Private Eye With Gambiasara-Gambians Should Reject Jammeh And His APRC Friday! Tuesday, September 19, 2006 (409 reads)
Gentlemen, be informed that you be busy canvassing for votes. Tell the electorate what the APRC manifesto entails!
The
Gambia is at a cross roads. Within 72 hours, we will be going to the
pools to elect a new leader who will be mandated by the citizenry to
direct the affairs of the Republic of the Gambia . In short, a new
Chief Executive Officer commonly called The President of the Republic.
This person will occupy Number 1 Marina Parade known as the State House
or Government House. Who will get the nod of the Gambian people? What
is the country’s future especially the Gambian young people? What do we
want as a nation, how do we change the status quo, is what we should be
pondering now and beyond. This should be a cause for concern for all
right thinking Gambians.During
the 12 years of the A (F) PRC administration under the leadership of
Chairman turned President Yaya Jammeh, lot of water have passed under
the bridge.

Breaking News:Two Army Trucks Armed To The Teeth Surrounds UDP'S Dembo By-Force's Bakua House! Tuesday, September 19, 2006 (647 reads)
Breaking News:Two Army Trucks Armed To The Teeth Surrounds UDP'S Dembo By-Force's Bakua House!
Bojang
Accuses The Military of Politics Of Terror-As He Urges Them To Return
To Barracks In The Interest Of Free And Fair Elections...
By A Staff Writer
Panic and anxiety gripped the family of the former Bakau MP Dembo
Bojang alias Dembo By-force when two military trucks armed to the teeth
surrounded his Bakau house yesterday. Mr.Bojang who had to return home
upon seeing the armed soldiers urged his family to remain focus and
and not to panic for anything. The soldiers who never explained their
mission were seen seated in the said trucks while looking very wild.
Their presence in the area followed a UDP/NRP meeting held in Serre-Kunda
yesterday where speakers upon speakers demanded for regime change in
the impoverished West African country. The opposition youths and their
party leaders said the Jammeh government brought economic and political
hardship in the country. They believed that unless a regime change was
effected there cannot be any meaningful development in the country. It
is not clear if the state is trying to silence Dembo By-force with the
deployment of armed soldiers around his house. In an interview with the
BBC Network Africa yesterday, Dembo maintains that there cannot be free
and fair elections unless the military returns to barracks. Bajang
lamented about the high presence of armed soldiers around his house.
"My gate was packed with soldiers. I found two army vehicles fully
armed near my gate. I went back and told my family to be calmed. My
family were so scared. Anywhere you go you will see gun men. The voter
population are very afraid." Bojang told the BBC.

Breaking News:Kemesseng Jammeh closely monitored by the NIA/Police!!! Tuesday, September 19, 2006 (472 reads)
By A Staff Writer
A
team of intelligence officers mainly from the police and the NIA are
closely watching the movements of the Jarra West MP Kemesseng Jammeh,
following a secret order from the Independent Electoral Commission for
the politician to be watched since he failed to join NADD in their
campaign trail, sources revealed today. Jammeh was elected under a NADD
ticket, but sources hinted that the politician has not been seen in
NADD campaign trail since the start of the political campaign. It is
gathered that the state and the IEC are linking him with the Opposition
UDP and as such are planning to effect his arrest and revocation of his
MP seat should he be spotted addressing UDP rallies. Kemesseng has been
playing a low profile since the opposition split. Our sources intimated
that the state still believes that Kemesseng was campaign for the
opposition UDP secretly and as such had dispatched a team of
intelligence officers to monitor movements of the Jarra MP. While
Kemesseng is not aware of the said secret surveillance mounted against
him, our source hinted the politician should watch his back these days,
as there is a conspiracy theory reached between the state and the IEC to
declare his seat null and void if seen taking part in UDP rallies now and
after the elections.

Into The Country-While Hinting About Late Night Secret Registrations... By Our Own Roving Reporter Casamance
Voter Ousman Sanneh and his Wife Alimatou Gibba Told The Freedom
Newspaper Reporter That They Were Ready To Vote Come Election Day!!!
With
Barely few days to Gambia's Presidential Elections, thousands of cross
border voters mainly from the Southern Province of Casamance are
currently being hosted at the Gambia College, The Gambia High School,
Bakau Primary School, Bakoteh Community Centre, The President Award
Scheme Hostel, Brufut School, Brikama School and many private homes in
the tiny West African country, the Freedom Newspaper can
authoritatively reveal. Our source who met these non Gambian voters
said the number of non Gambian voters could be close to 50,000. These
Casamance voters are treated by the Jammeh government as fleeing "flood
victims" from the troubled region of Casamance. In a bid to accommodate
these large number of foreign voters said our source the government had
with immediate effect ordered all schools across the country closed
until after the nationwide Presidential elections. Usually, Gambia's
schools academic year starts in September, but this time around the
government for some explained reasons had decided to shut down the
entire school system. Sources hinted that such a move was calculated to
accommodate the cross border voters. The Freedom Newspaper
after receiving the said news tip off assigned its Reporter to visit
the said schools across the Greater Banjul Area where he met the said
Casamance voters. Our reporter who visited the Bakoteh School and the
President Award Scheme Hostel said most of the Casamance voters were
ready to vote in this week's elections as they displayed their voters
cards to him. One of the voters who identified himself as Ousman Sanneh
said they were brought into the country by a government truck over
night to come and vote.

Reporters Without

Press release
18 September 2006
ERITREA
What were you doing on 18
September 2001?
Eritrea cut itself off from the world five years ago today. While
the world's attention was still totally absorbed by the 9/11 attacks
in New York and Washington of the previous week, President Issaias
Afeworki shut down Eritrea's privately-owned press on 18 September
2001. The round-ups began five days later. Hundreds of government
opponents are still in prison. At least 13 journalists are still being
held somewhere in the country's detention centres. Reporters Without
Borders calls on African newspapers to publish articles this week
about what is one of Africa's biggest political tragedies of the
last 50 years.

Breaking News:Is President Jammeh Upset With Jaliba Kuyateh? Monday, September 18, 2006 (858 reads)
Breaking News:Is President Jammeh Upset With Jaliba Kuyateh?
Foreign
Ministry Official Sources Quoted Minister Kabo Bajo Of Having Told
Jaliba That Jammeh Was Very, Very Upset and Mad With Him! Jaliba Denies Knowledge Of Having Any Beef With Jammeh-As He is Currently In The UK
Freedom Newspaper Senior International Correspondent Investigates The Story And Now Reports..... By Our Senior International Correspondent Following
his US musical tour, Gambia's Koro star Jaliba Kuyateh is reported to
have been contemplating not to return to the Gambia at this hour, as
sources hinted that Kuyateh was told by Gambia's Foreign Affairs
Minister Lamin Kaba Bajo that the President was very upset about his
absence in the country during the election period. Jaliba who was
hosted in Seattle during his stay was said to have telephoned the
minister to ascertain reports that he was likely to be persecuted if he
returns to the country, as President Jammeh repeatedly lamented about
Jaliba's failure to grace his third term Presidential campaign. Our
source hinted that Jaliba was also in contact with the brother of the
Foreign Affairs minister based in the US before calling Lamin Kaba Bajo
on the said subject. Jailba Kuyateh who is currently in the UK with his
wife was also reportedly blamed in some APRC quarters for not
witnessing the just concluded African Union Summit, which we also
gathered do not go down well with the Gambian leader. But sources quoted Jaliba as saying that
he composed a song marking the AU Summit prior to his departure from
Banjul. Jaliba Kuyateh over the years had been a strong fan of the APRC
with his famous song called "Jammeh Jilanka." The Kora star is reported
to have been isolated by the government following one of his releases
in which he mentioned that the world is three days while paying tribute
to the former deposed Gambian President Jawara. The said song which also featured incumbent
President Jammeh according to sources also angered Jammeh as he
repeatedly complained about it. According to sources Lamin
Kaba Bajo was severing when he spoke to Jaliba on the phone, while
emphasizing that the President was very mad with Jaliba Kuyateh. A
source who witnessed the said conversation told the Freedom Newspaper
that Kaba told the kora star that he ought to have stayed in the
country until the elections were concluded and not leave at a time when
he was most needed by the state. Both Kaba Bajo and Jaliba reside in
Brikama. Jaliba was born and raised in Naimina Dankunku.

Halifa Sexed it up-Opinion Sunday, September 17, 2006 (496 reads)
By SS Daffeh [UK]
Mr Editor,
Please allow me to register my dismay at the published dodgy dossier
presented by NADD’s flag bearer, Halifa Sallah, in respect of the Kombo East
by-election. Here are some of the things he stated:
The first participation of NADD in an election in Kombo East was in May 14th
by-election. Hence there is no basis of measuring whether it gaining or
loosing popularity in Kombo East. The APRC however had 5009 votes in 1997
compared to 3665 in 2006. The UDP had 3636 votes in 1997 compared to 2814 in
2006. Needless to say, all these parties utilized maximum effort and
resources to win the election. Each needs to consult their supporters and
electorates to find out what the reason for the outcome.
