Saturday, December 23, 2006 (288 reads)

Best wishes for x-mas and prosperous 2007

By: Gambisara, Senior Manager.

On behalf of the management and staff of the Freedom Newspaper, I am honoured to convey to you all the seasons greetings and our best wishes for a merry x-mas and a happy and prosperous new year in advance. As we wish you all a Happy and Prosperous New Year, we know that there are thousands  of people in our own country who suffer from poverty and deprivation which is not their fault. Thousands more without jobs and are forced to beg and depend on others for their livelihood, with all the negative consequences this has on their dignity as human beings. Many others are also sick, some of whom will succumb to preventable diseases. Contrary to our collective and fervent-wish, there are others who have been and will be exposed to crimes or violence of political nature. Others will continue to be exposed to humiliation and suffering as a result of calculated discrimination at the national level.

Breaking News:November 11 Coupists Planned To Kill Council Members And Their Families-Sana Sabally Alleges....
Saturday, December 23, 2006 (842 reads)

Former junta Vice Chairman Sana Bairo Sabally is speaking out for the first time regarding the November 11 alleged abortive coup, which led to the execution of dozens of senior and junior army officers in the West African country. Sabally who is on self imposed exile in Senegal, in a dispatch claimed that the alleged coup plotters planned to kill  AFPRC council members including their families in the event the coup went successful. Mr.Sabally who was alleged to have participated into the killing of members of Gambia's young and senior army officers implicated in the said coup commented"The plots against us [the Council (AFPRC)] on Friday 11 November, 1994 aimed at very dangerous things. They were not only foiled, but Allah’s wonderful working turned the tables, and brought good out of evil in each case. They tried to arrest, or injure or slay us and our families and our close bodyguards, but the wonderful example of our humility, perseverance, and fearlessness furthered the cause of the Council (AFPRC). They plotted to kill us, and Allah planned too. And Allah is the Best of planners. The plots of betrayers are known fully to Allah, and He can fully circumvent them if necessary, according to the fullness of His Wisdom. Can I ask you this simple question? What do you expect us to do- fold our arms and be herded to the gallows? " Below is the full statement of Sabally's piece. Please read on...

By Cherno Omar BARRY

Pa Nderry please allow my comment on the Dida and Mohammed's issue on Jammeh. I just wish to inform both that we can most definitely have divergent views on the topic as well as support or not support Jammeh. I have been reading with keen interest the excellent postings by Dida in The Gambia particularly when a debate arises between him and Harmattan. There too he was able to defend a point by forwarding facts and figures.

A TRIBUTE TO THE BEST DAD EVER-Deyda Hydara's Daughter Speaks!
Wednesday, December 20, 2006 (570 reads)

A TRIBUTE TO THE BEST DAD EVER

BY MARIE HYDARA JOHN

It’s 24mths today since your coward killers thought they have succeeded in silencing Deyda Hydara. How wrong could they have been? Though dead he still poses a threat, and we are glad we aren’t the only ones crying. People from all around the world join us in mourning your gory death. You are our jewel , we love and will always miss u. Death is part of life that is the natural order of things, but to lose you in such an inhumanly manner is absolutely numbing! We try to live as much as possible but some days is hard to think about even hard to breathe. All we do is try not to make your dead greater than your life by celebrating your life like you wanted. How can we let you go when nothing could ever take your place. At times it seems as though nothing could comfort us but with the support of few God fearing Gambians and support and recognition from international organization we have the faith to live.

My task today is to analyse  boy Jammeh's inuagural speech delivered at his 3rd term swearing in. Read on. In bold are excerpts from the speech and the rest my reactions.
"It is not easy to build a nation". That is why we ask you not to run it

like your zoo/home. Run it like it belongs to all of us. Consult with people who know more than you do.OK? Stop the hiring and firing of hard working men and women of Gambia. If you believe that your hiring and firings are genuine, give reasons so Gambians would know…transparency. But any govt. that operates behind the curtain stands to be suspected of ill play.
