CORRUPTION IN GAMBIAN HIGH SEAS: THE PART PLYAYED BY THE GAMBINA ARMY. Part I
Corruption is synonymous to dirty tricks. It has been with us since time immemorial. However there is no excuse for us to embrace it as bed fellows just as Yahya Jammeh and his cronies have done. Generations have come and gone but the word has stayed with us. We have seen the systematic growth of Mr. Korruption in the Gambian soil.

A Message To Muhammed Jawara Freedom Associate Editor Wednesday, December 13, 2006 (415 reads)
Mr. Mbye, could you pass the following message to Muhammed Jawara your Associate Editor.
By Town Crier
Dear Brother in the Struggle,
Thanks for the immense job you are doing and I have no doubt you will continue to do. Communicatin they say is the disemination of information from a sender to a receiver. The communication is termed complete when the receiver receives the message and understands what it means.
May I point out an fobservation I saw in your last article. It was full of high sounding words which of course leave many readers like me not actually getting the message. I am not sure of your background but if I am right, you to be a reporter for Observer. I suggest that you replace high sounding words with simple words so your readers can get the message.
Editor Jawara's reaction:Thanks fella for that observation. I entirely agree with you in terms of the objective of communication. Certainly, there is no need to write if one's readers cannot comprehend. I used about 7 big words, and i have to admit that i did that on purpose. If you go back to my previous writings, i rarely use big terms.
The important thing here though is that i agree with your assesment and i would use that to improve my articles in the future. Thanks a bunch for your observation.
I must add that i enjoy your contributions as well.
Muhammed A Jawara

There are lies, damn lies, being spewed about The Man, a great leader for The Gambia, Africa and the Third World. But let me explain first how the lies began and how I met one of those original liars at a time when The Man was just an unknown soldier.

Breaking News:About 40 NIA Agents Fired-Sacked Officers React! Monday, December 11, 2006 (1301 reads)
About 40 officers of Gambia's feared National Intelligence Agency are without job at this hour, as President Yahya Jammeh fired officers suspected of being disloyal to his administration. Some of the fired officers who spoke to this paper claimed that the Agency was being "Jollanised" these days and their sacking was politically motivated. According to the aggrieved officers, the President was favouring his own tribe men and women at the Agency by appointing them into key positions in that discredited intelligence office. Some of those sacked came mainly from the Central River, Western and Upper River Divisions of the Gambia. The protesting officers who wished to remain anonymous hinted that the President fired agents suspected of having family relationship with the murdered intelligence chief Daba Marena and other agency officials currently standing trial on coup related charges. They claimed that they were victims of state sponsored mass cleansing of NIA staffers from a majority tribe. A good number of the intelligence officers sacked served numerous years prior to their unceremonious dismissal.

THE LEGACY OF FORMER CHILEAN DICTATOR GENERAL PINOCHET: Monday, December 11, 2006 (382 reads)
THE LEGACY OF FORMER CHILEAN DICTATOR GENERAL PINOCHET: WAS HE A NATIONAL HERO OR AN EMBODIMENT OF INHUMANITY?
BINNEH S MINTEH
STAFF WRITER.
The night time fires that lit the skies of the Chilean capital Santiago after the death of the one time controversial and powerful dictator General Augosto Pinochet brought his legacy to a heated debate. General Pinochet as one could recall, ruled the South American nation after a bloody coup that brought him to power. Overthrowing the regime of his predecessor President Allende in the early 1970’s (just 18 days after sworn in as the head of the Chilean army), Pinochet used the anti-communist umbrella to brutally torture and murder thousands of Chilean citizens. What does one therefore make of his legacy? Was he a national hero or the embodiment of inhumanity? These are some of the questions lingering in many hearts and minds today.

Reports reaching this paper at this hour say police commissioner Demba Sowe has been fired. Mr.Sowe's sacking has to do with his recent comments linking the jailed APRC bigwig Aziz Tamba with the President. Up to the time of going to press, Demba Sowe's sacking has not been reversed. He was quoted by the Daily Observer as having said that "the police investigation revealed that the accused person - apparently close to the President - "took advantage of his political position and engaged in things that were incompatible with his portfolio. He was arrested for what he was illegally doing". Demba went as far saying that "Mr Tamba used the name of the President to take goods, such as fuel and animals from people. According to him, this conduct "was not liked by the President".
