Scoop Number Two: Yanks Colley, Yanks Badjie, Captain Salifu Corr, Malick Jones And Co Appeared On Freedom Radio

Interesting media developments is taking place in the Gambia. Barely less than 24 hours after speaking with Yahya Jammeh’s cabinet, we have interviewed another new batch of officials on Freedom Radio. KMC Mayor Yankuba Colley told Freedom Radio that he is going to help secure Imam Baba Leigh’s release. Colley also discusses his recent election victory. We also briefly spoke with the Deputy NIA DG Yankuba Badjie. Captain Salifu Corr also featured on the show. We managed to speak to Malick Jones of the GRTS. We promised to offer him a cultural reporter job. We told him that a Cuban radio station wanted to hire him as their cultural reporter. Malick agreed and furnished us with his email contacts. Ajie Ndey Jatta, an APRC Women mobiliser said President Jammeh alone cannot develop the nation. She also informed us that Jammeh’s new rice consignment has just docked at the ports. The 58 year old lady asked if we could help to secure her a US visa to visit. She said she has desire to visit America one day. Matarr Jarju, an errand boy for Yahya Jammeh also featured on the show.

By The Soldier
Pa, This is The Soldier again. My able boss, you have caused chaos in Banjul. The interview of the ministers and others is driving dictator Jammeh crazy. According to our reliable informants back home, there is an emergency CABINET meeting at state house right now. Dictator Jammeh summoned a meeting this morning for all senior government officials to attend an EMERGENCY meeting at state house. My able boss, you are preventing the dictator and his team from sleeping. You have penetrated them and now they are confused. The truth always wins, TIME WILL TELL. One of our informants who is a minister informed us that they have been asked to declare all their phone numbers including their families. They want to trace who is calling and providing information to you SIR. So inform all the informers to take extra measures. The dictator will create a task team to investigate, BELIEVE THE SOLDIER.

The room cost 250 pounds per night. Buba Badjie and Seedy have been released, but Lamin Sanneh is not seen. I personally interviewed some of the staffers of the Kairaba about the way they were treated in the hotel. The General manager of the hotel is one Gerald Lambardo, a French national. He is also the owner of the Batokunku motel. The staffers of the hotel are not happy with him.

HALIFA WRITES TO PRESIDENT JAMMEH Monday, April 29, 2013 (2953 reads)
HALIFA WRITES TO PRESIDENT JAMMEH
On Constitutional Lapses in the Inauguration of Councils
29 April 2013
THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE GAMBIA
STATE HOUSE
BANJUL
RE: ON DEVIATIONS FROM THE RULE OF LAW
The setting up of different dates to inaugurate councils after the 4th April 2013 Local Government elections reflects a lack of uniformity in the assumption of office by members of Councils who are elected on the same day and have equal tenure of office. Good Laws are made by a state to ensure predictability of official conduct and avert ambiguity and absurdity in administrative practice. It is therefore important to point out to you that ambiguity and absurdity is already evident in the assumption of office on different dates by councillors who are destined to leave office on the same date if they serve their full term.

GAMBIA NEEDS GENUINE LIBERATORS
By Sulayman Jeng
Nothing good comes easy. In the same vein, it can be equally asserted that conferred cosmetic recognitions received on a silver platter do not radiate the pride that successes achieved through hard work and personal sacrifices reflect. In a nutshell, one tends to value and cherish things that one has toiled hard for more than those received from the hand of fortune. The same can be said of a freedom achieved on a silver platter and that fought for tooth and nail. That is precisely why those who fought to achieve their freedom will go to any length to preserve and protect it at all cost as opposed to those who inherit it. Perhaps this explains the reason for the struggle against Jammeh to liberate the Gambia is still limping. A detailed browse and analysis of the Gambian media both radio, electronic and print will reveal an atmosphere of uncertainty, mixed feelings, hopelessness, confusion and desperation. Beneath all these, one must hasten to add, lays a solid rock of achievements.

Letter to Ambassador Jackson McDonald on the State Department's Report

Dear Ambassador McDonald,
Re: THE GAMBIA - State Department's Human Rights Practices for 2012
The U.S. State Department's Report on the human practices in The Gambia for 2012 ( henceforth referred to as the Report ) is out and it does not make pleasant reading. The report prepared by the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor is the most scathing of any report emanating from the U.S. Government on the human condition in The Gambia. Even the legitimacy of the APRC government of Yahya Jammeh seems to be suspect when the Report cited, in the opening paragraph, the fact that 6 of the 7 Opposition Parties boycotted the National Assembly elections " in protest of government intervention and intimidation of opponents, including " instances in which elements of the security forces acted independently of civilian control."

Yaya Jammeh declares himself a perfect human being. Sunday, April 28, 2013 (1648 reads)
Yaya Jammeh declares himself a perfect human being.
By Modou Jammeh
Never in his 19 years rule has Yaya Jammeh accepted being a mortal being by accepting being susceptible to making mistakes or wrong judgments in ruling the Gambia. Yaya Jammeh said the British exploited the Gambian people for 400 years. By saying this has Yaya Jammeh, in being honest to himself, ever accepted that he is doing the same thing as the British if not worst. Worst still because Yaya Jammeh forces Gambians to go and work in his firm free of charge. Worst yet because Yaya Jammeh uses the soldiers labor free of charge. Worst again because Yaya Jammeh uses his position as a Head of State to do whatever he likes in the economy of this country and worst to the core because Yaya Jammeh can arrest, torture, imprison, kill, without the rule of law. In effect Yaya Jammeh is worse than the British colonialist because the colonialist has always paid for the labor of Gambian people and respected their human rights even if they were economic exploiters from a foreign land.

The Soldier Releases Latest National Security Briefings
By The Soldier
Pa, This is The Soldier again. My able boss, permission to write to you again. I know permission is granted. Pa, things are just falling apart for dictator Jammeh. Even the cooks who cook at his major events are now complaining of not being paid . The cooks who just came from the last Kanilai retreat event have not been paid and they are very angry . There is no money and the Yai Compins are also keeping the little they are receiving from dictator Jammeh. The ministry of finance cannot pay salaries of civil servants, there priority is to pay the salaries of the army and other officers but not the civil servants, where are we heading. Pa, on a more serious note, Monday, 29th May is going to be rough on many Gambian drivers. As reported on The Soldier's last story some arms were found in a vehicle and this has driven the dictator crazy. He is afraid and very nervous.
