Calls to contain Yahya Jammeh gains momentum
By Kemo Cham
Sometimes it appears as though our memories fail to serve us well. We either seem to overlook the significance of history or we are guilty of deliberately ignore it altogether. But it so happens that catastrophes that have resulted from bad governance have never happened spontaneously; we have overtly watched them built up over the years and … boom! It all happened. When, for instance, the rogue Revolutionary United Front (RUF) rebel leader, Foday Sanko, sauntered his way to destroying his country Sierra Leone, he baffled the whole world with words like ‘my country’, ‘nationalism’, ‘freedom’, ‘peace’, ‘development’, lock, stock and barrel. Even when his roguish forces showed initial signs of going out of their way, engaging in extrajudicial killing, the demented chief of Africa’s most notorious insurgents clung on to his continued denial of the obvious.

In the Case of Mr. Femi Peters of UDP Vs The State
Prosecution Witness Say Rally Permit Denial Was Never Handed To The UDP!!!!
Witness Cornered By Lawyer Darboe
Today, November 17th 2009, the state continued its case against Femi Peters and the United Democratic Party (UDP) regarding the political rally held several weeks ago. This case follows the granting of a defense motion challenging among other things the initial attempt by the state to try the case in Banjul. The case was heard in Kanifing by magistrate IKpala after the first magistrate assigned the case rescued himself. The proceedings started with a prosecution witness who testified that upon learning about the UDP meeting, he went to the venue and spoke to one Kebba Fatty and demanded to see the police permit authorizing the party to hold the rally including the use of a public address system.

Gambia:Editorial: Under Whose Mandate Is Halifa Sallah Serving As NADD Leader?? Tuesday, November 17, 2009 (1458 reads)
Editorial: Under Whose Mandate Is Halifa Sallah Serving As NADD Leader??
….Without Transitional Government, There Cannot Be NADD
We Investigate NADD’s Legitimacy As A Political Pary!!
The formation of Gambia’s opposition National Alliance For Democracy, and Development (NADD), was greeted with high expectations. Many at the time believed that this was the party, which was going to unseat Jammeh from power, but it turns out the reverse. NADD died at its infancy stage, as power struggle gripped the opposition coalition. Lack of political sincerity, principles, and greed were blamed for the collapse of the party. Despite the withdrawal of Gambia’s biggest opposition group, the United Democratic Party (UDP), the opposition PPP, NDAM, and its longtime political rival PDOIS, formed an alliance. NADD’S performance in that elections were below expectations, despite the euphoria that greeted its formation.

Chongan Threatens To Lock Any Soldier, Who Wants To Join The Army Instead Of The Police-EX- Military Police Boss Reveals
As Chogan Stairs Tribal Debate
By Kejau Touray, Scotland
Chongan et al,
With your kind permission, please accept my wee observation in this volatile and deeply depressing topic of discussion. I think tribalism in The Gambia is an open secret and should not been written by Chongan of all people, as much as I respect his stance against Jammeh since 1994. Reading from Hamjata's long interesting persuasion as well as my own wee knowledge of Gambian politics, it seems we are still in pre -independence period of politics between UP and PPP. Wollof and others against the Mandinkas and the Fullas. Looking closer still, the eras and situations are different, as we do not have a UP anymore, unless you want to equate PDOIS to UP, the two are arguably different in constituent and constitution, and we have the benefit of experiencing the aftermath of the PPP's rule, which was rule by 'Mandinkas' even though the majority of executives were Banjulian Wollofs: Permanent secretaries, Managing Directors were and interesting still are, AFPRC government, mostly 'Banjul Wollofs' and so was the armed forces, which was seriously underrepresented of all Gambians, full of Banjul Wollof, as all senior officers were either Wollofs or from Banjul, who may all be engaged in tribalism and nepotisms, instead of encouraging all to achieve aristocracy, as it is supposed to be, regardless of ethnic or family connections.

The other side of a common dictator Thursday, November 12, 2009 (1742 reads)
The other side of a common dictator
By Kemo Cham
The other day I was discussing with a friend of mine, our discussion centered on the many missed opportunities that abound for citizens of the Senegambia region, which remains far out of reach as a result of the mostly abrasive relationship between the two countries. Or is it the countries or merely the leaderships? Like my friend who has a dual Gambian and Senegalese citizenship put it: ‘‘the common people are barely aware of their (the leaders) trivial personal problems, yet the implications are felt by us.’’
