, is seemingly joining other dead parastatals in that impoverished West African country. The firm is faced by lack of modern equipment and regular maintenance. For the past four weeks, Gambians living in the diaspora and non Gambians alike have been complaining about poor network in the Gambia and lack of quality phone services. Several hundreds of dollars were wasted on phone cards, due to communication disruption from Banjul. Reaching the Gambia on the phone these days, is hard to come by. People struggle for hours, weeks and months just to get in touch with their loved ones. The Banjul phones are either unreachable, out of service or busy.

Information Power And Not Guns Will Change Gambia For Better! Wednesday, November 15, 2006 (714 reads)
By Sarjo Bayang
Peace-loving Gambians have been exhausted serious enough that even the softest of hearts now conceive the idea of uprooting military dictatorship by force of arms. That is a talk beyond rumours. Even the government makes this a big issue by the continued arrest of numerous people accused of being associated with thoughts and actions aimed at bringing down the Jammeh regime by the very means it came into being. Beyond the sandy beaches of coastal Gambia, a new power bloc is being consolidated by force of which the Jammeh misrule of more than a decade will inevitably succumb. That force is not gun power. It is the power of information. Gambians in larger numbers have discovered and embraced the information superhighway in very unprecedented scales. It was part of the old thinking that Gambians have not been public readers. Now with the further advances in the use of Internet not only are Gambians reading what is seen to be in the public domain, there are more people writing than it was traditionally left in the hands of few journalists. The issues that creep up during a wider exchange are both stimulating and progressive. It is that power many believe will change Gambia for better.

He replaces the sacked Attorney General Sheik Tijan Hydara. Mr. Sayang who was called to the Gambian Bar few years ago, was the mastermind for the sacking of disgraced magistrate King, who he accused of "abuse of office" and official corruption. Breaking News:North American Airlines To Suspend Operations To Gambia!Management Explain.. Monday, November 13, 2006 (995 reads)
By Pa Nderry M'Bai
Banjul, The Gambia: The US based North American Airlines Company today confirmed that it would suspend operations to the Gambia with effect from January 14TH, 2007. A spokesman of the leading airline told the Freedom Newspaper in an interview that the decision to suspend operations to the impoverished West African country was primarily caused by "lack of passengers." The North American Airlines, started scheduled flights to the former British colony the Gambia on June 5Th, 2006. Barely less than six months, the company has announced to cease operations in that country. The company's high expectations of attracting more Gambian passengers was shattered by what the company called "low winter season." The company says Banjul has not been performing to their expectations and as such they thought it crucially necessary to "discontinue" operations" from that end until such a time that the business climate changes.

Mr.Steve Forsyth Director, Corporate
Communications says"North American
Airlines is not getting customers from
