‘Gambia’s situation an embarrassment’
By Kemo Cham
Small Gambia continues to feature in every human rights discourse around the world these days, all be it for the wrong reasons. And in no region is this so true at this particular point in time than in the Caribbean, where heads of states of former British colonies are gathering for the heads of government meeting in the Trinidadian capital of Port-of-Spain. The Gambia has since come under a series of attacks, in the run up to this meeting, for death threats made by its leader, Yahya Jammeh. It appears that that statement of his offended more people than has so far has been highlighted. This, according to the Sunday Guardian of Trinidad and Tobago, is translating into more penalizing prospects for the country.

Breaking News:CHOGM: Commonwealth SG Asked To Intervene On Gambia's Case!!! Monday, November 23, 2009 (934 reads)
CHOGM: Letter to Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary General Commonwealth Demanding Statement on Gambia
To Hon. Kamalesh Sharma
Secretary General, Commonwealth
Marlborough House
London.
Dear Secretary General:
It is now just one week before the CHOGM. I write in the continued hope that there will still be a statement from your office or from the leadership of the Commonwealth in the form of the outgoing and/or incoming chairs on the Gambia and the President's widely publicised statement about killing human rights defenders. You will recall that our request was that in the absence of any recission of his alleged statement, no invitation be issued to the Gambian President. I am given to understand President Jammeh may not in fact be attending the CHOGM. In our view this does not end the matter. The gravity of the threat remains as does the unequivocal repudiation of the fundamental principles of the Commonwealth: in simple words - a repudiation of all that the Commonwealth stands for.

London Letter: In Praise of Pa Mbai!
Pa,
I am extremely busy at the moment, but let me take this quick opportunity to second without reservation Halifa Sallah’s comments:-
“At least you are different from people who hide behind corners to say the very things you have written while pretending to be reserving their opinion so as not to harm the interest of opposition unity. Needless to say, you also have one rear virtue which others need to emulate. In short, you do apologise when you discover that your earlier impressions are misconceived. As a public figure I am accountable to the public for all my actions in the public space. Even my actions in the private domain are not spared. I accept criticism or scrutiny in good faith”.
That is what it is all about.
Keep up the good work - although if I were still at the Daily Observer ....
Yours sincerely,
Dida Halake.

Halifa Sallah's arrogance was only matched by his intransigence-Michael Scales Monday, November 23, 2009 (858 reads)
“Halifa Sallah's arrogance was only matched by his intransigence. Shame on Sallah and all those who believe they are the only "wisdom" in The Gambia,” Michael Sacales Charges
Dear Mr.Editor,
The Freedom Newspaper, never fails to astound me with its ever vigilant finger on the cusp of fast unfolding events in The Gambia. This morning’s " Good Stuffs" is no exception. When first reading that Amadou Samba and the boss of his former company Africel had been questioned by the police, I said to myself ,,,,this could not be happening? For Amadou and Jammeh are like "two peas in a pod" They are the proverbial Siamese twins of Gambian commerce. One could not function without the other.

Pa Sanyang General Tamba’s In-Law Was A Spy For The Police
By Pa Nderry M’Bai
As General Lang Tombong Tamba, and his co accused defendants, languished in jail, following allegations of a coup plot against the administration of President Yahya Jammeh, details are emerging regarding the conspiracy theories hatched by the Inspector General of police Essa Badjie, with the primary objective of “BLACKMAILING” the embattled former Army General, highly placed state house sources revealed. IGP Badjie has spearheaded an undercover world scheme against Tamba, as he succeeded in recruiting Tamba’s immediate family member in the person of one Pa Sanyang. Mr. Sanyang, a newly high school graduate, also believed to be mentally challenged, is the half brother of Tamba’s wife Sireh Sanyang. Neither General Tamba, nor his wife Sireh were aware of IGP’S Badjie’s sinister plots to invade their private homes, with the recruitment of Pa Sanyang as an undercover spy for the police Department.

Gambia:Security Analysis:Yahya Jammeh To Die Soon- Assignment For The NIA Sunday, November 22, 2009 (1947 reads)
Yahya Jammeh To Die Soon- Assignment For The NIA
Is IGP Jesus Badjie Planning To Replace Jammeh??
By Famara Badjie, Banjul
Proper intelligence management is the cornerstone to a stable, and prosperous nation. In the case of The Gambia, we are not blessed with seasoned intelligence officers, who are capable of gathering, and processing intelligence. We are living in a precarious and dangerous fragile security environment, where the unexpected can happen anytime from now. President Jammeh is on his way to the graves. This is no threat.
The police under the leadership of Inspector General Essa Badjie is now advising the President on major security related issues. The arrest of General Tamba, Kawsu Camara, NIA’S Numo Kujabi, and other officers of the armed forces emanated from the police. Jesus Badjie, as he is fondly called here in Banjul, received a tip-off about a planned mutiny in the making. But the semiliterate police chief, does not have a clue about the brains behind the said coup. He just forwarded a list of present, and former officers, whom he had a beef with in the recent past. A buried truth shall rise again.

Editorial: US Embassy Promotes Internet Freedom In The Gambia!!
….As Government Blocks US Based Freedom Newspaper
The United States Embassy in Banjul should be commended for initiating an online training program for Gambia’s local journalists. This is a welcomed development, as far as the evolution of the country’s media is concerned. The Internet is the modern means of communication, and all journalists should rise up to the challenges by ensuring that they are properly trained in the area of IT security, quality content, and timely dissemination of news. The whole purpose of the Internet is to connect families, businesses, and the world together. In other words, the Internet helps to facilitate timely and effective communication-most importantly in the field of journalism. Billions of people around the world relied on the Internet as a source of news, marketing, and social networking.
