Appeal to new police chief after two reporters beaten by police

Appeal to new police chief after two reporters beaten by police

Reporters Without Borders today called on the new head of the Liberia National Police, Beatrice Munah Sieh, to take energetic measures to ensure respect for the work of the press after two reporters were beaten by police officers while covering the eviction of street vendors in Monrovia on 20 April. "When everything suggests Liberia is entering a new era, the streets of Monrovia should not still be a danger zone for the press," Reporters Without Borders said. "Police brutality against journalists should no longer treated as commonplace and unremarkable, but as misconduct that requires punishment. The police high command should take this incident seriously if, as it claims, it wants to restore the public's confidence in the police."

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-YDE Embezzlement still unsolved....D66M President Jammeh is worse than Baba Jobe.
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 (723 reads)

YDE'S D66M-President Jammeh and his associates took the greater chunk and then he locked Baba Jobe up!

Sources close to President Jammeh have once again revealed something many of us did not know. The names of certain officials including Jammeh himself have been exposed in connection with the YDE saga. It was reported some months ago that Baba Jobe used D100,000,000.00 out of the YDE budget. This is what Justice Paul used as his legal grounds to lock up Baba for 10 good years. However of late new revelations started emerging. It is said that President Jammeh himself was the one spending the YDE returns in a lavish way.

JAMMEH GOT TO GO-JOURNALIST MATHEW K JALLOW!!!
Monday, April 24, 2006 (1162 reads)

               BY STAFF WRITER OMAR NJIE

"We have a history of false allegations with Jammeh, beginning with the Sana Sabally and Sadibou Hydara cases. I do not think Edward Singateh himself is as
safe as he wants to believe. My own quarrel with Edward Singateh is why in the world did he, Sabally and Basirou Barrow, allowed Jammeh, a Casamance citizen to head their new government. That was a big mistake and we are all paying for it now. As far as the coup is concerned, I don't know what to believe here, but given Jammeh's history of false accusations, I will not be surprised if we find out
it was all one big lie."said Mathew K Jallow, a Gambian journalist, cum political activist. Mr. Jallow was speaking in an exclusive interview with Freedom Newspaper's Omar Njie. Below is the full text of the interview. Please read on...

            By OUSAINOU MBENGA

This is part one of our developmental criticism series targeted to the institutions that impact on our livelihood as a people and a “nation”. In our quest to chart the uncharted path to a progressive Gambia, we want to engage all the honest and genuine forces in and outside the Gambia to bring about fundamental changes into our lives. We only seek after the truth, the facts about our miserable existence and the solutions to our problems. Therefore, we are not intimidated by anyone’s title, “power” or ill-gotten wealth. Forward to a proud-future Gambia!

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-President Jammeh's mother moves into Baba Jobe's home.
Monday, April 24, 2006 (708 reads)

Who Jailed Baba Jobe, the law or President Jammeh?

When Justice Paul jailed Baba Jobe he used theft, tax evasion and a lot of other paragraphs relating to the laws of the land. He used these attractive justifications against the disgraced former parliamentarian or majority leader. Baba Jobe was accused of ripping the government of 100M dalasis. It was reported that Jobe owed both the customs and GPA Gambia Ports Authority this colossal sum.

BREAKING NEWS:Jammeh's mother moved following death threats!!!!
Monday, April 24, 2006 (709 reads)

               BY OUR BANJUL BUREAU CHIEF

Gambia’s President Yahya Jammeh is seemingly worried about the ailing security situation in the country, as he ordered for the immediate transfer of his mother to a Kotu residence, following what well placed state house sources called death threats messages circulated at his mum’s residence in Bakau, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively reveal. Asombi Bojang, the President’s mother was moved with immediate effect, as sources say the President was not taking the death threats lightly. Security had been beefed up around the head of state mum’s current and former residence, the Freedom Newspaper was told. It is not yet clear who are behind the said activities, but sources say President Jammeh told his mother that whether she likes it or not she was going to vacate her Bakau residence. Below is the piece filed by our Banjul Bureau Chief. Please read on…

SOVEREIGNTY RESIDES WITH THE PEOPLE

A Message For Jammeh and His Sinking Regime

I wish the Gambian head of state, Yahya Jammeh understands that sovereignty resides with the people of the Gambia and not with him or even the National Assembly for that matter. Dr. Taal, please advise your boss on the sovereign power of the masses. Gambians will change governments either by ballots or on streets by mass demonstrations as it's happening in Nepal these days.

JAMMEH EXPOSING HIS OWN LIES AND TREACHERY-Opinion piece
Sunday, April 23, 2006 (773 reads)

             BY YANKUBA JAMBANG

Pa, it's unbelievable that Yahya Jammeh is merely playing with Gambians lives; killing them for fun or rituals! I'm saying this because I 've just read a piece on your site and the Daily Observer story captioned: "Sheriff Dibba Meets President Jammeh" in the Friday edition of the paper. What Jammeh and his praise singers (Daily Observer) must understand is that we as Gambians can distinguish truth from falsehood. That fact that Sheriff Dibba did not make any mention of his involvement in the alleged coup d'eta indicates that there was indeed no coup in the Gambia.
