A MOMENTOUS OPPORTUNITY THAT SLIPPED AWAY-Opinion Sunday, July 23, 2006 (296 reads)
A MOMENTOUS OPPORTUNITY THAT SLIPPED AWAY BY MUSA CAMARA
The National Alliance for Democracy and Development [NADD] came into being by the unity of opposition political parties in The Gambia to avert the perpetuation of President Yaya Jammeh and his Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction [APRC] government in power. At the behest of the President, the APRC dominated National Assembly amended the election clause of the constitution from at least fifty-one per cent to a simple majority as requirement for winning the presidency. Few were in doubt that this adulteration of the constitution was motivated by the president’s growing desperation to avoid a second round ballot, a real possibility given the rising gain by the opposition in the polls since the 1996 election.

Rev John Whitehead enquires about Vincent Jatta's whereabouts!!!! Sunday, July 23, 2006 (362 reads)
By Rev John Whitehead
Dear Sirs,
Thank you for your publication which
provides valuable information on what is happening in The Gambia. I love that country and have spent much time
there, involved with a church and a clinic..

I am very concerned about the fate
of my friend Vincent Jatta who I have met a number of times over the last six
years. The latest news that I have is
that he is in prison on charges of treason and conspiracy and could face the death
sentence.
Do you have any later news? What about his wife and children. It is very difficult to find any accurate
news from England. I have already written to the President
directly about him but is there anything else you think I might be able to do
to help my good friend.
Thanks again for your publication –
please keep up the good work.
Rev John Whitehead

note:Thanks Rev John Whitehead, for the complements. Under the current
situation, all what you need to do is to mount more pressure on the
Jammeh government to produce the body of Vincent Jatta. The regime in
Banjul is in the habit of mistreating detainees and latest information
reaching us speaks of brutal torture inflicted on the detained coup
suspects. Publishing the letter you sent to Jammeh online will also
help to expose the regime.Feel free to send the letter to us for public
consumption. As it stands, there is a rule of law crisis in the Gambia.
The detainees rights and liberties are constantly infringed with impunity by the
authorities. They are denied access to their families and
lawyers. As Church leaders, we will urge you to pray for the Gambia, as
dictator Jammeh is posed to set the country ablaze in days to come. The
future of this West African country remains bleak as long as Jammeh
continues to rule that impoverished nation. Once again, thanks for
having faith on the Freedom Newspaper. We will keep you posted about
developments as it unfolds in our dear country.

PANORAMA with 'bulfaaleh'-The deep worries of some Gambian officials-Jammeh in Lebanon Why? Saturday, July 22, 2006 (583 reads)
Proves rolling in so fast...
President Jammeh cannot hide anymore
Foreign Fighters from Lebanon within our midst?-Scary!
"Mr
Muhamed Basi, Honorary Consul of The Gambia in Lebanon and Mr Jehad Eid (Source Daily
Observer,President Jammeh, own paper).
A
couple of weeks ago this paper wrote about President Jammeh's secret
connections on the ground in Lebanon. It was revealed that he traveled
to Lebanon (secretly) after having been invited by a Al Harafi a
construction company owner in The Gambia. Why did President Jammeh
expel Tarik Musa a Lebanese Christian and then befriended Al Harafi
together with the names mentioned on the daily observer? Muslims in The
Gambia will not allow this man use our land for such bursting
hypocrisy. He knows why and we do also know that Jammeh knows why he
using Alharafi for everything that generates money in The Gambia.
Jammeh can clear the air before 'Bulfaaleh' does it for him.

PANORAMA with 'Bulfaaleh'-July 22nd Celebrations, fear, treachery, chicanery President Gbagbo comes in with more arms? Friday, July 21, 2006 (441 reads)
President Laurent Gbagbo a friend of President Jammeh an enemy of The Gambia. President
Laurent Gbagbo and President Yaya Jammeh's friendship has been under
the radar for quite a while now. There were and there are still mouths
in Banjul,Dakar,Bissau and Cape Verde whispering about this friendship.
Dakar has congratulated President Jammeh after the AU but are they
really glad about Gbagbo's visit to Banjul? After all the same line of
friendship exists between Gbagbo and Dakar's main opposition leader Mr
Amat Dansoho according to my source. This very friendship between
Gbagbo and Dansoho made Dakar's Intelligence put him under constant
surveillance. He is still under surveillance according to my source. Of
course Senegal and Bissau will not sit and watch President Jammeh
invite Gbagbo without being monitored. Agents from these close
neighbours are already in Banjul verifying what Gbagbo and Jammeh are
upto. Gbagbo is not in the good books of many Presidents withing
ECOWAS. He is a mercenary who uses rebels to achieve his goals. It is
widely believed that Gbagbo's own mercenaries are plying the Abidjan/
Banjul route these days.

Horomsi:Neneh Macdowl Gaye says IEC'S Ndoneh Njie help Jammeh to steal the elections-Chey!!! FJC's Nigerian Chief Boy friend talk!!!
Horomsi:Ha,ha, ha, ha, ha,......Horomsi, what's going on? Did I hear
Neneh Macdowl player Gaye saying that IEC'S Ndoneh Njie was fired for
doing a dirty job for Jammeh? Neneh said Ndoneh helped Jammeh to rig
the polls and it was time to let him go since the public questioned his
credibility. Chey Dumuadouna!!! What is the point of having elections
when Neneh Macdowl Gaye admitted that Njie was registering non Gambians
to vote? Hear Neneh in this statement"The general public isn't happy,
the opposition isn't happy so as a responsible leader you need to act
to restore confidence in your country," Where was Neneh when Ndoneh the
opposition complained about the voting rigging that took place in The
Gambian in 1996? Where was Neneh when the NADD supporters were
terrorized in Upper Saloum which led to the defeat of NRP'S Hamat Bah.
What public confidence is dirty lady talking about?

THE EVE OF THE PRESIDENTIAL
ELECTION IN THE GAMBIA
By Katib Ifriqia
In
the wake of preparation for the forthcoming Presidential election
slated for September 2006, Jammeh government continues to pose more
threat to the future of the Democracy of The Gambia. This is precisely
evident in the frequent unconstitutional activities of Yahya Jammeh. He
refused to conduct thorough investigation and bring to book the killers
of Deyda Hydara. The NIA arrested and intimidated the two editors of
the newly established Daily express Mr. Abdulgafar Olandimeji and Sam
Obi, the detention of Chief Ebrima Manneeh at the NIA.

The coming of Yaya Jammeh into power and the erosion of human rights violations in our country Friday, July 21, 2006 (242 reads)
By:-Abdoukarim Sanneh,UK Yaya
Jammeh has criminalized all sectors of Gambian society. The regime has
induced a state of fear into our people. There is massive erosion of
human rights in our country since the unfortunate events of July 1994
and most of the crimes are with impunity. The daily life of our people
is on the edge. Gambia will continue to be a sad story among the
wretched countries in Black Africa as long as we have a butcher
dragging our people into the time of butcher bird, such as the illegal
arrests and detentions without trials, torture, murder etc. The
criminal regime has destroyed the independence of the judiciary with
army of his mercenary judges and lawyers who have no professional
ethics.
